Solid performer for $ and under

Jun 30, 2014

I usually go off of three things as far rating a headphone, and these things are all important to most people. Which start with Build quality(durability to aesthetics), comfort, and Sound quality(from how it is advertised to sound to how well it hits it's mark). The Shure 440 monitoring headphone in my opinion is an excellent headphone for sub $ and I can honestly say it is on par with and or better than the Audio Technica ATH-M50 monitoring head... Comfortable, affordable, good sound

Jan 27, 2011

The SRH440 are a great set of headphones because of their marriage between sound and price. While they are fairly cheap in relation to many headphones of this size and list of things promised, they deliver a seriously impressive level of both sound and comfort. I especially like this headphones when walking outside in cooler weather, as the ear coverings are both comfortable enough for prolonged listening, and warm enough to keep my ears warm whi... Great cans

Aug 4, 2011

Recently bought these headphones as a gift. Did a fair bit of research and test before committing my money on these SRH440. Other headphones looked at were the Sennheiser HD215 where I found it selling at almost 1/2 price in a shop, the HD280Pro, HD445, and the HD25 and its variants. What was really impressive was the build quality of these cans. Yes, I know they have little cables that come out and could get caught and snap off if you are really... Show More

Very Satisfied

Jan 13, 2010

If The ratings allowed, I would give this about 4.7 out of 5 stars. I did a lot of research before selecting these headphones and did so because of stellar reviews on the internet and the Shure reputation. If you like bass, do not buy these. They have a flat response, like a monitor headphone should. They do not artificially amplify any part of the spectrum. I use these for voice and for classical music, so they are perfect for me. They are very ... Show More

Stunning sound, stunning headache.

Nov 15, 2011

I've been in media for 20 years, and have owned a lot of headphones for the studio and on-air booth. I also have reasonably high-end equipment at home, and even drive my office headphones with a separate DAC and amp. So, I'm picky. That said, here's my take on the Shure 440s. First, after a reasonable break-in period, these sound fantastic. Best sounding inexpensive cans I've owned. Period. They give my reference phones at home a good run for the... Show More

Great headphones!

Sep 27, 2013

I use these to help me listen out for bad mistakes in mixes, when in home studios where the acoustic treatment is sub-par. Sound: The sound is way beyond it's price. Very flat and true sounding, great for mixing stuff. Perhaps for listening to music in general its a little bit light on the bass, but that's how I like it as I use it mainly for studio use. Comfort: I tend to use these for hours on end. When you first put them on they feel... Show More

Not an overall good pair of headphones.

Jul 19, 2014

Let me start off with this review with what I find positive. They are very sturdy, Flimsy cables and plastic components are otherwise a nightmare on headphones but these feel like a pair that would last me a while. They are insanely sound proof, won't leak nor pick up noise outside the housing. Great for live recording. Now to what's negative. I expected a flat true sound which it delivers but it simply lacks clarity in my opinion (or what y... Show More

Shure SRH440 studio phones

Jan 20, 2014

Bought these as a compliment to my other pair of reference head phones, just to have alternates when going "mixing deaf". I had read that they are supposed to be a bit weak in the low end, wich suited me just fine for my purposes, and indeed they were. Not lacking in bass, but lacking the rumbliness that many mid price head phones got. Perfect for being my "second pair of ears" when mixing. Sadly it uses the coiled cable that get's stuck in every... Show More

Like hearing for the first time.

Jul 27, 2012

As a student of audio production, I am always looking for tools that will be extremely useful to me for a long time. I was in need of a good pair of editing headphones and a friend suggested these. I have tried many lower quality headphones that are still fairly decent. These however, blew my mind. The bass response was far more than I expected. Everything sounded very realistic and created a fantastic sound field. These are definitely a good cho... Show More

Excellent for drummers

Dec 28, 2018

For the last 4 years, I've been using the infamous Vic firth SIH-1 headphones for practicing drums, and chose these headphones hoping for a significantly improved drumming experience. As I hoped, these headphones are excellent for drummers; they are comfortable to wear for extended period of time (I typically use mine 2 hours at a time with no discomfort), the sound quality is fantastic - great clarity, the sound isolation is better than expected... After A Little Work, Best At Price Point

Dec 27, 2013

Great sound! After listening through iPod, smart phone, and turntable, the sound does differ between each device, the worst being the iPod. However, they still sound great. At $ bucks these are literally a no-brainer. But beware, this price does have its drawbacks. The comfort of these cans is subpar. After only 30 minutes my skull felt like it was being crushed. But all hope is not lost. B&H stocks Shure SRH940 replacement ear cushions. These ar... Show More

Shure headphone review

May 4, 2015

This is my second pair of these. First pair is still going although cosmetically a bit of a mess and the 3.5mm pin is prone to bending. Love the flat frequency response and sound of these headphones and for the price I think they are great. On my first pair the plastic sort of fake leather lining on the bar that goes over your head started to degenerate after a couple of years and I would get flecks of black plasticky stuff stuck in my hair after... Great value for money

Jan 30, 2016

I wanted to purchase some headphones that not only sound good but also have a reasonable price. I came across these headphones on this site and they had a huge amount of great reviews and and the price seemed reasonable. I have been very happy with them since I purchased them. The sound quality is really even and has great clarity all across the board from punchy lows to clear highs. Compared to other more expensive headphones I have used th... Show More

Great sounding and really comfortable!

