It's AWESOME !!!

Dec 31, 2019

Now my cinema skills are not of the caliber of a Lucas or Howard but the S1H was real easy to adapt to and achieve really good results right out of the box.

What doesn't it do considering the class it's in?

Dec 31, 2019

I bought this Sept 2019 tired of waiting for the A7siii. I do Docs, TV, Real Estate Still Shoots and Video. Having 422 10-Bit in 4K, Anamorphic monitoring, 6K, two card slots completely configurable, L Mount glass, long battery life plus AC charging while in use, weather resistance. low light capability better that my A7sii (which I have used since Oct 2015) on and on... Panasonic threw the gauntlet down and brought in many Varicam features. Couldn't be happier.

Almost perfect

Dec 16, 2019

The IBIS is so good, 4k 422 10bjt is also good! V-log! flip screen! Its so close to a perfect hybrid camera in the market. However you cant use pixel zoom while recording is a bit annoying. Plus AF is not reliable as Sony or Canon cameras. Btw nothing wrong about made in China!! BTW Nothing wrong about m

The Best Camera I've Ever Owned

Dec 16, 2019

Why anyone would give this camera a bad rating I have no idea. I see some people complaining about the auto focus, if you spend $4,000 on a camera body then possibly another $1,000 on a lens, not to mention accessories and still use auto settings on your camera such as auto focus, you're obviously a mindless human being that has money to blow on stuff that's way overkill for your needs. Nobody buys this camera expecting to press one button and sh... Show More

I made the switch. Bye Canon. Hi Panasonic.

Dec 9, 2019

I'm a wedding filmmaker and tired of Canon holding back its video features on the 5D4 and EOS-R. The features that are most important to me are 4K @ 60fps, IBIS, log profile, peaking, waveforms. The only way I would get this on Canon is spending money I don't have on the 1DX2 or C200 -- both of which don't have IBIS. I had to purchase the Sigma MC-21 to adapt all my EF lens collection and everything works seamlessly (i.e. autofocus, aperature, et... Show More

Complete All in One Package

Dec 9, 2019

I don't normally write reviews, but I feel like the S1H is a camera that deserves attention and praise. This is the first mirrorless camera that I've ever purchased that I felt it could take on any task and behaves very similarly to a cinema camera. My main work is documentary work where I am required to film everything very fast without the time to switch lenses throughout the day. The S1H in combination with a standard zoom lens (24-70 f/2.8 in... Show More

The S1H is an amazing camera for its size and cost

Dec 6, 2019

I have been using a GH5 since it first came out, and was considering a GH5S for low light situations. Then the S1H came out. After watching and reading many reviews, I decided that the combination of the S1H and GH5 would give me the best for two different shooting situations, and also would provide footage in the same color/gamma space for multi-cam work. So far I have not been disappointed.

Cant believe how advanced it is in features and color, looks amazing and accurate even using Auto WB....I believe the hype now!

Video quality is outstanding

Dec 2, 2019

Excellent color and quality. Great at high ISO. Love all the frame rate and resolution options. One big annoyance: The shutter button is very sensitive and I find I often stop video recording if I tap the button by mistake. Should have option to disable shutter button for video.

Camera is Awesome!

Nov 27, 2019

We've been filming with the GH5 for the past several years. We purchased this camera and we are extremely happy! Combined with Canon glass using the Sigma MC-21, the quality looks like a $10K+ camera. Panasonic is leading the mirrorless industry and has stolen the crown from Sony. FYI, we never use AF in any of our productions, only MF.

This is a wonderful camera.

Nov 26, 2019

This camera is really good.It gives users nearly 18 shooting modes, which can combine different bit rates, storage forms, coding, and so on.A variety of color modes, including V-log, which is very popular on GH5.There are also HLG and Like 709, which is a very important feature that makes it easy for me to match the colors of other cameras. The focusing system is a little weak, but it's enough to shoot. The dual SDXC design provides sufficient storage space.

