Solid pictures from an excellent camera
Originally I bought this camera as a substitute for my DSLR, so I'm still getting used to this camera. I recently brought it with me to trips to NYC and Taiwan, and I'm impressed. I didn't want to carry too much gear on my travels as I have a toddler so this was the perfect solution to getting RAW images without the weight of a Canon 5D. I will probably use this camera more often for food blogging now.The menu is a bit cumbersome, and custom cont... Show More

Good camera, not so good manual
The camera is very complex and capable of doing great things. However, the manual covers only the basics and doesn't go into detail about how to do anything. You must search the internet to find out how to change settings etc. It is not as user friendly as the Canon Sureshot I had before. I bought this particular Sony because the video is supposed to be superior to other point and shoots. I am using it underwater, in a housing, and not getting gr... Show More

amazing little camera
I am an amateur photographer, in my possession I have a pentax k5 and nex 3 but I always carry a point and shot in this instance (lx5), however the quality of the images sometimes left much to be desired (the sensor is very small 1.7). said this. i was thinking of buying this camera for about 3 months, and I was wondering if it would be worth the price, and the answer is YES. this tiny little camera has an impressive quality in the images, in fac... Absolutely Amazing Camera
I use this product for both personal and business. I prefer this over my slr because its smaller, crisper, and less hassle. The video quality is amazing as well. Thanks to B&H I was able to get this camera after being unhappy with another camera I previously ordered. They took the return back no questions asked and are a great company!

Nice but not worth the $$$ over others
I do like how compact this camera is and the quality of the photos but I do not like the deep menu diving and lack of zoom. When shooting with the RX100 I missed a few shots trying to adjust the settings and it also left me feeling like I wanted more. I have a Canon S100 that gives me almost the exact same results as the RX100. If you dont already have a good point n shoot then I would recommend the RX100. With this being the first of its kind... I'll wait for the newer version to come out. Maybe the newer version will have a ND filter??? I've exchanged this for the NEX-6.

WOW!!!!
I JUST GOT IT SO UNTIL I FAMILIARIZE MYSELF MORE, I JUST PUT IT ON AUTOMATIC AND SHOOT. IN MY WORK AS AN EVENT PHOTOGRAPHER AND TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHER -I SIMPLE KEEP IT ON THAT ONE SETTING. THE CLARITY IS COMPLETELY AMAZING - SO MUCH BETTER THAN MY PREVIOUS POCKET CAMERA.

Perfect companion for dslr shooter
I love this little camera! My main camera is a Canon 5D mkII, which I love dearly (especially when I have my fast primes on it). The problem is that it spoils me with image quality, wide open apertures, and the ability to tweak all the settings. For daily life, though, it's too big to carry around, so I ended up shooting lots of pictures with my iPhone and a Canon D20 (a wondering camera in the fact that you can take it pretty much anywhere, not ... Impressed
So far so good. I asked a friend who is really into photography for a camera recommendation. This was one of the recommendations. I am in no way a professional/semi-professional, etc. We were having a baby and I wanted a really good camera to take everywhere to capture all the great moments. So far this camera is quite amazing. All of the pictures are turning out really great. I never thought I would spend so much on a camera but I think it was w... Show More

sooo elegant
I was looking for a small camera which could take pictures I could crop and enlarge. This sub-compact beauty has everything I needed from a fast quality lens to a large processor. There are plenty of shooting options as well as manual over-rides, allowing me to take any sort of picture in any sort of condition. The prints are crisp and clear. If Sony is listening, it only needs to be splash-proof to be perfect.

Great picture and handling but quirky
Overall great picture quality and pretty fast handling but has some quirks that make it less than ideal. Minimum telephoto focusing distance is surprisingly long, the focusing can be less predictable, especially in low light, than I would have anticipated. The menu structure is a bit tedious and really requires customizing the settings to your liking. A shame it does not have a touch screen (surely everybody knows that is the future). Takes a whi... Fantastic little point and shoot
I bought this camera to take on an upcoming trip to Europe because I want SLR quality photos without the bulk of an SLR camera. I am not an experienced photographer and after playing around with the camera I have found the many shooting options to be a bit confusing. However, with more hands on time I think I will really enjoy using the camera. The built in guide is great for beginners and will come in handy when I need to remember what settings ... Show More

