Pricey but the best

Jul 21, 2015

I shoot daily and am a serious photographer, having owned everything from Hasselblad on. For something you can fit in your pocket, this is as good as it gets. I have owned each generation of this family and the version IV is worth the price of entry. The viewfinder is much more pleasing than the Gen III. 24mm is where the fun begins and I am willing to give up the telephoto end on a tiny camera where it is hard to provide sufficient stability for... Packed w/ Features!

Oct 10, 2015

Excellent walkabout camera in situations where the DSLR is too big and heavy to carry. Full featured camera that can outshine many entry level and even enthusiast level DSLRs. Of course DSLRs have the advantage of interchangeable lenses, but if a Sony's 24-70mm f/1.8-2.8 is all you need, then it's hard to beat the convenience of the DSC-RX100 IV. The 20 megapixel images are sharp and bokeh is wonderful. Really love having the ability to be creati... Show More

A perfect pocket camera

Feb 23, 2016

Like most of us that shop at B&H Photo, I have a decent SLR and a battery of lenses. In addition a baby Leica pocket camera and a Canon G15. So why this camera? Answer: It has features that make it too irresistible. To list my favorites: An electronic viewfinder that shows the actual picture making ISO, speed and/or lens opening choices easy in difficult conditions. Built in wifi that allows quick transfers to my cell phone so that vacation shots... Show More

INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE

Apr 13, 2016

This camera may be small and simply put....a point and shoot but the quality of the images is amazing! And the 4k video is stunning. I mainly use this camera for all day events with my 7 year old son where I don't want to carry around my heavy and large Nikon D750 all day. This is a perfect go to camera for most activities and it fits perfectly inside the smallest bag I carry! I recently used this camera for the Big Apple Circus and it had no pro... Show More

Awesome little camera

Jan 31, 2016

I must stress this upfront. This camera is REALLY small and portable. That being said for its size...its truly remarkable. If you love your dslr or mirrorless but find that you tend to leave your gear behind because of the hassle, you will live this camera. The HFR recording is a neat party trick. i wish the 240 rate was true HD but Im nitpicking here. The 4k footage looks great and crisp. It doesn't have have all the features you would ned for b... Wow

May 31, 2016

This camera is fantastic. There is a bit of a learning curve, but once you customize all the menus and buttons, it's a joy to operate. I haven't touched my dslr since I got it, and I don't really notice any difference in image quality. The 4K video quality is better than I expected. I was blown away by the test footage I took. The image stabilization is also a great feature. The most fun part about the camera is obviously the slow motion, althoug... Show More

My favorite camera PERIOD!

Jul 21, 2015

I own several cameras and have access to others at work (digital publishers) but hands down this is the camera that gets used the most. A camera in your hand is the best camera and with its size it is more often than not, in my pocket. I have an Iphone 6+ and its decent for spur of the moment kid shots etc but there is no comparison to the RX100 IV. I had the first Gen RX100 and while my Canon 5Diii is awesome, my Fuji X100T makes streets and peo... Show More

Perfect for my travelling needs!

May 7, 2017

I travel extensively for my job. My Nikon 7100 and assorted lenses, tripod are just too much to carry on a regular basis. I searched and contemplated for over a year before I pulled the plug on this one. It is small and packed with features. I have really put this camera through it's paces this last week. The ND filter option is fantastic. I have included a couple of time exposure waterfall shots that were taken mid day and was able to get good r... Show More

Marginal Improvements

Jul 6, 2015

Initial observations compared with the Mk III: The AF is maybe slightly faster and more fail-safe. The EVF is visibly superior: both in resolution and contrast. Focus is thus more visible. Per DP Review's comparison JPEG files are slightly less sharpened but otherwise IQ is virtually identical. I am personally not as focused on 4K, super high shutter speed and frame rate and the other advantages of the extreme speed of the new sensor system. So n... Show More

Great camera for the size.

Oct 22, 2015

The goods: excellent photo quality, with a good lens. I am impressed enough by the initial test with the camera that I am leaving my 5D iii at home for this family trip I am going this weekend. For me, the fact the lens has f/1.8 at 24mm and f/2.8 at 70mm is a real plus. The color quality and noise is also pretty good. Also, if you like to post pictures to social media, the wifi is another plus. I haven't had any issue with it yet. The bad: The m... Show More

Excellent small camera

Nov 5, 2015

I bought this camera for a few reasons. Mainly that with a baby coming, I wanted something pocketable with really good low-light performance, to start taking photos in the hospital and nursery. Also as a hobbyist with a Nikon D5000 and a few decent lenses, I wanted something else to carry with me to use for wide angle shots while shooting events, when my dSLR was wearing its 50-150mm. I'm just completely blown away by the results. Easy to learn t... Show More

excellent but pricey

I decided to upgrade from the RX100 MK3, was it worth it,,, yes and no. the biggest reason I upgraded was for added responsiveness. this camera is faster without a doubt, especially when shooting a moving object. so for me the upgrade was worth it. the 4k option is cool to have, but more of a added bonus for me. the slowmo I don't really care for. if any of the above aren't of interest to you then stick with the M3 and wait for the M5, or hopeful... Hoped for a DSLR sub but waste of money

