Different people buy cameras for different reasons. My reason for this camera is to have something lighter and more compact than my full frame DSLR with a 24-70 stabilized lens when I go on travel and for for day to day carry about. At the same time, I was NOT interested in very much compromise on image quality, quality of the EVF and general sharpness. Micro 4/3 was definitely the answer because of the lens ecosystem, but it could have been an e... Show More

Outstanding

Jul 6, 2018

I replaced my OM-D E-M5 (which died after 100K+ shutter actuations) with the E-M1 Mark II. I went with the EM-1 for two reasons. First, the upgrade in image capture (larger 20MP sensor, higher ISO low-light performance, improved image stabilization, crisper image quality, phase detect focus allowing fast continuous focus). The E-M1 MII has exceeded my expectations across the board. The images are gorgeous. The auto focus is tack sharp and ve... Show More

Don't be fooled, this is professional gear!

Jul 4, 2018

One of the things that used to drive me crazy as a photographer was the occurrence of dust/ oil/ dirt on the camera sensor which olympus took care of with their sensor cleaning system. Was it enough to get me to switch over from my Nikon gear? Not really because Nikon still had the edge on Olympus with a decent autofocus system that I enjoyed using. Olympus just couldn't complete. Also, I loved the full frame image quality and my Nikkor lenses. ... Show More

Game changer for sports & documentary photography!

I wanted to wait 6 months before writing this review. After shooting professionally for over a decade, OM-D E-M1 Mark II might be the best all-round camera I've ever shot with, and I don't say that lightly. Even in the harshest, most extreme climates, my E-M1 Mark II never skips a beat. The "weatherproof / dustproof / freezeproof" claims aren't marketing hype. much to complex for the quality of pictures

Jun 21, 2018

Though still acquiring experience with camera, quality of pictures obtained with old Canon 6D and 400 prime with 1.4 extender much better than with Olympus / 300 mm both hand held. Disappointed in part due to very complex use otherwise you use is like an expensive Cybershot.

The E-M1.2 is an outstanding example of design and modern technology. The auto WB is improved over previous models as is the autofocus speed. Though many of the features - image stacking, high resolution shots, etc., can be found on the E-M5.2 they seem to be improved on the newer model. Autofocus is quite fast and seemingly accurate, which brings me to the letdown : The image quality is a definite step backwards for Olympus. In the 1.5 year... Show More

I have been a professional commercial photographer for many years and have used a lot of cameras. I was looking for a lighter system to carry while traveling and hiking and the omd fits that bill. I purchased the pen f first and was fairly happy with it, so I got the omd with a grip and two pro zooms (12-40/2.8 and 40-150/2.8) to compliment the primes I have for the pen. Awesome camera

Jun 5, 2018

I made the switch from Canon full frame and L lenses and have no regrets. I'm a photo enthusiast and I do not make a living with a camera. That being said I do most of my photography while on the move and in the woods and carrying the Canon with multiple L lenses was just a pain. I now have focal lenths from 12-300 (24-600 on the Canon) with fast aperatures than can go with me everywhere and no drop-off in image quality. Maybe not the system for everyone but certainly a great option for me!

Like any Pro camera, the glass is of the utmost importance. This particular camera competes with the big DSLRs. It's unbelievably fast in all areas. Focus is amazingly fast. the burst rate is extremely fast. Now for the important parts. With good Glass the pictures are amazingly sharp with excellent color and contrast. Awful purple reds

May 18, 2018

Having owned the original E-M1 I was hoping for a major upgrade. And got it. The camera moved forward in many ways, but while doing so, picked up a major problem. When outdoors, reds are rendered as purple or magenta. Point this camera at a fire engine red car, and the shots come out purple. I have shown sample images taken at the same time with Canon, an original EM-1, andEM-5-II and they all have what could be considered "normal" reds, but th... Show More

This is my second Mark II...I had the E-M1 before, but this is a much more robust camera than that version. Some people have complained about the price, but if you compare it to a DSLR with comparable features, not only is the Mark 11 lighter and smaller, it is considerably cheaper, as well. It would be impossible to describe all the features of this camera--go to websites that offer in-depth reviews. In addition to being packed with features, th... Show More

The improved version

May 9, 2018

Oh, where to start? The sensor now has 25% more pixels. Good for adding a bit more resolution to the images. Now, add to this the high res option. This is a nifty little pixel shifting trick that can produce an eighty megapixel image. The in camera stabilization is just short of insane. Olympus claims a 5.5 stop difference. Seems to work. It is not hard to handhold a two or three second exposure if precautions are taken. Like getting into a good ... Show More

I have worked with Canon cameras my entire working career and still like them fine. But after nearly 40 years of carrying heavy packs and having to leave long heavy lenses behind due to weight restrictions on air travel and simple logistics, I bought into the Olympus system first with an E-M1, then the E-M5II and now the E-M1II. The Mark II is a worthwhile upgrade in most areas over the Mark I but both are excellent cameras! I tested the Mark II... Show More

Tremendous upgrade from the M1 Mk I

Mar 19, 2018

I've loved my E-M! Mark I for the past two years and captured some of my best photographs ever. However the Mk II is in a totally different league. I won't review it, others have covered this is great detail. I will say however that my first few hundred images are even better (low light, low noise, sharpness, creativity) than my best efforts with the Mk I. I am so happy I finally gave in and bought this! You won't regret it.

My first Olympus the EM-5 was an adventure, one I went into mostly because I was interested in a mirrorless camera and second because I didn't want to go on dragging my Nikon 300 as a backup to my Nikon 700. It wasn't a great experiment. The EM-5 was slow, awkward to handle and not terribly versatile. The E-M1 Mark II is terrific, and not just by comparison to the EM-5. I will eventually buy new lenses, but for now I'll use my current lenses with the adaptor. So far I'm very pleased. The autofocus is superior to my old E-3 and the pictures appear sharper with more tonal range. I tried a few videos, which look good, but hand-holding videos is a challenge if there is any delay in the viewfinder, however slight.

The EM-1 Mark II is a significant upgrade over it's predecessor. In shooting my sons' little league basketball games the continuous auto-focus is very, very good. It is significantly better at following my little guys than the old Mark I. Also the high ISO performance seems to be considerably better than the Mark I version. I really like the improved custom settings on the mode dial. The mark II also has some cool new tricks like the pro-capture and hi-resolution modes. It also retains the superior handling and usability of the Mark I. All in all, a fantastic camera, and I love it!
