This is arguably one of the best lenses in the Micro Four Thirds format. It's small, light and pin-sharp right into the corners. An awesome prime lens !
Camera body used with this lens: Olympus epl-5Let me briefly share with you my experience so far (about 2-3 weeks now) with the 45mm f/1.8It is very effective creating those blurred, out of focus (Bokeh) image's. Big value in little package.
This is a pretty great lens for the price point. Sure the product itself is made of plastic, and feel slightly cheap in the hand. But when it's on the camera (my GH3) the reduced weight is a good selling point. I kinda forget it's there. Magnificent Lens
I use this lens for general shooting as well as for portraits. It is absolutely sharp! I have to turn down the default sharpening in all of the pictures I take with this lens! The AF is very quiet - it was hard to get used to when I first bought the lens because I didn't think it was focusing. I was looking for fast prime lens but had difficulty choosing the right one. I purchased this lens in anticipation of the new OM-D E-M1 I pre-ordered. I am making the shift from full frame to the smaller, lighter, micro four thirds system. Sure is tiny, but clearly well made. Another high quality prime for m4/3
I use this lens for portraits and certain types of architectural photography. What makes the lens unique is its focal length and the fact that it is f/1.8. As a result, I have tended so far to use it wide open. It fills an important niche in the focal range for m4/3 and it is worth owning for that reason alone. As good as the M.Zuiko 25mm F1.8 lens
This lens is as good as the 25mm f/1.8 version, which is excellent. Metal lens mount is high quality. Focus ring is smooth an consistent. It produces very sharp images. Focusing is fast with the E-M10 and lengthly exposures with a decent tripod are fantastic. Portraits are equally great. Simply sensational on the OM-D
A perfect complement to the OM-D: small, light, extremely sharp, even wide open, and with lovely bokeh. Surprised by its sharpness
I was quite surprised by the sharpness of this lens even at its widest aperture, but I guess I shouldn't have been since I know that Olympus produces some of the best affordable glass available. The body is plastic, it isn't weather-sealed like the PRO lenses are, and it's tiny when mounted on the E-M1X. Olympus 45mm 1.8 MFT lens
I got this lens to use on my Inspire 1 and Inspire 2 drones. This lens is awesome. I needed this for a 7.4 mile foot race, but couldn't fly over people, so flew offset. Lens gives great clarity and sharpness. Just remember that objects are further away than they appear. Both the X5 and X5S cameras give excellent stability, especially considering it's a telephoto lens. I would recommend getting the DJI balancing rings for whichever camera you use ... Show More

Very good, but not awesome
Sharp enough, fast enough (f/1.8), compact and portable enough, looks good in silver. Definitely a keeper. But, I find that despite its pretty good bokeh, in practice it's hard to get the shallow depth of field and strikingly blurred-out backgrounds that isolate the subject, that seem to come so easily with a fast 85mm or 90mm full frame lens. Superb quality for close-ups
Great lens for close-ups. But also can be effective for landscapes if you are positioned appropriately. Really forces you to move around to get a good perspective. Not good for tight spaces like museum rooms or pubs, unless you want to take pics of your plate or friends' faces. Still, it's a high-Q lens alongside the other Oly primes like the 25 and 17mm/1.8. All three are equally good for low-light photography. Advice; Determine what your own photog style is -- landscape, street, portrait/close-in, or all, then buy the lens that fits it. This 45mm fits the portrait/close-in the best.

I am glad I bought it.
Annoyances: I am irritated that it does not come with its own lens hood. Its mount is really tight, requiring extra effort to lock it into place. At first I thought something was wrong, but I had it in correctly. Positives: I have five prime lenses for my beloved 35 year old film SLR. The 100 mm telephoto has always been my favorite. I wanted a similar focal length for my OM-D. I hesitated because of the price, but I am glad I went ahead. It works perfectly with my OM-D EM10 Mk II, same quick and quiet focusing. Images are uniformly sharp. It deserves its fine reputation.

Great Fast Prime
The Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.8 is a great lens on the Olympus OM-D E-M5. Fast & quiet AF. f/1.8 gives good low-light performance and shallow DOF. Smooth action w/ the focus-by-wire MF ring. Nice and sharp. Small and light weight. Great portrait lens equivalent to 90mm on SLR and great general-purpose lens if you like the short telephoto focal length. Trim Ring that covers up the bayonet mount for the lens hood is a bit odd -- I guess because the lens is so small the size required for the bayonet mount looks out of proportion in black on the silver lens.