The phenomenon that the image

Nov 19, 2019

There is a phenomenon where the time code does not become a slave and the image turns blue. It is recorded as it is. Panasonic does not respond to the current situation. SyncOne timecode generator can't receive. Please verify.

GREAT COMPANION TO THE VARICAM LT , EVA-1 AND ARRI ALEXA

Nov 12, 2019

As an owner of a Varicam LT, EVA-1 and GH5 I have to say I'm currently Loving the S1H. I have to give a few disclaimers: I am not using Auto focus at ALL. The only Native Lens I have and use on this camera is the Lumix S 24-70mm 2.8 I'm exclusively using PL mount of Leica M or R lenses on this for video. So I don't know what Auto focus on the camera is like nor do I particularly care. Now with that being said, I bought the camera for the ana... Show More

beefy camera

Nov 9, 2019

Had this camera for a weekend with the 24-105 f/4 lens. Initial impressions after working with the camera and grading it in post are that I really like the camera. V Log really sings with this camera. I never felt like I enjoyed working with V Log L on the GH5s, but grading the V Log from the 400Mb All-I codec is awesome. In production, the camera dual IS is amazing. Even with just the cameras IBIS, it is a pretty smooth image. What impressed ... Show More

Unreliable AF, made in China

Nov 1, 2019

I bought this camera specifically for video, so that's what I will be reviewing. First, the auto focus simply cannot be relied upon. It is not uncommon for the camera to go out of focus and stay that way, like it's given up trying to find focus. The auto focus improves when you go to f5.6 or higher from f4, but I suspect this is merely the result of increasing the depth of field. I found no benefit to the so called hack of decreasing the shutter ... Show More

Manual Focusing problematic

Oct 26, 2019

I couldn't agree more with William's review here. Why Panasonic doesn't employ better manual focusing capabilities for video in their S1 lineup, or in their GH series, is beside me. Punch-in manual focus while recording is critical for video work. I'm a professional documentary filmmaker and this feature is paramount with the work I do as focus peaking can't be relied upon. Canon and Sony cameras do this, why not Panasonic?? A real deal breaker for me on an otherwise brilliant camera. Please listen Panasonic and add this feature in a future firmware update!!

Beautiful Image but bugs...

Oct 23, 2019

First of all I LOVE this camera. The image is incredible and I have owned several RED cameras, Blackmagic Ursa Mini Pro's, Canon C200's you name it. The image is up there with the best so let me get to the things that hurt this camera. 1. Ghosting and too much Temporial NR in vlog on internal recording (Panasonic has told me they are working on this) 2. AF isn't good. It just isn't 3. 4k 60 in vlog and other vlog formats will not work in MACOS C... Show More

Worst AF & MF on the market, plus weird recording

Oct 20, 2019

Everything on the S1 and S1H is great---but the ability to get in and maintain focus. First, the adjustment correction for eyesight on the EVF was off. Being 72 and preferring to shoot with no glasses I always run the adjustment to the diopter's limit: 4. After that no problem. Well, for some reason the S1 and S1H 4 fall short of other cameras--I know. I checked, and the adjustment is still fine on my other cameras--my eyesight has not changed. ... Show More

Cinema Monster

As an indie filmmaker producing low and no-budget films for the festival circuit for over 15 years now, I've spent a lot of time and money trying to kit out a budget indie filmmaking rig that could give me something approaching genuinely professional results. After putting an S1H though its paces for several weeks now, I believe this is to be at last a solved problem. The images this camera produces are simply stellar, even thrilling: low light ... Great initial test impressions (more video use to come)

Oct 5, 2019

First disclaimer: while as an amateur I make documentary films I'm NOT a pro. Your milage may vary :-) I did initial tests of some photos and some video. I performed the tests with LUMIX 24-105mm f/4 S-SERIES L-MOUNT LENS, LUMIX 70-200mm f/4 S-SERIES L-MOUNT PRO LENS and a manual Contax Yashica 85mm f/1.4 lens used with an adapter. I used all lenses at 85mm so I could compare it easier. I did it at f/1.4, 2.0, 2.8 for CY and f/4, 5.6 and 8 for ... Show More
