Decent inexpensive macro
I have used this lens primarily for extreme closeups of fine art. It performs reasonably well. It's quite sharp in the center of the lens. The corners are a little soft. Best aperture is probably f8, maybe f11.

extremely satisfied
The lens came earlier than expected. It arrived in excellent condition and has surpassed my expectation. It allows my camera to produce some excellent photos. I definitely would recommend this site to anyone looking to purchase camera equipment.

My first macro lens and I like it!
Like others have said, the focusing is a tad hard to get used to but the image quality is phenomenal! I haven't used it a whole lot but so far, I'm a very happy customer

Excellent Performance
I used the 30mm Macro Lens within a few days of receiving it for more than 400 photos of archaeological artifacts. The lens was very satisfactory for both closeup and general photos under improvised conditions. A great addition to my NEX series camera.

A must have lens
Great lens to take when going out for drinks or a meal. Shoots portraits, food and drinks quite well. I recommend the minimum following Must Have lenses to compliment your Sony Nex. 1. SEL16F28 with a VCL-ECU1 2. SEL55210 3. SEL30M35 (this one) All my other lenses are great but are not Must Have

Nice lens for the money
The choices for the Sony NEX mount in macro lenses are limited right now, but since I wasn't satisfied with close-up filters, I decided to go with this one. I would have liked a longer lens, but decided that since I'm not usually shooting moving insects, etcetera, I could live with this one. I don't regret my decision at all. Wide macro
I use this lens both for macro photography and for photographing art. It is pretty sharp and reasonably rectilinear, with tolerable distortion. Everything I shoot and keep goes through post processing, so the fact that it is not excruciatingly sharp or perfectly rectilinear is not that big a deal. General Photography and closeup shots. This lens seems to have some trouble focusing on complex scenes and images. Seems to lack crispness but not bad given the cost.

Lens is great except that the Sony Alpha Nex-7 comes in various colors and it would be much appreciated if the lens would have been available to match the rest of the camera body and other lens purchased for the camera.

Nice and a must have
Many of us love the NEX cameras for supurb image quality and it super light weight - Not that I do not love my Nikon and Canon full size DSLR bodies and lenses - but the advantages if the light weight and size are to many to mention. Excellent for the price!
I was hesitant to purchase this lens. I felt that with an f/3.5 it would limit what me taking pictures. I finally decided to take the chance and I'm so glad that I did. The lens doesan excellent job accurately reproducing colors, and it's macro capability is incredible. Tests Look Great
I bought the lens to use for 'B Roll' footage in film production as well as nature photography (video). So far I have only done some test clips in the studio, but I have not been disappointed. When these are shot 1:1 of small objects and then viewed on my 30 cinema monitor, they are very impressive. Nope, it's not a high end piece of glass, but it the results look very high end.

Pretty good Macro lens.
I have been tryin to take some saltwater fish pics in my tank with my CZ 1.8 lens. It was ok, but could never get close enough. This lens althogh not as sharp as my CZ. It allows me to get close enough to take shots of Coral and was able to take pics of my speedy fishes. Color is accurate and the backgorund blurs very nicely. It is light and size is small enough to take anywere. Video is also very nice on my fish tank.

So cool!
I am for sure the amateur photographer who wanted a step up from point-and-shoot, so I can't speak too technically, but this is the coolest lens ever! I have wanted a nice camera and macro for several years, as I love taking pictures of flowers. For this application, this lens gives great results. I have snapped some other random shots of people, etc. and they turned out fine too, so I am thinking this will be my go-to lens that I can leave on the camera as this is the majority of the subject matter I shoot. I am well pleased, I feel this lens really produces great results!

Excellent optics
Gets real close to subject, very sharp at max aperture, great color rendering, only some color fringing at max aperture. stopped down to 5.6 supersharp. AF speed was ok

A great choice!
Very small compact crisp lens. I have been a Pro photographer for years. Having a small point and shoot turn into a DLSR camera (NEX-5n) mixed with a great macro, helps when I can't fit my D3s into my bag.

Replacing the kit lens
This is a great lens to add to the NEX system. It's obviously not what you would consider an investment because as the NEX system goes so goes the lens line-up. So having said that if you're working with the NEX products this is a wonderful addition.

Better than I expected
It's sharp. It focuses closer than 2 which is fine if you want to move that close to your subject. I was a little dismayed at the cheap feel of the barrel But realized its a system camera and I'm pretty much at the mercy of Sony So whatever...I'm actually very ambivilant about the NEX. I can't seem to find anything that sets it apart as a great camera system.
