Phenomenal, with some trade offs.
The clarity of even the 1080 on this camera is so great compared to the canon codec. 96fps is so handy... I probably overuse that feature. But I do wish I had really recognized the low light weakness of this camera before purchasing. There is a lot of noise and banding in shadows. ISO performance isn't impressive. The metabones speedbooster has helped a lot by making more light available, but I still find myself desiring better low light performa... Show More

Impressive! unless you say Low Light
Based on video shooting only: The GH4 has amazing image quality at 4K, lots of detail, very very sharp. Lots of Pros, that camera is almost perfect for the price. Buy it, but before that, read the following. The biggest downside is obviously the Low Light capability. Man, at ISO 800, it's ok, but at 1600, your footage is barely usable. You don't want to go at iso 1600. This is not a low light camera. The Sony a7s low light performance makes me re... Show More

Excellent video
Second body for me they are so good. Using for video as another prime angle, it turns out a surprisingly good product. For all that goes onto Youtube and indie movies this camera can't be beat when paired with a good external sound recorder. Easy enough to use when setting focus and white balance and the blessed thing doesn't have a time limit on video length. Decent quality even past ISO1600. I had doubts about MFT format but the sensor and lens... Show More

Great for small independent filmmakers
I've been using the GH4 for a little while now, and it has been able to produce the images I want without too much effort. With so many options, with function buttons and such, I can be prepared for shoots beforehand. A lot of people complain about the GH4's lowlight capabilities, but most of them have been unfair comparisons or situations. If you know how to light a set or wherever you're shooting well enough, and you have it at the right ISO, p... Show More

Good camera for the money
I had previously used the GH2, but after 5 years of use I was beginning to experience problems with it that weren't worth the cost of repair. I bought the GH4 because it was $300 off and had a $150 gift card thrown in. The GH5 will be released in a few months and should be worth the wait for anyone seriously interested in video, which I'm not. I use the GH primarily as a carry around camera for street photography and travel, and I didn't want to ... Show More

Wasn't sure but now couldn't be happier
I bought this camera after I did some research. I was wanting to put the Sony A7ii on my S1000 but after reseaching I decided to go with the GH4 soley to do with the gimbal and that it had been out for a while. I had seen reviews about this camera and knew that it a lot good about it but it wasn't till I took some photos with it and was totally blown away. Both video and images are fantastic. Good
Great little hybrid camera for filmmakers. Sharp Hd and 4k footages and slow motions. Sold my Gh3 and got this camera. Love the new feature like zebra and focus peaking, cine gamma. This is the best Dslm 4k camera in its pruce point. Let me write its downside: Micro 4/3 sensor is performing weaki in lowlight, i really hope panasonic change the next Gh camera with Super35 sensor. Surely we can pay extra cash for better sensor. Dynamic range is als... Show More

HUGE Upgrade
I've had this camera for about a week now and I still can't believe how much better this is than the Canon I've been using for a few years now. Obviously the 4K is great (by this time we've all seen the footage) but it's all the other features that make this camera worth it. Coming from Canon I've gotten used to shooting slowmo at 60fps in 720 so the fact that this goes up to 96fps in 1080 and actully looks good is fantastic. Also having zebras, ... Show More

Pretty good camera with lots of functionality
I purchased this camera because it's slightly lighter than my DSLR cameras. I'm getting older and when I'm out bushwacking, I can't quite deal with the weight of the DSLR bodies and ALL that GLASS! This was a bit pricey, but the resulting images are way better than using a bridge camera, which is light for the backpack, but limited on the image quality it delivers. I 've had this camera for a few months now, and the quality of the images and the ... Show More

So glad I made this move
This is my first move from APS-C and full frame DSLRs. I did it primarily to have a more compact system that doesn't weigh me down, is less intimidating to subjects (especially in public / candid situations) and to benefit from using 4K source material in my video work. The build is great, the feature list is absolutely massive, and the quality I'm getting is tremendous. 16MP is plenty adequate (stepping down from 21MP without much issue) and, wh... Show More

