Solid
Super solid camera! I have been using it with the 55 1.8 and every photo is just insane. Even uninteresting photos can become interesting with the detail and the rendering this combo delivers. Portraits are amazing and the camera renders skin tones beautifully. The only issue I have had is with shots of water. The ocean was very choppy when I went to shoot and the photos of the water look very busy, due to the sharpness. This could probably be fi... Show More

SHARP...I'm bankin' on it.
Just began using this with just-acquired Sony A7rii and hoping the lens's sharpness and the cameras hi-MP count will enable me to travel light...and do some creative cropping rather than schlepping a big zoom. So far so good...a couple of amazing photos with sharp sharp corners and edges viewed at 100%. Though I haven't made any very large prints yet, it looks like about 60 in the long dimension will be quite sharp. This is a serious lens...and, consistent with the smaller and lighter ethos of E-Mount and Sony's shrewd inventiveness...

Great Lens
I use the lens on the Sony A7RII; an awesome combination! It has great IQ and the only thing I can complain about is the price.

A very good lens to own
I have only owned this lens for a short time but thus far very pleased to have it. It's very light weight and the 55mm is a good overall lens for capturing most images. The separation for close objects wide open is very impressive. I'm looking forward to taking advantage of the speed of the lens in low light when the situation presents itself.

Best prime I ever owned
I bought the 55mm as a first primelens for my A7II, because of the perfect focal length. I used a 50mm before on APS-C, but the field is too narrow. This is the perfect focal length on FullFrame. The Zeiss/Sony lens is expensive, but is almost perfect in every way. Sharpness is amazing! The build quality feels very solid. It is quite heavy, but it could be the only lens you need on some days. I did notice some chromatic aberration in rare occasions.

LOVE this lens!
Extremely sharp... great for low light (especially with the A7s) Very good separation and great color. Generally good flare control. Minimal amount of distortion. Good for portraits, landscapes, architecture and capturing action. Autofocus is very fast. Quality construction. sleek design. great functionality. SOLID. Nice compact lens.

What is not to like with Zeiss and Sony?
Wonderful lens by all expert accounts. As an intermediate photographer this lens had to be in my camera bag. I love it.

Excellent lens
I am using this on my a7R and am very pleased. Extremely sharp, even when wide open. Very good separation of in-focus region to out-of-focus areas. Excellent colour rendition. Generally good flare control. There is a minimal amount of distortion. This lens is very good for portraits but works fine for landscapes and architecture also. Some purple fringing, especially for out-of-focus areas of high contrast like tree branches in the background. No... Show More

Super sharp
Very good lens I ever owned. I used to shoot Canon L series lenses. I would have to say this goes on my top list.

Amazingly sharp and versatile lens!
This lens is the perfect match for my Sony a7 Mark II. Its fast focus and low aperture capabilities make this lens extremely versatile, particularly for close subjects (street photography, etc). It is also easily interchangeable with my Sony a6000. The bokeh this lens creates is consistently smooth and buttery, drawing the eye toward the heart of my subject. I would highly recommend this lens to be part of every Sony photographer's top lens considerations!

Sharp and rich in colour.
I had to sit down after I spent the money, but boy am I ever glad I did. Sharp, sharp, SHARP! The colour and bokeh is so delicious. I never get a photo that I DON'T like with this lens. German optics are the bomb dot com, y'all.

Agree with This is the best
Used in Indoor and Outdoor Pro Shoots. Flash and No Flash. I have only had it about 2 months. I have never shot with a better lens and I have a good size Zeiss inventory. Studio has lots of Canon and Hikon.

Amazing Lens!
This lens is worth it's dollar. I'm using it on the Sony a6000 with the view to upgrade to the A7 series. This lens is fast, it's light and just right for portraits giving you plenty of bokeh. It's made of sturdy materials and feels expensive. This is a great addition to your lens selections.

Extraordinary sharpness
The truth this lens has an extraordinary sharpness. I recommend it, not off of my camera, it is excellent in low light.

Wise Purchase
This lens is my go-to lens for our indoor baby photography. The lens at f/1.8 produces a very good and smooth bokeh effect while showing nice sharpness on the primary subject. No more need for flash photography for most settings with my Sony a7.

My Everyday Lens
I love this lens. It is super sharp and colors come out very nice compared to the 50mm 1.4G Nikon I used to have. It is super light and easy to carry while mounted on my Sony a7ii. This is a must have lens for anyone with a Sony camera.

Well worth the expense!
I bought the Sony zoom lens that is packaged with the a7II camera. It's not close to the quality of the Zeiss lenses that are produced for Sony. The lens is solid and will no doubt last a lifetime. I traded in my Canon system to go for full-frame mirror-less. And my first Zeiss lens is just a start. I'm delighted!

Sheer awesomeness
My current camera is a NEX-6, eagerly awaiting the A7s II. I was very happy with the SEL50F18 for the longest time, even as I eyed this beauty. However, I was asked to photograph a night-time, indoor performance event, for which my camera would be completely insufficient. I decided to rent an A7s, knowing its low light capabilities. I already had the FE 70-200 G and a Rokinon 14mm T3.1 lens capable of covering the full frame sensor. However, I re... Show More

Fantastic IQ and Build quality.
I purchased this lens alongside the A7mk2 kit and couldn't be happier. At the moment it's probably the best lens I've owned thus far in terms of IQ and build quality. Brilliant color, sharp images and fast accurate focus is what this lens brings to the plate. If the focal length suits your needs I highly recommend this lens as part of your kit.

Great Prime Lens!
This lens is really sharp and gives you the great shallow depth of field shots you'd expect from the numbers. The autofocus is fast and the video looks great when attached to my A7 body.

Best Lens: Sharp, beautiful bokeh
If I can give it more than 5 stars, I would do so. I am more happy with this lens on my A7 than the 85mmF1.4G on Nikon D800 for both portrait, and general shooting. The Sigma 70mm is also pretty good for portrait, but not close to this baby (may be 70%) on A7. The FE55mmF1.8 is fast auto focus, produces nice contrast, SHARPness for protrait, and beautiful bokeh. This lens made me fall in love with Zeiss color. It has more than I can describe. I s... Show More
