Awesome!

Jul 4, 2014

Sony continues to amaze with the new mark3 rx100. I have had each iteration, and this one is lightyears ahead in terms of the lens and the video quality. I use it primarily for video. The one thing that this camera sadly missed is the ability to shoot still frames while shooting video. I have decided to keep my rx100ii because it has the hotshoe which allows me to use it as a studio backup camera.

Great camera

Sep 25, 2014

The RX-100 III is an outstanding point and shoot camera. The image quality is extremely good and its low light capability is excellent. The battery is a little slow to charge through the camera. The camera is small so it is important to use the wrist strap for safety. The settings are not hard to use, but it does require some time to study how to use the controls properly. I really like the EVF.

Awesome, Awesome camera!

Besides the fact that this camera takes great pictures, it's video capabilities are just fantastic for being a compact camera and with the incredible bonus that it has clean Hdmi output so that I can record super high quality ProRes video onto an external recorder just puts it over the top. I love this camera. I had the RX100 mk2 and loved it but this is even more incredible! Thank you Sony!

Nice little camera

Oct 19, 2014

I just purchased this camera and am happy with the quality of the pictures. However, I'm not as happy with the zoom range of the camera. I thought it wouldn't bother me, but after using the camera I have found this disappointing, I am also not enjoying th viewfinder. I find it annoying to have to pull it out all the time. That aside, the pictures are sharp, and the colors are beautiful.

Everything I was lead to expect...

Feb 1, 2015

For a couple of years, I have been thinking about a compact travel camera. I was considering Canon, Panasonic and others including the Sony RX100 II. When the Sony RX100 came out with version 3, I made the decision. I was impressed with the sensor and the faster Ziess 1.8-2.8 lens. The review by DXO Mark left no doubt in my mind. After using it for a couple of weeks, I am very pleased!

Fast sharp lens = very nice photos

Jan 1, 2015

Used at a wedding reception in low light and no flash - took great pictures. The tilting lcd is nice, but the pop-up view finder is better. Very little shutter lag (if any). Overall, a nice improvement over the first model, and a great pocket camera. I didn't like the premium case - made the camera a bit awkward - but does a great job protecting the camera and is of very high quality.

Great camera

Had to replace a Nikon J1 compact (which was ruined when dropped in water), and bought the DSC-RX100. Really happy with a lightweight camera with great capabilities in a small box. High quality Zeiss lens is a big selling point.Use my iPhone for quickie pics but this camera offers the quality you want when you go beyond that but do not want a DSLR because of size or cost.Very happy.

Dead on Arrival

Jul 21, 2014

Really can't wait to turn this camera on but I have gone thru 2 out of the box that won't charge properly. As a previous owner of an RX II which is almost identical I know how it's done. Looks like there must have been some problems with a production run and apparently others have had the same problem. I'm hoping the 3rd camera being sent to replace the defective ones will work.

Great little camera.

May 25, 2017

Starting with the Cons: a bit heavy for a point-and-shoot, and as was described, lacks an often times wished for greater telephoto reach - only goes to 70. Pros: gives great images under a variety of lighting conditions - I wanted it mainly for low light indoor images and it performs well. Has a lot of features, many of which I am still learning about. Pleased with my purchase.

OK, but I prefer the RX100 II

Apr 13, 2015

I upgraded to this from the RX100 II. After spending a day with it, I sent it back and decided the RX100 II was a better camera. I thought the pop-up EVF was too small and hard to see through. The multi-fuction shoe is gone, and in its place is a nice flash. On the positive side, the electronic ND filter option was nice. But I liked the feel and the lens better on the RX100 II.

Great camera!

I bought this camera for a trip to Hawaii as a light weight alternative to my Canon 7D.. Pictures are sharp. So many options to choose from for taking pictures. I bought a backup battery and used it. The battery gets used up faster than I thought it would. The wifi is a great feature. Experience some trouble with taking panoramic shots. It is very sensitive to movement.