Awesome 4K Photo Mode!
Watch quick tutorials online or read the manual. There is a lot this camera can do that it hard at first to find and understand how it actually works. There are people out there to help! I really like the 4k Photo Mode. With just a few seconds of 4k footage with a macro lens. I can have almost professional quality 8 megapixel stills on the camera itself in real time. It takes a while to go through all the frames but it's worth it especially out i... Show More

using the GH4 for video w/ zoom lens
I have recently been using the GH4 for video, but I missed the power zoom feature of ENG style camcorders. Recently I tried the 145-175mm power zoom lens from Panasonic. While there is control of the zoom speed, it is not cinematic at all. I cannot ease-in to a slow zoom or ease-out at the end. I have recently obtained a Libec ZC-3DV remote zoom controller. It worked, but again not for smooth low speed zooming. There is some speed control for the... Show More

The top 5 of 2014
Amazing product that goes beyond any other camera from this price point. Very compact for small productions, micro sensor size compatible with almost any brand and kind of lens in the market. Battery is life excellent For one man band or a small video production on a tight budget is perfect. Great sensor but it still needs light, beyond 1600 ISO you get too much noise , with a basic 2 or 3 light kit you will be able to get the job done in most of... Show More

Casi perfecta
Great little video camera
Great video out of this thing, and can be adapted to all my Nikon glass with the Speedbooster fixing one of its downside (tiny sensor) its only other major issue is it has a micro HDMI port!!! Love this camera, the build and video quality are wonderful! I do not think I will ever use it for still photography over my FX Nikons but I did look at some Panasonic lenses and they seem really over priced (same cost as full frame lenses but making a MUCH... I love this camera.
I got this to use on trips and as a day-to-day camera. While the photos are not quite as nice as those from my Canon 6D and the video not as quite nice as that from my Blackmagic Production Cinema 4k, I would say this camera is much more portable, easier to use, and almost as good. I really like the two dials which makes it easy to use manual mode. The peaking works (surprised me). The ISO and other buttons are well placed allowing for quick chan... Show More

Amazing camera, amazing price!
After shooting with Canon DSLRs for years, I decided to take my first step in the 4K transition with the Gh4. I couldn't be happier. Not only do I get 4K resolution in camera, I get all the camcorder functionality I kissed goodbye when started using DSLRs. Headphone jack, level meters, focus peaking, high frame rate at 1080p... the list goes on. I'm new to the micro four thirds world, but I'm really liking it. Panasonic lenses are small and sharp... Great Camera!!!
This my third GH4. I primarily shoot classical music concerts and operas/musicals with locked off cameras, so having a camera that stops recording at 29 mins 59 seconds, is not an option for me. Lighting is not normally an issue, so f/4.0 at 640 ISO covers most of my theater shooting needs. For the money, there is not a better camera on the market. I have paired my cameras with the Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8; Panasonic 35-100mm f/2.8, and the Olympu... Show More

AWESOME! Worthy successor to the GH3!
Appart from a few minor issues carried over from the GH3, namely the bad placement of the Playback button (out of reach for single hand access) and Headphone Jack (in the way of tilting LCD screen), the GH4 improves on practically every front! This is hands down the best Photo camera for video IMHO! I bought the GH3 because the sales rep told me it's the only photo camera he'd consider for video, and the one he himself uses. A Very Capable Camera
This is my second GH4, needing two matching cameras for video interview shoots. Adding the V-Log software opens the realm of 12-stop capture, and the Atomos Ninja Assassin brought up 4K to 4:2:2 10bit. I bought the interface unit which also provides SDI, full-size HDMI and a better audio section with XLR inputs, too. Just Wow
I don't normally write reviews, but this camera is worth my time here. Image quality, OMG. Video quality, OMG. I had a glitch with the Panasonic lens that I bought for this camera. It was jittery with O.I.S. on or off - which sucked for video. I flashed the lens B.I.O.S. and now it is as smooth as silk. I have been researching 4K video for more than 6 months. This is a great upward evolution of the GH camera series particularly for video work. Nearly all of the criticisms of the GH3 have been addressed in this iteration: manual focus peaking display, configurable zebra exposure guide and wireless remote control that actually works and is useful.