Excellent Travel Camera
Bought this camera to use for travel when I didn't want to carry my big DSLR (Nikon D800 + lenses) around. I like to travel and I like to take great photographs while traveling ... and I can enjoy the travel more when not carrying the big DSLR gear. The RX100 is truly pocketable yet offers almost as much professional control as the DSLR. The RX100 produces images that are sharp and that make good prints even under enlargement. The only drawback I... Show More

BEST POCKET CAMERA MADE
By far the best compact ever made. I have a Canon S100 that I really like, so there was benchmark for comparison. I set up both the S100 and RX100 on a tripod and made some detail photos of bricks. The RX100 runs circles around the S100 for detail rendering and noise levels. The latter is where it really shines. At high ISO, 1600+, the S100 smears detail that the RX100 still clearly resolves. It also has an intuitive feature set, and a great prog... Show More

Nice package, soft focus...
there is a lot to like here, but in general i think this camera is not a good value. the big plus is the controls, which i think are really well thought out. and the mirrorless system makes the shutter speed nice and fast, so that the time between pictures is close to 0. but the focus is soft. this is really obvious in the underwater scenario (we use this camera in an ikelite housing). for the price, i would not get this camera.

Amazing little camera
This is an incredible little camera that I've heard nothing but amazing things about. I bought it for those situations when I don't feel like lugging a huge SLR around but now that I've used it and looked at the quality of the images it produces, I think it can replace my SLR most of the time. I think I'll bring it the next time I go on vacation and leave the SLR at home. The pros are already well documented: industry-leading short lag, low light ... Show More

Excellent
Performs flawlessly. Unless you have particular intentions, I suggest letting the camera make its own intelligent decisions. Camera has only amazed me, has not let me down yet. Lens front surface is concave, and can get dirty. Clean with appropriate materials only. Strong flash.

Glorious.
What can I say about this camera that hasn't already been said? It's a fantastic camera. It combines the best of a point and shoot and the best of a DSLR into a convenient little package. As a photographer who loves to travel, I'm feeling a little bad for my larger DSLR that's sure to get a little less play time now. The RX100 is an easy to use, easy to learn camera with bells and whistles that are fast, user friendly, and convenient without sacr... Show More

Amazing camera
the best compact camera i ever had in m hands. I bought this for my wife, i have a canon s100 and her camera is definitely better. Very similar in terms of features but a slight better software with a 'function ' button that allows accessing the key features u r most interested in. And needless to say, what is amazing is the sensor. It's so amazing! Pricey camera but the sensor compensates the steep price !

Amazing but ...
GREAT camera. Simply amazing but ... don't buy this if you aren't the kind of person that reads the manual. It's not that the camera is complicated but there are so many amazing features and things it does, that by not reading the manual, you will miss a lot. For example, there are two automatic settings. It is important to know what the difference is. If you just want a camera to turn to auto and take pictures, there are cheaper, amazing cameras. But if you are an enthusiast and want to take advantage of the capabilities of an amazing camera, BUY THIS!

Good compact
I just started using it so no comment yet on the quality. Very compact, Very fast. The basic instructions came with it but the detailed instructions are hidden on the website. The flash sticks up enough to make me nervous that I'm going to knock it off. There are not a lot of dials so you have to go through menus for everything. I wish there was and external charger.

Sony got it right
I've been using a lower echelon Sony P&S camera for about a year, and enjoying the funcitionality, esp. excellent HD video. However, I've been disappointed (but not surprised given the sensor size) by the still images. With the RX100, Sony nailed it - superb video and superb still images, all from the same size package. This will be my default camera for travel, scenics, and snapshooting for the forseeable future, freeing my Canon DSLR for wildlife. Highly recommend for those who care about image quality.

Great Camera - worth the price
Great camera! I'm a mom of 3 and this is a great replacement for my SLR which has just been inconvenient to take anywhere. This camera is fast and works great in low light situations. Quality of the photos are SLR-like with the added bonus that this is extremely convenient to carry around. Looking forward to taking more pictures of my kids as they grow up with this camera.
