Lens hood a bit perplexing

Jan 15, 2020

I'm very happy with the picture quality and general operation of this lens, but I'm a little put off by the lens hood. On the plus side I like the clever design that allows the hood to slide back onto the lens barrel when not in use. Very convenient. On the minus side, the hood makes it difficult to dismount circular polarizer and variable neutral-density filters, as the hood prevents easy access to the base of the filter. The outer ring is eas... Show More

Love this Lens

Dec 15, 2019

I love this lens. It is lightweight and results are sharp photos with my Lumix G9. I plan on taking this on all my travels instead of my heavy and oversized 70-200 for my Canon 6D.

Wow, great lens!

Bought this for close-up work with skittish insects using my Pen-F. Love the quality construction and smoothness of operation. The photos are blowing me away, too. Much better than I expected. Am glad I spent the money on this lens.

Good purchase

Jun 6, 2019

About a year we use 3 lenses with a given focal length. Considering the focal length, price and relative aperture - without alternatives - 5+ There are almost no questions to the lenses, considering my price range is 4+, it is reliable at temperature differences and at high humidity. The design of the blend requires very, very gentle handling - without any modifications by the manufacturer, you may encounter the fact that it will simply crumble into spare parts when you try to remove / put it on. Without a blend, it is sensitive to spurious glare. In general - solid four!

Excellent!

I bought this as a gift for my husband. He had been complaining that he couldnt get some action shots or birds flying under low light conditions with his 109-400 lens. While he does lose some reach with this lens, the 2.8 makes all the difference when it comes to getting the shot in low light.

Outstanding lens!

May 15, 2019

This lens does it all. Super sharp, great bokeh, fast, well built, you name it. Love the clutch that allows you to slip between electronic focus and manual focus. If you feel the shot requires pulling your own focus, you are not out of luck. I primarily use the lens for video shoots (GH5). It really lets me stay intimate with subjects that are at a distance. I would recommend this lens to any micro four-thirds shooter.

Great lens

This is a sturdy well built lens. It is a little on the heavy side for a small four thirds camera but images are clear and operation intuitive and easy. I highly recommend this product.

This is great lens for my GH5 and GH5s body! So compact compared to the other brands range! downting is just Gh5 is not good in lighting when in reception for wedding. should be good if subject is in light

A very solid, consistent lens.

Mar 20, 2019

Im using this lens on a gh5 and despite not owning it for too long I have to say that Im very pleased with the images so far. Ive heard/read complaints about its size and weight but the fact is a quality lens at 2.8 in this focal length is never going to be small and light. And if you come from a DSLR background with long lenses, this lens is a joy to use and carry around. The manual clutch is a nice feature, the images have been sharp and cons... Show More

Its big and amazing

Feb 7, 2019

For a micro 4/3s lens, this is a big one. If size is your main concern then the panasonic 35-100 would probably serve you better. Even still, compared to a full frame 70-200/2.8, this is still fairly compact. Occasionally Ill clip it onto my belt using a peak deisgn capture clip with my gh5 and I dont mind it. However, the manual clutch was sold me on this lens and so glad it did. I use it for photo and video and Im extremely happy with my res... Show More

Great lens

Jan 6, 2019

This lens has been on my E-M5 mark II the last few weeks since ive gotten it. Quiet, quick focus and sharp wide open. Nice bokeh as well when taking portrait shots. A bit front heavy for the E-M5 Mark II but expected it. Unique lens hood as it extends and retracts without detaching it unlike other makes. Overall, great lens.

A great lens with one shortcoming

Nov 5, 2018

This Pro lens is everything you would expect it to be. Thats why its mind boggling to me that Olympus didnt provide it with an Arca-Swiss compatible collar like it does on the 300mm. Every pro shooter I know uses an Arca-Swiss system and this omission forces us to buy a third-party adapter to make the lens function with our tripods.

An extremely sharp, fast to focus zoom lens

Oct 17, 2018

I recently switched to the Olympus system. This is the lens I chose to replace my 70-200mm zoom from my Canon system. I get a longer zoom range, a fast constant f2,8 aperture and a longer zoom range. The lens performs excellently. The AF performance is quick. Recommended.

Probably my Fav lens?

Jul 19, 2018

I looked long and hard at this lens and the Pany 35-100mm and for my needs, I figured this would be the better of the 2. So far, its exceeded my expectations and I love it! The only little draw back, its just tall enough it cant sit in my camera backpack right so it takes up a lot more room then I wish. But given most people shoot with their full frame lens, I really can't complain too much here. It's the only real advantage I see having Pan... Show More

Solid Lens for GH5

Jun 20, 2018

I purchased this to use for my Panasonic GH5 and I can't say enough good things about this lens. It's very solid yet incredibly light! The zoom range is incredible, it's tack sharp at all focal lengths and all apertures. You can get just inside two feet of a subject, which is unheard of at the focal length equivalent of 300mm! It works as a Macro lens for those wedding ring shots! The bokeh is incredibly soft and buttery.

Great Optics, Big for M43 but Small Relative to FF

Apr 9, 2018

I'm using this lens with a Panasonic GX8. I'm primarily a still photographer. I've used Nikons for 50 years, but use the GX8 and M43 because of the weight, even though there is some reduction in image quality (not due to this lens but to the M43 format), especially at low light or higher ISOs (really, anything above base ISO). I also have the Olympus MC14 1.4x converter. Optically, the 40-150 lens is excellent. It is quite sharp at 2.8 but signi... Show More

Long reach second only to one other lens

Apr 8, 2018

Great optics, long reach, smaller size, fast deployment. Versatile for sports, headshots, wildlife, portraits. Expandable with telecomverters. But at the end of the day, the Olympus 75mm prime has consistently gotten better reviews. This is NOT a discreet lens.

Sharp optics, solid build, great price

Mar 24, 2018

I bought this lens for when 300mm (600mm) is too much for shooting birds and wildlife. The first thing I noticed when testing right out of the box was the fast focus and lens sharpness at f/2.8. Wow! I'm new to Olympus and have been very pleasantly surprised by the quality of their products. This is a great lens at a price that matches!

Not as sharp as reviewed by others

Jan 31, 2018

I bought this for my GH4 based on reviews. The lens had a nice feel to it and seemed solid. When I attached it to the camera I noticed immediately that it did not seat solidly. It had noticeable play (slippage). My 12-40mm Zuiko lens fits nicely on the camera with only a touch of play. So, I had to decide if I could live with it. Well, after taking some photos, especially long focal length it was clear this lens will not work for me. It's soft at... Show More
