Incredible Instrument for Creatives

Dec 30, 2015

Having owned the Olympus E-System since its inception of the E1, this OM-D EM5 MKII is simply phenomenal. There are so many superlatives I could award this camera but to name just a few-- Focus Peaking and Focus Magnification for non digital {old school analog lenses} opens the use of those retired lenses back into my hands for the first time in over 10 years for the mere and slight cost of a adaptor. I'm thrilled with this new imaging instrument for my photography.

Outstanding stabilization

Feb 17, 2016

I find that the 5 axis stabilization is amazing for hand-held shooting. Noise is quite low, too. Use in the field, with the camera's and lens lighter weights, has made photography fun again. Although, if you use this camera with only its basic controls, it isn't difficult to learn, the menu system and the vast number of options, make for a very complex camera to master. It would be a great improvement, if the sensor had more pixels. Maybe in the future edition.

Great value for a high quality 4/3 camera

Feb 21, 2017

My first 4/3 camera. Very impressed with the capabilities of the m5 MarkII! Stabilization system is amazing, easily giving 4-5 stop advantage. Can do just about everything an SLR can do with the obvious size/weight advantage. This would be 5 stars if it came with a larger sensor, either a 1.5 crop factor APS-C or full-frame size. No doubt Olympus will increase sensor size some time in the future, but for now this camera takes outstanding pictures.

Excellent Upgrade

Feb 28, 2016

I have used an OM-D E-M5 since 2012 primarily for family, nature and landscape photography. The Mark II streamlines many of the things I love about the original with the new function switch and better dial placement and programming. The only thing that has not improved is the ability to photograph my sons playing hockey. I can obtain great action photos but it takes work with no significant improvement in focusing ability from the original.

A Nice Upgrade

Dec 26, 2016

This is a nice upgrade to the original EM5 which I also have. I appreciate the extra additional function buttons although I disabled the HDR one next to the shutter release because I've hit it inadvertently a couple of times. It is easy enough to turn it back on - once you've learned to navigate the menus. All and all - a nice upgrade for a decent price. And of course I have to mention the usual quick service in fulfilling my order by B&H.

Fall in love with a camera

Feb 1, 2017

Love this camera! It's menu is a steep learning curve for me, but the OMD in depth video from B & H on You Tube Presented by Brian Rycyk (olympus rep) is extremely helpful, So Thanks B&H! I also love the amazing stablization this camera has. I'm using the Zuiko 12-40 pro lens and pictures are sharp, crisp and just plain fun to take. There are more customizing possibilities than I will ever use, but if I decide I want to, I certainly can!

Awesome upgrade from E-M5

Dec 2, 2015

This will now be my main camera body with my E-M5 handling back up duty. Coming from a Nikon D2x and all the 2.8 zooms MFT is just amazing. Firstly these cameras have so many cool features. HDR, Live bulb, with firmware 2.0 we have focus stacking. Their size and weight are so liberating. The in body image stabilization is almost witchcraft. The only real drawback I see in this camera is focus tracking of subjects moving toward you.

Superb Camera

Mar 27, 2015

I have both the E-M1 and this E-M5 MK II Cameras and I love them both. These Cameras like little Jewels having the highest quality of workmanship I do not find in my Nikon Cameras. The Olympus Pro Lenses have the same Masterpiece quality of workmanship and performance. Olympus cameras are very customizable beyond my imagination, very easy to use them and easy to carry them around due to the light weight and small size.

Fantastic upgrade

Dec 30, 2015

I love this camera, and I loved the OM-D EM-5, I was nervous about the upgrade but it performs marvelously. The 60fps video with stabilization feels like your own personal steady-cam. The processor is extremely fast, as is the auto-focus. And the stills turn out fantastic with bright, warm, film-like colors. The camera feels rugged enough to take anywhere (and I recommend the grip, I use that as well).

A worthwhile upgrade to the original

May 9, 2017

An upgrade to the original E-M5 for me. I like the various tweaks that have been made to the original. The fully articulating screen took some getting used to, but now I would not want to do without it. Picture quality is superb, and the M4/3 format is so convenient. Nice selection of lenses for this format. I shoot the 12-40 f2.8 zoom most of the time, which covers the most usable range for me.

Great features, but not very robust!