Very Good Camera

Jan 2, 2015

High quality camera. Excellent photos and HD videos. Sony menu system is easy to learn. I was able to figure everything out without reading the manual. Pop up EVF comes in handy on bright sunny days. Battery life is a little short so buy an extra battery and external battery charger. Excellent low light photos. I wish the camera had a bigger zoom such as 8X or 10X.

Happy with my purchase

Feb 3, 2015

Love the camera. I bought it for vacation because I was tired of lugging the camera bag around in order to get great shots. I'm very impressed with the ease of use, fast shutter speed, and variety of lighting situations that I can use without worry about picture quality. My other family members are envious. I would recommend this camera if you don't mind the cost.

Good alternative to my DSLR when I want a small camera.

Jun 12, 2017

As a pro, this was a downgrade from my DSLR, but with the Zeiss lens, the results are surprisingly good for a point and shoot. I love being able to carry it in my purse or pocket and get good results, but for a professional shoot would still use my Canon Mark II. Converting the RAW files was a challenge which required upgrading the operating system on my IMAC.

Best Point and Shoot I've ever owned

Jan 10, 2015

I bought this for my partner and she can use it easily and without close up glasses. I'm also a professional photographer and I can use the RAW capabilities when I need to carry a lighter load. The lenses is superb as one would expect from Zeiss glass. The viewfinder is great, the flash works well, it feels solid, and looks great, but also is low key.

Used mostly for street shooting and in museums. Excellent little camera, love how compact it is, can carry it around in a small case on my belt. Still photos are very sharp and bright even indoors without flash. Video quality is very exciting.Superior to the original RX100, which I had previously. Not cheap but well worth the price. No negatives.

Professional-style camera in small package

Feb 14, 2016

There are legitimate reasons the Sony RX100 series of cameras have enhanced the whole world of point and shoot cameras. The RX100 series is wildly popular for good reasons. Sony has built a one-inch sensor and Zeiss lens together with the latest image technology into an attractive pocketable camera. It's a first-class camera for all purposes.

Best Pocket point & shoot Camera to date

Jul 3, 2014

Has everything you would want to travel with, fast lens, very small and portable light weight, excellent and easy menu for quick setup of different scenes, 24 to 70 mm great for most snap shooting. This is now my favorite camera. EVF works great, when outdoors. I pre ordered it as soon as B&H announced it and I am certainly NOT disappointed.

Almost everything I need in a small camera

May 4, 2018

This camera beats all my expectations. Even in auto mode it evaluates the correct scene most of the time and gets the exposure correct. The only think I have found a little lacking is the the zoom length. There are times I do wish it had more. But for travel and scenery where you are mostly wide angle, and people pictures it is fantastic.

Not for beginners

Mar 11, 2015

An absolutely fantastic camera. The amount of control I'm given with relative ease is impressive. It does require a decent amount initial training time to feel comfortable, but the menu wheel and focus ring make for intuitive and accurate adjustments. Overall a fantastic camera for everything from scenary shots, street art and portraits.

Great camera. Really takes awesome pictures.

Aug 7, 2015

Small compact camera really takes great pictures. Didn't think it was possible, but I took a chance and bought the rx100 iii... As a semi-pro photographer, I have to admit I was highly impressed with the pictures. By far, best point and shoot camera that I have ever used and the first that I would recommend to a friend.

A fix for the biggest flaw

Jul 7, 2014

The biggest flaw in the preceding models was the lack of an eye level viewfinder. The Sony RX100mIII solves this. A mild negative is the slightly larger weight and size. It still fits in most of my shirt pockets but is a tighter fit in some than the earlier versions. The lighter lens compensates for the shorter zoom.

Nice, pocketable camera

Aug 4, 2014

Takes very nice photos and fits in a pants pocket. Would be better if the JPEG processing were toned down a bit. Software could also be a bit more user friendly, but, it's still really worth it to get this degree of image quality and versatility in such a small camera that travels so well. Very happy with it.

Great photos, fiddly controls

Oct 21, 2014

Lightweight with great resolution. Viewfinder collapses if it hits my glasses and controls very complicated, especially that it takes several keystrokes to find and move the flexible focus point. I use it when I do not want to carry a heavy SLR: urban, walks, street photography. The camera is a battery hog.