May 14, 2013

I bought these Shure headphones to replace my aging Sennheisers that I've had for many years. I was astonished by the difference! I've always regarded wearing headphones as a necessary evil while recording, but these Shure SRH440s are a pleasure to wear. They're not at all muffled sounding, with crisp highs and tight, not boomy, lows. They're also very comfortable to wear for prolonged periods, which is important in a studio, and there isn't too ... Great clear sound

Jan 24, 2016

I've had these headphones for 5 years now and I still really enjoy using them. I find they have a really clear uncoloured sound which is great for my purposes. Pro: The fact that the wire is removable and replaceable is really an excellent design feature as the wire is usually the first thing to break. Although mine is still going strong it's nice to know I have the option to replace it later if needs be. Con: The only negative I ha... Show More

A great set for the money

Feb 6, 2011

I rarely find that I need the best of the best. So, up front I will say these are not the BEST headphones, but for often $200 LESS than a better pair I'd have to say I'm quite pleased.Overall sound quality is great across the frequencies with only the very lows and very highs lacking in comparison to others I've tried. I will mostly be using these as a monitor for in the field video production. I think they'll be wonderful for this. But if you're looking for studio headphones to be worn all day I think the quality and comfort would convince me to get something else.

My first closed headphones

Dec 28, 2013

First time I could not wear these headphones longer as 1,5 hours, because I had feeling, that my head is always under pressure. My musician buddy told me, that that is ok for closed headphones. Sound is very good too. You can normally make recordings and mixing with these headphones. But, if I whoud know about Audio Technica ATH-M40 X, I whoud prefer better Audio Technica. Prise is the same, but they are more comfortable and the sound is more realistical(at least I like it better as by Shure)

Nice sound for the $

Oct 28, 2010

It was between these and Sennheiser HD280, and Sony MDR-V6's. I listened them all in the store and noticed very little difference in sound quality-- as would be expected sense they are all $100 closed back studio headphones. For my application (video production-- sometimes wearing them for 8 hours at a time) comfort was key. The Shure 440s gave good crisp highs and enough low end for my taste (bass freaks look else where) in a comfortable design and affordable price.

Excellent headphones for a home studio

Aug 28, 2018

Great, well-balanced sound which for the price is surely hard to beat. The cable seems to be sturdy and is locked in to avoid getting pulled out while moving around. Like most headphones, you need to take them off once in a while to give your ears/head a break, but the comfort is generally very good. Changing the length of the head band could perhaps be a bit smoother but nothing to complain about really given how often you need to do that. Fully recommendable!

This is my Studio Headphone

Apr 29, 2015

i have many different Headphones, but thisone is my favorite for mixing and mastering. I like the natural and clear sound, what you hear is what you play, nothing boosted or cutoff by any builtin Filters or similar. Perfect fit and isolation, also while longer sessions. The only thing i dont like is the coiled cable, but there is a non coiled replacement cable, unfortunately you have to buy it seperate. High quality, natual sounding Headphone for a good price

Amazing sound, very comfortable

Oct 26, 2010

These Shures feel like much more expensive headphones. The materials are top notch. I bought them as an alternative to the ubiquitous Sony pro studio monitors that all us video shooters wear. They cup my ears so perfectly that all I could hear was the camera output, even at a very noisy cheerleading championship. And, they fold. Folding is a bit of a pain as you have to unscrew the removable 1/8 cable...then again, if this cable goes I can replace it.

Very good headphones for the price

Jan 3, 2015

Very nice all-around-sound and nice fit. Comfort is something that was complained about in some comments before I bought these, so I ordered straight away the replacement ear pads for the more expensive 840, which are much more softer and more comfortable, and they fit perfectly also the 440's. I can recommend these if you want a good pair of headphones but don't need or don't have the money for über-high-end pair.

Great headphones

Jan 21, 2018

Overall great headphones. Nice detailed sound, no surprises when listening to wide range of music, not bass too heavy and their weight is not too heavy either so there's no pressure after few hours of use. Build quality is great although ear pads began to crack after few months so that's little bit of disappointment but ok, there's replacement to buy. All in all, very satisfied!

Best headphones at the price range

Dec 20, 2017

I've been using these for over a year now and all i have to say about it are good things ! The sound is clear , pretty bright while still handling the low-end very nicely (I'm a bassist) . The foam on top gets a little worn out but nothing out of the ordinary, and lastly , it isn't the best option for long-time hearing because the coushions could be a lot better on top.
