THE SPECS ARE SO GOOD, BUT THEN..
The price of this camera has radically come down since it's release and several firmware upgrades improved it a lot (though development has definitely stopped and this is as good as it will ever get). I have finally purchased it but what I am getting out of it is sheer misery. Equally I am yet to see ONE FOOTAGE coming out from other people's hands that doesn't look equally absolutely horrid.. the dynamic range is a mitigate ld disaster, highlig... Show More

A good all around camera!
Ive owned this camera for over two years and I am extremely satisfied with it. In that time Ive shot dozens of weddings, a documentary, youtube content, web commercials, and a variety of other events. It really is versatile and if you need something that allows for quick use, this camera is it. I also own mirrorless cameras and bridge cameras, but nothing compares to this for shooting live events. With all the buttons, switches its hard to miss a... Show More

I Love This Camera
Adapters allow so many different lenses. So many different uses. Menu system is so much better than Sony.

Absolutely Underestimated Camera!
I own an A7sii, and this Ls300 in side by side tests at night with my settings had LESS noise than the A7sii, I tried and sent many cameras back, but I'm keeping this one! I put it at 400 to 600 iso with a sigma 18-35 1.8 lens, 4K 150 mpbs, 4.2.2 rec709 color profile, and could not believe how clean the footage is under simple street-lit nighttime city shooting. again it beat out the A7sii. Can Not go wrong especially for the price, very nice color as well!

Update from previous review
I am reviewing this great camera again as I had to get a second one it is so good! It has become my favorite camera because of its unique ability to use just about any lens known to man - MFT, EF, even tiny C mount - by dialing in the sensor scanning - JVC's "scan-mapping." Also, the J-log gamma setting is an excellent cinema style look with a lot of dynamic range. Though the other settings give a lot of choice with varying degrees of gamma. I am... Show More

This is an affordable movie camera.
So, I have been using this for a few days and I love it. Everything that I loved about the JVC HM170 in terms of the menu and the knobs plus the AMAZING ND Filters, great sensor image quality and features. I bought the Metabones adapter (not the speedbooster) and there is a slightly less than 2x factor, it seems to me. So, my 50mm was more like an 85mm than 100mm, for example. But the zoom feature is incredible! I bought the Lexar Pro SDXC cards ... Show More

Really great picture for the price (with some caveats)
I currently work for a media company that is getting their video production strategy off the ground. I was tasked with purchasing gear that would be used for studio and field production for a cheaply as possible. 4K was a big requirement of mine. Since there would be a lot of solo shoots being able to scale the 4K down to have a wide and a close up in post was important (had I not wanted 4K I would have bought a c100). I also wanted it to have an... Show More

A contender for more than a gh5. This is theater quality
Maybe the best cinema camera out now, not because of the image quality, which is freaking awesome, but because of the price! I never experienced what the previous reviewer said about some traveling line going up and down the screen. Maybe he/she has a defective unit, but I've never experienced that and in haven't read anything similar from any other owners that posts their work on YouTube and Vimeo. Even as a verified buyer I think that person is... Show More

Maybe not a Prosumer camera
I've used this camera for a handful of projects, mostly human subjects, some tabletop, lots of chromakey. I've had a little trouble with some of the footage - both HD and 4K. One of the shoots involved food over a white background, and I discovered in post that there was a horrific crawling shadow, some kind of horizontal scan over 1/4 of the screen that pulsed slowly upward. It might have gone unnoticed if I didn't need to cut from one shot to a... Show More

Excellent and Often Underrated Camera
The LS300CHU is an excellent and often underrated camera. We have use it now for about a month in a number of demanding situations, including extreme low light, and it has outperformed most other cameras we have used (quite a few, actually). It is true that some parts feel a bit cheap, and that you get the impression that you need to be careful how you treat it, but we never plan to toss the camera around or pass it to each other like a football.... Great way to get into 4K at a great price!
I was in the market for an upgraded camera for our church, so I was looking for something versatile but not too expensive, and I wanted to get into 4K as well...so enter the JVC GY-LS300. At first I looked into similarly priced DSLR models such as the A7S i & ii, the C100 (though that's not 4k) and even looked at the sony fs700 (used on ebay), but ultimately I decided to go with this JVC. I haven't used JVC in a long time for cameras but I've bee... Show More

