Won't power up

Sep 16, 2018

I bought this for a pocket camera when traveling in January. Normally a Nikon dslr shooter. I took it to Mexico 8 months ago and it performed well and I was happy with the images. Getting ready to head out on another trip and it will not power on. Batteries fully charged but the camera will not turn on unless it is connected to an outlet via the USB cord. Will be calling Olympus tomorrow and hoping they stand by their one year warranty.

Great macro. Average otherwise

Sep 1, 2018

I bought this camera for is ability to stitch together multiple photos at different focal points into a single image. This is very valuable in still-image macro photography where depth of field is almost zero otherwise. I am quite pleased with how well this works, especially with the optional LG-1 attachment to the flash. I have not tried the WiFi features. The built-in GPS seems to work well. It accurately tagged the location of my pho... Show More

Almost perfect

Aug 1, 2018

As an advanced amateur who travels a lot I needed a camera with the TG-5's capabilities. After using the camera for several months I find that it fulfills my needs and performs very well. The menus are easy to learn and use. The macro and night functions are better than expected from a point and shoot. The picture quality/exposure are quit good for a 12 Megapixel sensor. Video quality is solid. My only big complaint is that you hear motor noise when zooming shooting video. There is no reason for that, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

Great macro camera

Jul 30, 2018

Bought this camera to collect data for a bumblebee survey. Collects GPS, temperature, altitude, and pressure data as well as being a great macro camera. Not to mention that it is an underwater camera, so protected against dust and moisture. A perfect field camera for a scientist.

Capturing the Moment

Jul 29, 2018

I am new with the TG-5 and still learning the many features this camera offers. My camera was purchased just days before a planned on road/ off road motorcycle trip. The auto feature saved the day as the pictures I returned home with were great. For travel the compact size and ease of use make this camera a great travel partner.

TG5 sn# BHVA01332 purchased from B&H July 2, 2017 - died inexplicably and suddenly July 28, 2018 - just outside warranty - wish I had paid by cc instead of PayPal and the 12 month warranty would have been doubled - stupid me! Battery tests fine, camera just quit at the end of a shoot - never bumped, dropped, never immersed, never splashed, but used in an environment where it could be, and had to be compact, hence this choice of camera. Decent image quality. RAW format

Jul 26, 2018

I'm a Nikon guy, but the lack of RAW on the Coolpix W300 pushed me to the Olympus. At 25-100, the zoom range is a little short (24-120 on the Nikon, which is also a little short) What's the deal with no lens cap? Pain to find out it doesn't come in the box and have to order the Sensei. (IF Olympus won't include it, I'm not buying theirs.) Image quality is ok. It's no D850, but it didn't cost a fortune and doesn't weigh a ton either... Show More

Initial Impression - Excellent Camera

Jul 23, 2018

With my wife heading to the Dominican Republic with her daughter's family in two weeks, I wanted to get her a camera she could be comfortable using (my Canon M5 intimidates her), the grandkids could learn how to use without too much fear of them damaging it and one that was water and dust proof for the pool and beach. After some quick internet reviews, it didn't take long to determine that the Olympus TG-5 was the right ticket. Yes, it has some s... Show More

So far so good

Jul 13, 2018

I have only had it for a few weeks. The colors from the images really pop out. Sharpness is good too, although I am comparing the images to my DSLR which is twice the MP. The manual isn't the easiest to follow. The camera is fairly intuitive once you get going. I am really just experimenting and trying to figure it out. I bought it mostly to use on fishing and kayaking trips. It has not been exposed to water yet. It seems pretty rock solid.

This could have been a hands-down winner, but blew it.

Jul 10, 2018

Maybe I'm too picky, and I normally don't give reviews, but... I shoot Nikon D5 etc and stay up to date as much as possible. On trip to South America and exploring caves and doing some shots underwater. I know the camera is tough because I slammed it on the ground during a fall. My Nikons would have shattered but this camera survived and then I took it in the water and no leaks. So yes it's tough, however a huge flaw that experienced photographer... Show More

Underwater and Microscope mode

Jun 19, 2018

I was trying hard to find the right combination of underwater housing and higher-end point-and-shoot camera on clearance for a cost effective underwater rig, until my girlfriend came up with this camera as a simple solution to my dilemma. After realizing that the microscope mode was a thing, and finally admitting that her approach made much more sense, we bought the camera before going back to Dry Tortugas National Park for some snorkeling. ... Great camera

Jun 18, 2018

I bought this camera after a lot of research and I couldn't be happier. It takes great pictures on the auto setting and has a lot of manual settings if you are so inclined. Underwater pictures turn out great. My only negative is the panorama feature. I couldn't get it to work for me after several tries. The pics are obviously stitched together with a definite line. But I really don't use this function normally anyway. The macro settings are incredibly for close ups. Overall one of the best non slr cameras I've ever owned.

Poor battery chamber design

Jun 14, 2018

At first, I couldn't get the battery chamber to open and exchanged it. The next one flooded a week after I got it. The Nikon 300 has a far superior design. I can't comment on the Olympus picture quality since it flooded and ruined all the pictures.

Tough enough for Alaska

The TG-5 handled the rough treatment and harsh climate of traveling in the Alaskan wilderness for the past several weeks by sea kayak. Controls and screens were easy to use and navigate. Image quality of 4K video looks exceptional. Photos in JPG also looked great but size could be larger. Thanks B&H for your great service and fast shipping!

Great "Active-Use" Camera

May 9, 2018

I bought it for a rafting trip that hasn't happened yet, so I can speak about the water-proofing. But I used it on a vacation that included tourism plus a 7-day bike tour and found the TG-5 to be a great compact companion. Much better than a cell-phone camera in scene composition, speed of deployment, and light/exposure management. The handle strap is really robust, which proved great in action situations. A very pleasant surprise was how well the macro mode worked. I got some great photos at Bois de Halles in Belgium, and the tulip gardens in Holland. I'm totally happy with this purchase.

I'm a camera snob...pixel peeper...my husband bought me this for a world cruise to be used in wet conditions (small boats, snorkeling, etc.) but I found it worked fantastic in Sport Mode to take photos from moving buses of the countryside! Better than my Sony a6300 on S mode! The resolution was great, ease of use (used Auto a lot!), and versatility made it our "go to" camera for many ports. Love this camera! (and GPS is awesome!)

For the places you wouldn't take other cameras

Apr 10, 2018

Don't read the forum posters or listen to reviews of people complaining about sensor size and image quality. Here's the thing - you can take this camera places you wouldn't take other cameras, like underwater. My advice is to lock the ISO at 100, stop the lens down once to clean up the corners (it's only two stops of actual aperture movement, the rest is done with ND filters), shoot RAW, and use it in bright day and bright underwater conditions. ... But the lack of manual is a minus, as one-line manual is incomplete. I had to rely on the manual from the TG2 and guess the rest. well made

Mar 29, 2018

I only have testing it for about 10 days, haven't been under water. My tests show that shooting camera RAW at ISO 100 produces very nice 12x18 prints. I do not think much of the users guide, or the lack of a battery charger that you can plug into the wall. the battery needs to be charged in the camera. Very good camera for knock around carry.
