Zooms well for video
As opposed to the Panasonic 12-35 f/2.8, this lens appears to be stepless--that is, it does not adjust exposure (in manual mode) when zooming, as the Panasonic does. This is great for doing little pop zooms while shooting video. Alas, the Panasonic has stabilization--this lens does not... And of course, as the other reviews say, it's a beautiful lens otherwise.

Well made, Solid and Sharp
This lens is on my camera more than any other because it is fast and sharp over a very useful zoom range. Also, since I often take pictures in the rain, its splash-proof construction, along with my splash-proof EM-1 means I can work in the rain without any plastic bags covering my equipment. I find the manual focus to be very useful in low light. The autofocus is silent and fast when there is enough light. I do use a .9 neutral density filter dur... Show More

Tiny and sharp
This is my walk around lens on an EM-1, taking the place of a former 24-70 on a D610 and D700. The lens is tiny next to a 24-70 and just as sharp. Wonderful colors and detail in a tiny package. The only problem is Oly not including hoods with most of their lenses...???

Terrific
What more can be said about this lens? The reviews have been so great that I rented it for a recent vacation. After a single day I knew I was going to go home, sell a few old things, and buy it. It is all the things you'd want: sharp, great color & contrast, fast.It feels good on the EM-1 though I wish it was a little bit lighter. I really like the push-pull focus ring for quick MF. I could go out & buy all the slightly faster fix length lens in this range & end up pay more. But I'm a zoom guy and this range is how I see things. Love it.

Pro quality Lens
Perfect for one lens carry situations or travel. Fast at 2.8 and great images out of the box. EM10 users will definitely want the added grip.

Excellent Lens, Canon L Quality
This is the best m4/3 lens I've used. I've owned several Canon L lens (canon 24-105L, 70-200 F4L, 35-350mm L, 28-80mm 2.8-4 L) and this is just as sharp (maybe even sharper than them) The autofocus is quick. I love the quick manual focus feature. I wish all the m/4/3 lens could do this. I've very impress with the lens. Build quality is excellent and it feels like a quality pro lens. For a Micro 4/3 lens it's a little heavy but when comparing it to a canon L it's light.

Great Lens
The focal length (24 - 80 equivalent) is perfect for portrait shoots. This is a quality lens, very well made with smooth zoom.

Pro quality zoom
Excellent handling wide to mild telephoto zoom. Constant f2.8 aperture allows shallower depth of field and low light imaging. Easily switches between auto and manual focus. A bit larger and heavier than idea as a walk around lens.

High Quality M43 Lens
Sharp from 2.8 on all through the range. It's everything a 2.8 pro lens is supposed to be - comparable to my old reliable Nikon 17-55 in IQ.

A must for M43
I've been using an Olympus OMS-E5 for about 2 years now with a pretty good set of primes and the kit zoom. But I found I needed a little more room at the wide end and something faster than the 14-42mm,3.5-5.6 kit zoom offered. I spent a fair amount of time and energy looking at the options (getting 12mm and 25mm primes, looking at the Panasonic offerings, etc.) as I was a little put off by the weight and price of this lens. After trying the 25mm ... Show More

Great indoor lens!
I bougth this lens in a bundle with the M10. Together with the additional grip it handles quite well and I get the best camera kit for the price. Youe can focus from very short distance and I took great pictures in a low light theater performance. I just love it.

Awesome.
This lens is great. The build quality is really nice - All metal with weather sealing. Nice milled knurls on the zoom and focus ring. Its a weighty treat. Its very small for what it is - a 24-80mm equivalent f/2.8 zoom lens. Sharpness is hilariously good. Wide open at all focal lengths, the sharpness is incredible, what I would expect from a stopped down Canikon equivalent. Sharpness at 40mm is not quite as good as other focal lengths, but still ... Bye Nikon - We had some laughs
This glass, along with my E-M1, E-M5, and fleet of M43 primes has reached fruition. I just finished selling all my Nikon pro gear on @. This leaves me hanging a little waiting for the 40-150 F2.8 to come out later this year, but I figured if I waited for that to happen my Nikon gear would be worth less as others jump ship like I just did. The future is here. This lens on a OM-D E-M1 (with grip) makes for a very bright future indeed. But do grab a... Show More

An increbile lens
The best ever lens I owned. After seeing that indescribable image quality; I'm not to purchase any mediocre lens in future.I tend to use Topaz Labs Detail to sharpen up my images. I shot an indoor event with this lens.Small interiors - colored walls; so using a flash was not an option (major color bleeding). I had to use f2.8 for all my hand-held shots. Excellent results (also thanks to 5-axis IS). But when I applied Topaz Details; even out of focus areas vividly came to life. I don't get such superb effect with any other lens.

Sets the New Standard for M4/3 Glass
I've been shooting M4/3 for a while now and have a pretty decent kit. I like to get a new lens about once a year and this year I splurged on the 12-40 Pro lens. I'm so glad I did. I have almost never used my kit lenses because of the slow speed and barrel distortion. I shoot some of the primes like the 25 PL abut often miss having a bit of zoom. This lens really covers the range well. It's bright and tack sharp. It is so well built - it's heavy f... Show More

No Fooling. Buy this lens
If you shoot with a ILC M4/3 camera this is the best normal zoom available at this time. You'll see a brighter image, faster focusing in poor light and it will extend the flash range 50% to 100% compared to f/4 & f/5.6 lenses. Its unmatched optically and the build is pro level. Its as sharp as most primes.

Best lens for the Olympus OM-D E-M10!!
I needed a lens for indoor and out door closeups, family, and scenery. The lens had to be fast and sharp. The M. Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO exceeded all my expectations.

Great Lens!
Just beginning to use this lens and can tell already it will become my go to lens, a real work horse. Some say it is heavy. Well maybe, but I think that is a plus, It really feels great on my OMD E-M5, It feels serious, looks serious and shoots serious!

Beautiful universal lens
I am using the lens with my OMD EM1. It fits perfect to the camera: starting with f2.8, water and dust proved and good image quality. Of course it is much more heavy and large than a standard lens, but the quality also is much better. It would be a 5***** with a little more wide angle area - just for landscape images. But there will be in near future a new wide angle PRO zoom available.

Lenses just cannot get any better
I have owned several cameras, Canons and Nikons with pro lenses in this range but this lens is better than any lens I have ever had in this range on any of my 50+ different cameras. Razor sharp from edge to edge even wide open at every focal length, stopping it down just gives a bit more depth of field, but no sense to stop it down more than f/5.6 after which the diffraction limitation kicks in. FANTASTIC LENS.