M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm: Great Investment
This 45mm micro four-thirds lens is equivalent to 90mm on a full-frame camera (because of the M43 crop factor). The lens is light-weight (116g) and is made of plastic, apart from the metal mount, but it does feel solid. Most importantly, the glass is good and the silver-colored barrel looks nice on my DJI Zenmuse X5. I use this lens only for drone work so I can't comment on how well still photographs look taken with this lens, but the video images I have film are super clean & sharp. A great lens that I more often fly/film with- rather than the DJI 15mm kit lens.

The Sharpest Lens I've Used Yet
I'm in the process of building up an Olympus 4/3 lens set for my OM-D E-M1 I gave myself for Christmas. I currently have the 12-40 2.8, the 60mm macro, the 40-150 4-5.6, and this 45mm 1.8. Now admittedly my 75mm 1.8 isn't here yet, but after some pixel peeping with the glass I have, I've concluded the 45mm 1.8 is the sharpest lens I've personally used to date. And that includes my fleet of pro nikkor lenses as well. This dinky little 45mm lens made me chuckle when I put it on my camera, but man does it deliver the goods. Get this glass. You won't regret it.

Maravilloso lente
El placer de una buena fotografia empieza en el momento mismo de su toma. Uso el 45 mm en Manual Focus, por su extrema nitidez y excelente brokeh. El encuadre aumentado del Visor Electronico y el Histograma en tiempo real (mrito de mi Olympus OMD ) hacen el resto. As la composicion refleja mis intenciones, al hacer perfecto foco en lo que me interesa, con un desenfoque muy esttico del resto y con el balance de luz apropiado. An M43 Must Have
This lens is a must have if you have a M43 camera. It is very sharp, even at f1.8. Overall, it is at least as sharp as my Canon L lenes. It focuses very fast, and has a very nice bokeh. At last, I can get a nice, short depth of field that I have not been able to get with the Oly kit lens or my Canon kit lens. This has been my go to lens of late. The only time I haven't used it is when I knew I would be in a confined area and needed somthing wider. It is light, well made, and even smaller than the kit lens. However, it is a tight fit on the camera.

Returning to This Excellent Lens
I purchased one of this lenses a few years ago, but then I sold it thinking that a 1.5 f-stop faster lens is what I wanted. But at over 3 times the weight, the faster & heavier portrait lens was not in line with what the micro four thirds (MFT) movement is all about - compact high performance. I received the Olympus 45mm less than a month ago, and I am very pleased to have this lens again. It was my main go-to lens for a large non-profit event this past weekend, and it will again be my lens of choice as my compact, high performance portrait lens.

A bargain for two excellent prime lenses
The decision about which of these primes to buy was resolved by the savings involved in purchasing them as a package. Obviously useful not only for portraits but for situations where medium telephoto might be in order for a while. The 45mm is very compact and unobtrusive. The 75mm is larger and heavier but offers more length and a more shallow depth of field, and is one of the highest quality lenses available for MFT. Critical! The LH-40B lens hood DOES FIT the 45 mm AFTER YOU UNSCREW A SMALL PROTECTIVE RING from the front of the lens!!

A Keeper Lens from Olympus
The best Olympus prime lens so far for u4/3 camera body. Very sharp in both center and edge of frame from f1.8 to f11, very good contrast and nice bokeh. Fast, almost noiseless, accurate focusing in low light even with the older E-PL1 body. Manual focusing is also smooth. Plastic component made this lens light and affordable but still feel precise in performance. This complements the very good Lumix Panasonic 20mm f1.7 I bought last year. Expect this lens to be a bestseller given it's excellent optical quality and reasonable pricing.

What an amazing piece of glass!
I must say this was my favorite Christmas present I bought myself. I absolutely love the photos that I've been taking with this lens. So many people have commented on how great the pics look, especially when used on my EM-5. WOW! I like how compact the lens is and how lightweight it is. I do wish the Olympus hood that I bought separately fit a tad more snug but overall a great piece of kit. For the price you truly cannot beat the quality. I wished I bought this sooner and it is worth every single penny spent. I love my primes!

Light enough that you will always have it with you
I thought about buying the 70 mm lens which s much more expensive, and weighs more than twice as much. I bought this system to be small and light so I will use it more often. This lens suits that purpose. It has a shallow enough depth of field that you can isolate you subject. Since I purchased this lens primarily for portraits I don't care if the edge sharpness is not the same quality as the 70mm lens. The 45mm focal length also works better for parties than the 70mm lens would. The lower cost made this an easy decision.
