Sharp with good ability to blur background

Jun 14, 2017

Purchased principally for close-up food photography in the field rather than the studio. Speed of lens makes working in low light far easier, and the background blur is pleasing, if not quite the fine bokeh of my old Leicas.

Stellar Image Quality, a great focal length for walk around!

May 23, 2017

I've used the first version for years... just bought this new one only because it's all black and looks nicer on my black E-M5. I've never had banding issues, and the focusing issues have never been a problem for me. I love this lens and this focal length. I've tried the Oly 17/1.8 and the 25/1.8, but I ended up selling them because I like this lens better. Four stars only due to the sub-par focusing, compared to newer lenses. Image-wise, Five Stars all the way!

Great size, but noisy and very slow AF

May 16, 2017

I thought the second version of this lens had been improved, I use it with Olympus bodies and find the AF very noisy and slow, maybe it works better on a Panasonic body? I haven't used it enough to comment on the images themselves, but I love it's compact size and 1.7 wide aperture as it works very well in low light.

Slow AF.... I mean really slow

May 8, 2017

Image quality is great. Autofocus performance is horribly slow. Makes the kit 12-32mm lens seem like its rocket powered. My 35-100 is also faster to focus... at least 3x faster. Given its price it should be faster and with no OIS and autofocus that gets slower with lower light, it is only a daytime lens for me. I like its image quality, I will use it, I am not impressed with it.

Good product for day shoots, not so much by night though

May 5, 2017

Although this LUMIX G 20mm f/1.7 II ASPH lens has proven to be most useful during day-shoots, it still lacks the amazing results my partner and I have obtained by night from using the Olympus 45 mm f/1.8 one. Although focal length is obviously different for both lenses, and even though each of these two lenses serve contrasting cinematic purposes, we feel the Olympus M.ZUIKO Digital 17mm f/1.8 lens might have performed even better --considering in our humble opinion, the excellent performance we have gathered from the 45 mm one.

This lens lives on my Lumix GX8 camera on a spider holster for quick easy shots. Most times I forget the camera is on my belt. For the cost the lens is very sharp!

The lens I use the most after the 7-14

Mar 28, 2017

When I travel with my MFT set this lens is always with me. I't my normal lens close enough to a 35mm angle, good price, very sharp and focuses in the almost dark on my GX8. The sensor VR of the GX8 let me use this lens with very long exposures in dark churches etc. Fantastic purchasing

Excellent portrait and carry around lens.

Mar 7, 2017

I like this lens as a carry around when shooting indoors when I am already close to objects. It also makes for a great portrait lens. I do not get any distortion unless I am shooting at an angle extremely up close. Focus is sharp and the images are clear, even in low light.

An excellent choice for street photography

Feb 23, 2017

This is a very good, fast, prime lens for walking around and general street photography. This lens very closely matches how I see the World around me. The angle of view is a little wide, but, for most purposes, it delivers a very normal perspective. Small, light, and inconspicuous this lens is a great option when you want to capture scenes around you without being too obvious. Resolution is very good wide open as well as when stopped down. Very good for the price.

Feb 1, 2017

Incredible image quality, very crisp, and very compact. I put this on my Lumix g7, and I love it. The ONLY downside (which it could be a big one for filmmakers) is the noise from the focus motor. I don't use autofocus when I am working on video projects, but if you are, it may be a problem.

Excellent value, this will be a lens that follows me everywhere due to to it's versatility and low profile. Great for street photography, indoor shots/low light, portraits & lifestyle/detail shots. Beautiful bokeh & transitions.

Good Value for money

This is a replacement for the series I lens i had that unfortunately got fungus growing inside of it (I live in a tropical environment and lenses have a short life span for me). That I purchased it again should say all. Great low light performance for indoor shots.

Very Sharp lens! compact. pretty fast focus

Sep 7, 2016

This lens is really sharp. I did some astro photography with it and it was sharper than my L series lenses on my 6D. Some have complained about slow focus and on my Olympus EPL-5 it was REALLY slow, but on my GX8, it was pretty fast! NOt as fast as the new 12-60, but still about as fast as the Canon lenses to me anyway! I'm not sure focus speed is a big issue on this since its not really a lens most would use for action photography or birds in fl... Show More

Nice!

Jun 16, 2016

Compact lens with smooth manual focus, and surprisingly fast AF with the E-M5! Olympus lens is a tiny bit faster, but this Panasonic is sharp! This lens is quite descent wide open, but great from f4-f8, and 8 is at its best.

Incredible Lens

Jun 6, 2016

Bought this in conjunction with the Lumix GX7 camera body and am thrilled with it. In addition to being a great lens, I enjoyed how the format changed the way I photographed in general. You have to get up much closer to your subject, and actually interact with it. It's par for the course given the lens type, but I particularly enjoyed it and I think that it made me a better photographer because ofit.

Just used this lens for 1080 video as a stationary angle in a low light church on a GH4 body. Capture of detail and sharpness much better than the main video camera used (Panasonic AGAC90). No focus drifting. Exposure at 1/60 3.5 ISO 2400 and still great sharpness (corner to corner) and shadow detail without much graininess. Extremely Sharp

May 18, 2016

I purchased this lens for use with a recent purchase of the black magic micro cinema camera. I expected the lens to be sharp, just as all of the reviews say, but what I didn't expect was this incredible focus ring. It's not the distance throw of a true Cine lens, but a far enough throw that you can attach a gear to the ring, and a focus control on your rods, and obtain cinematic focus points. Compact, light, fast, sharp prime

May 2, 2016

I use this lens as my default, throw in the bag when space is of the utter importance. For impromptu indoor pics, this is the way to go. The 1.7 aperture focuses in super low light. Bokeh is nice, and images are sharp. 20mm on micro 4/3 is a very useful length. Not too wide, but not too cropped either.

I am new to the m43 world. I have shot canon for years from film to digital with my main camera and lens combo a 5d3 and 35L. Got a g7 for a smaller family camera and for the video capabilities. This is a perfect camera. Super sharp. Quick. Good color. Oh and super small. If you have a m43 camera, this is a must own lens.