Excellent Camera and very versatile - highy recommend.
This 4K Camcorder is a very good choice (esp at the present selling prices) for anyone that needs a very flexible camera for low light and landscape or studio work - it's not very suitable for run and gun work due to the available lenses - yes I know it can be adapted to most lenses and accepts nearly any FTM lens plus Canon EF /S and EF SIGMA lenses plus others but the rub comes in when using any lenses other than FTM you have to use an adapter ... Slept on powerhouse
I've shot with the Sony FS5 and FS7. I must say that this camera compares very much to those more expensive tools. The feature set is very similar to the FS5 and the image quality is comparable to the FS7. The only negatives are the flimsy screen, which most will use a monitor anyway, the viewfinder, which is below standards, the plastic, yet sturdy body and the 8 bit 4:2:0 4K recording, but the FS5 also has this 8 bit limit. Let me say that you ... Show More

Best affordable 4K camera
I love this camera how it works and what it can do. It's an affordable, versatile 4K camera, good for filmmakers, maybe not for ENG. Even though some have complaints about its plastic look, a small view finder and a fragile LCD monitor. This is an minor issue as long as the camera is treated with professional care. The best thing about this camera is that you can use many different kinds of interchangeable lenses from 35mm to micro 4/3. The sound... Show More

Lots to love!
I've been working in TV, film and video production for over three decades and used JVC cameras in a TV studio back in the '80's. Since then, I've used a lot of different brands and formats and pretty much forgot about JVC. I was intrigued when I read the specs on the LS300 and was able to get my hands on one to play with for a day before I made the decision to buy. Is it the perfect camera? There's no such thing. But the LS300 fits my needs for p... Show More

Hmmmm...
I have mixed emotions about this camera. Shooting outdoor stuff on full-auto, the results are truly stunning. There is real depth and magic to the footage. However, don't try monitoring anything with the viewfinder or LCD... it's a complete joke (as is the included shotgun mic). Some serious corners have been cut to offer the big sensor in this price range. Even the switches don't give you any kind of confidence (my white balance toggle feels lik... Show More

A Diamond (in its own rough?)
A 4K S35 sensor, pro audio, log recording, slow motion, streaming, real ND filters, SDI, prime zoom, and the ability to adapt just about every lens on the planet with the MFT mount & variable sensor mapping, made this a no brainier for me (especially at this price point). Despite the following shortcomings... Although it doesn't deserve to be called poor or cheap, it's build quality doesn't compare to a Sony or Canon. It seems solid enough to me,... Show More

bargain
First impressions: The build quality of this camera is very poor, I would rate it 2 out of 10. If you buy one, plan on purchasing a EVF or monitor, because the LCD is barely adequate. Build quality aside, this camera is amazing-interchangeable 4/3 mount lenses, with the ability to adapt the camera to lenses capable of covering the super 35 mm sensor. 4K, built in ND filters, supplied shotgun mic and XLR sockets. Excellent optical quality. Selling for less than three thousand dollars. There isn't anything like it in this price range.

Excellent, versatile, and very affordable camera...
This is a really unique camera. The combination of an active Micro 4/3 mount, with a super 35 sensor opens up a lot of possibilities. The sensor itself seems very good - the images are extremely high res, and there is a lot of dynamic range (especially in J-log). I've been using the LS300 with a Metabones Speedbooster Ultra MFT, and a Canon 35 f2 IS (resulting in f1.4). When shooting HD, the Prime Zoom feature (also works on zoom lenses of course... Show More

I have been using the LS300 for nearly a year now (over 7 short docs and a dozen regional and national TV spots). At first I was skeptical, and covered myself with double system audio and a second camera, a BMD Pocket Camera. Since then I have been using it as an A camera, intercut with my two Pocket Cameras. I am very impressed with both the image, which Mert (below) denigrates as less than a Sony handicam, and the audio, which matches well with... Show More

Cheap Handy cam Quality
Tested the jvc ls-300 camera for 3 days. The body build is extremely cheap. monitor grainy. needs a external monitor 100%. view finder lets not even talk about it. menu has a old design and settings are in weird spots to access. Recording is terrible. i would say a sony 1080 handycam has way better footage. slow motion is ok. live coverage is ok. camera batteries are a third party brand.not accurate with minutes and highly unreliable.

Loving the camera so far. I have lenses from Panasonic and Olympus that I am using on it, which work great, using all the electronic functions that those lenses offer. Also using Nikon glass with a Metabones MFT to Nikon G Speedbooster. Everything is manual using the Nikon lenses, but they work well with the camera otherwise.