Aug 18, 2015

I have the camera for several months but used it only for a few days altogether. Great camera, I upgraded from the OMD EM5. Many new features that I love. I also like the new articulated lcd. However after only unfolding it perhaps 25 times, the LCD went black and will not come back under any circumstances. I checked up on Google and found many more cases exactly like mine. Very disappointed!

Great pro camera on a budget

Dec 27, 2016

I am used to using the Canon and Nikon pro cameras but was never able to afford one for myself. I turned to the Olympus because of cost and the very good features it has. One of the best features is the 4:3 and 16:9 switchable formats. I can do video in 16:9 and portraits in 4:3. I use 2 flashes off the camera with umbrellas and the sync perfectly off the flash included with the camera.

Menu is elaborate because of the vast options

Dec 1, 2015

I own two OM-D E-M5 MII and after spending an hour or so reading the manual and learning the function of all the options , I found it pretty impressive. I've owned a studio for over twenty years, and just got tired of carrying the weight and bulk of so much large equipment around. The ergonomics and weight of the OM-D system was definitely a change for the better. Great lens selection.

Great image quality, but...

Sep 27, 2015

The lack of thought or logic in the menu system of this camera crosses over into the ridiculous realm. I am sending it back with regret, but sending it back. I have asked other owners for advice, and was told they had to buy expanded manuals and video courses; that alone is indicative of a problem. Until the menu system is improved, I would not recommend this camera to anyone.

Bulletproof

Apr 3, 2019

Ive had this camera for three years and it has been through everything - submerged for a few seconds in sea water, dropped off a table, through dust storms, rain, high humidity, oppressive heat, -10 cold and snow and it has yet to let me down. I used it for the solar eclipse and storm photography. It is versatile and I love the customization. The image stabilization is unreal.

Great camera - just as expected from all the reviews.

Dec 8, 2016

Nice compact body. Reasonable handling with my Panasonic 2.8 zooms. HDR and High Resolution modes are interesting upgrades and will be useful (although requiring a tripod for best performance). Nice that it shares the same battery as my older Olympus EP-5. Remarkably quiet shutter and very detailed viewfinder. All-in-all, perfect fit for my hiking and traveling needs.

Powerful camera in a compact package

Jun 16, 2016

I'm loving this camera, I have the e-m5 mark 1 and decided to upgrade to the Mark 2 for it's additional features and have not been disappointed! The improved image stabilization is visible even through the evf which is incredibly helpful, and the focus peaking is great! Can't wait to try out the 40 mega pixel high res mode

Small Camera; Big Results

Jan 7, 2018

The OM-D E-M5 Mark II is a superb mirrorless camera system that is easy to use while providing the serious photographer with a reasonably priced opportunity to make professional grade images. It is hoped that Olympus continues to provide reasonably prices OM-D cameras to both amateur and professional photographers.

Great Camera

Aug 6, 2017

Glad I chose this camera to get back into m4/3 photography. Once you master the menu layout, the camera is a joy to use. The hi-res capability is an added bonus. It's a shame the big boys of cameras don't offer anywhere the sane firmware capabilities. Add the 12-40mm f2.8 Pro lens and you have a great system.

Best ICL camera ever.

Aug 6, 2017

Best ICL camera I have owned in my 30+ years of photography. No more heavy DSLR & Lens and more importantly the IQ and other capabilities of this camera better than most DSLRs. Don't let anyone tell you that MFT sensors are inferior to full frame (unless you intend to print larger than 16X20. Who does that?)

More than expected

Apr 23, 2019

I bought this camera as an unpgrade from an OMD EM 10. And Ive been surprised for the better. You may be tempt to consider it outdated (16 Megapixel/Micro 4/3 sensor in an full frame time) but it fullfill all the needs with beautiful pictures, its a joy to shoot, and its far small and light than the others.

I love this camera

Oct 10, 2016

Originally purchased for hiking due to its size and weight, I have come to rely more and more on this camera for street and general photography. Image quality, versatility, ease of use make this camera a joy to use. Auto focus is fast but I also use manual focusing for much of my work.

Size no longer matters.

Jun 30, 2015

It's one of the best digital camera's I've used so far, including most full frame DSLR and the latest full frame mirror less. Great IQ every shot. Don't get fulled by it's small size and the micro 4/3 sensor, it will give just about any sensor out there a run for it's money.