Dec 28, 2018

I bought this hoping for a small, lightweight sub for my DSLR while cycling/skiing/hiking. Image quality is great but camera is extremely frustrating to use. Main reason I chose this was the viewfinder, as I have trouble seeing the LCD screen. It takes 2 steps (pop up, then pull out eyepiece with 2 hands) each time you want to use it. If you leave it out, the eyepiece easily slips back in and you need to pull it out again, by which time your shot... Show More

Best Pocketabe Camera Hands Down

Jul 8, 2019

There are no perfect photo machines but this RX100 IV is close for this type of camera. Photos are excellent up to 1600 ISO and perfectly acceptable at somewhat higher ISO. A ton of features that take time to discover and implement. This is definitely a Pro Consumer camera, not for a novice, but with effort it renders great results. Sony menu systems are difficult but once mastered seem good considering the extensive features available. Very wel... Show More

Traded up from the RX100 II and the upgrade was worth every penny. IQ is excellent and enjoying the the extra wide angle lens. However, miss the 100mm reach of the RX100 II. Low-light results are amazing. The EVF is a real plus in bright light situations. 4k video is great and looking forward to making creative vids with the slo-mo feature. Wish the battery lasted longer, so getting a backup is a must. Also, get the Sony grip and the Vello LCD Sc... Show More

Powerful little camera

Jul 17, 2015

This is the camera that you can carry just about everywhere and capture very high quality video and stills. The AF system is fast and accurate. Love the color from the .jpgs...haven't had a chance to shoot RAW yet. Its fun playing with the high frame rates, but I wouldn't count on 480 or 960 for professional applications as the noise level gets high. 4k video looks great! Awesome little camera!

Oct 7, 2015

I bought this camera to have a very compact, RAW-capable camera to keep in my work bag. The quality is amazing for such a small package. I hate the Sony menu system, but the results are great. I was carrying my Fuji X100T with me everywhere, but the Sony has a nice zoom lens in a much smaller package. I still love my Fuji and Fuji X-T1 which remain my cameras of choice for vacation travel where I can carry them in my Billingham Hadley Large bag. But, for a small, high-quality image machine, the Sony could very well be the only camera that most casual photographers need. Cheers. Bud

Small and that is about it

Mar 9, 2016

Like most users I wanted something better than my iPhone and smaller than my 5D. I wanted to keep it in my go bag all the time so I would have something for that special shot that just happens. The image quality is good, better than the phone, but nowhere near my DSLR. It is heavy and slow to do almost everything. For $ you wold expect a manual. And to a DSLR, C100 shooter this camera is not at all intuitive. Can't do much without digging down via layers of menus. Video quality is good. So it may serve my basic need, but it is not a tool for the professional.

Big punch tiny package

Nov 4, 2015

Probably the best point and shoot in the market. I previously bought a canon g7x and was happy with the image quality but sony offers a comparable image with highly flexible settings. The video capabilities if that's important to you are unmatched currently. 240 fps at 1080 is difficult to find in a package this size. The menus are a bit challenging at first but iIquickly learned it in a few days. Search youtube for great tips on settings. If you're just into photography go for the Sony mk 3 or g7x.. But the best all around crown goes to the sony rx100 iv

Great compact camera!

Jan 18, 2017

This is my second DSC-RX100. I love this camera. It's compact and fits in my pocket, so it goes with me everywhere and I use it almost every day. It's technically sophisticated, but versatile and easy to use. I opened an exhibition in New York last evening. Half the prints were made with my DSLR, and half with with my DSC-RX100. The show has prints up to 20 x 24 inches and it is impossible to tell the difference between images taken with the DSLR and the DSC-RX100. The prints are crisp, with rich tonality and color. I couldn't be more pleased.

Handy for Travel. I 'm interesting to have slow motion tool to use it. But I really don't like this product, because I set for 4K movie and active grid line, when I shoot something it suddenly changed to grey color and the grid line change to wide white line on both LED and the view finder I cannot to see my major object. Then I asked SONY USA and Tokyo, they said several way to adjust on the menu. In mu knowledge I cannot handle to set somany things and final I returned the product. I am not recommend to anybody else to buy this product.

Best in class pocketable compact

Jun 17, 2016

Sure it wont give you DSLR quality pictures but when its small and light enough to fit in your coat pocket you wouldn't expect it to anyway. It is simply the best in class in terms of image quality and functionality. It has a handy short zoom which is bright and stabilised and is fast to turn on and frame up. Only thing i would do is redesign the awful Sony menu system. They have packed a massive amount of features in this camera and we sure live in privileged times for such quality in such a small body.

Pocket-size, Excellent Images

Jun 30, 2016

I was looking for a pocket-size camera with viewfinder, that would provide excellent image quality. The RX-100 iv seems to be it. It's a small camera so many of the options need to be accessed through it's menus. But important options are available outside the menus, and most important can be programmed. The feel is that of, well. a small camera. But for a few bucks one can purchase an attachment grip that helps. (Don't know why Sony doesn't include this on every camera... yes I do... $.)

Second one I have owned

Mar 30, 2017

If you want a simple point and shoot, this camera may be overkill but, if you want the equivalent of a DSLR that you can carry in you pocket, you can't go wrong with this camera. This is the second RX100 I have owned (the first, series 1, was stolen). The 70mm telephoto might seem a bit short but the 20MP 1 sensor allows one to crop images and still have a sharp photo. This is a great camera but, I find the manual to be poorly written and I have to go on-line to answer some questions.
