Olympus 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6

Jun 16, 2014

This is considered to be a 'kit' lens. Kit lenses are generally speaking not very good. Imagine my surprise when I first used this and saw the results. Nothing less than amazing - and considering the price - this has to be the best bang for the buck in M43 lenses. You give up nothing with this lens other than max aperture. Light, fast to focus, and wonderful results.

One of the best values in Micro 4/3

Aug 5, 2015

It may be cheap, but it delivers image quality well beyond other lenses in its price range or well above (just don't expect it to work well in low light). Due to its low price and weight, every Micro 4/3 user should have a copy to carry around. The 40-150 f/2.8 PRO lens may offer better image quality, I'm not sure its worth $$more to the majority of photographers.

Surprise

May 31, 2015

I admit it. I purchased this lens going by the reviews and had my doubts. Even when I got it out of the box I thought what a mistake I made. Wow, what a surprise I had when I snapped a few pictures. The pictures were surprisingly good. I don't know how it does it, but the reviews are correct. This for the price is a must lens and I am glad I took the advice.

Excellent zoom lens for the Olympus OM-D EM10 Mark II Camera

Apr 28, 2017

Excellent zoom lens for the price ($99). I bought it for the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II camera and it works/fits like a charm. Until now used it mostly for portraits, had not enough opportunity (only 1 occasion) to use it outdoors. But it does everything I expected from it, even more... The retro (silver) finish is also very attractive! Highly recommended!

Surprisingly good

May 17, 2016

I purchased this lense with no real expectations for a $99 investment. I thought it would be a nice every day kinda OK thing. I was really happy when I started playing with it. I can stand across my living room, about 15 feet or so, take a picture of the text of a paperback and have the letters crystal clear. Pretty neat. Highly recommend it, very cool.

Worth the price!

Apr 11, 2014

It probably isn't the very best long-zoom telephoto in the world. But for the price it's worth having. I seldom use long telephoto lens - too much atomostphere / haze / camera motion. But when you need it, it's nice to have. This lens is a keeper at the price. Plus it's small and easy to carry. I'll keep it until I find something measurably better.

Optical quality is good

Aug 5, 2012

Sharp lens, but, build is cheap. It has a plastic mount, well every part of it seems to be plastic other than the glass optics. The plastic is stiff, not flimsy, but there is a lot of resistance when zooming. You can feel the plastic rubbing against plastic. All the more I will use it, the lens should be fine but definitely not for full time use.

It's Decent with my GH3

Sep 10, 2015

I am a videographer and I bought this lens to go with my GH3, mostly for just a cheaper zoom option when filming. I find the image quite nice actually, but only when using a tripod and under manual focus. I'm missing the Image Stabilization found with Panasonic Lens when roaming handheld. Really not a bad purchase though, and super lightweight!

Light, handy, but slow

Apr 17, 2014

Shooting in daylight stopped down a couple of stops makes the best use of this lens. A tripod is handy if you need a slower shutter speed. I used a OM-D DM-5 with its decent image stab and was able to shoot without a tripod (see examples). It is a very light lens. Yes, it feels like it's made entirely of plastic. But everything works.

Nice light telephoto lens

Aug 5, 2015

Got this as bundled savings along with my olympus em5 mark ii camera for $. The lens gives sharp images and is very light weight. Like the colors, contrast and sharpness from this lens. For the price excellent value for money. The only issue is olympus dont supply lens hood with lens and we have to buy third party lens adapters

Solid lens, great price

Aug 7, 2016

A solid lens, of Olympus quality, at a great price. I love the small size, and the great extension to 300mm with my micro 4/3 camera. I am completely satisfied with the pictures I've taken so far, and expect to be pleased for a long time. The micro 4/3 is what I'm going to be concentrating on, rather than the traditional DSLR.

Nice lens addition

Jan 14, 2019

Recently purchased the Olympus OM-D10 Mark III. Good price from B& H, This lens is very light and works well. It comes in two color versions black or silver. I went with the black, and it looks nice. The lens hood and storage bag are not included so you would need to purchase them separately. I would recommend this to others.

Good lens for great price!

Dec 15, 2015

This telephoto lens gives good shallow depth of field for a camera that usually gives less shallow depth of field due to its micro 4/3 sensor. Image quality is great and it works super well with my Panasonic GH4. The price is also good compared to other lenses and is good for someone starting out in photography and filming.

Very fragile construction

Jul 11, 2012

The screw heads that hold the flimsy mount ring are too small and pull right through the plastic with moderate torque, which is what happened to me. They could have solved this with some $cent titanium washers, but overall it's a very poor design and they charge$repair costs to further capitalize on their design faux pas.

Fantastic telephoto lens for the price

Mar 17, 2015

The lens body may look and feel cheap because it is made of plastic (doesn't make me want to try and test its durability) but the quality of the internal glass is excellent for the price. Obviously the image quality is not as good as most of the prime lenses or the pro lenses but it's hard to ask for more at this price.

Good affordable Tele

Jan 30, 2018

I am very happy with this purchase. It is plastic, it is not super smooth in zoom action, BUT it takes very good photos and the price is right. You want to be gentle with mounting and unmounting this lens as it is plastic in construction. I would recommend this lens to anybody who does not want to pay top dollar.

Not Good,not sharp,Noise when focusing

Feb 19, 2016

This is a plastic beginners lens. The lens is noisy when trying to find focus on my G7. Not a sharp lens. I honestly took a shot at this lens based on the reviews. I really don't like the plastic mount and the optics are not good. I am returning this lens and I will purchase a better telephoto for my Panasonic G7.

great reach for a good price

Jun 28, 2015

Know that you get what you pay for. a lot of plastic, but the glass is clean and sharp. Nice range and good shallow DOF even at f5.6 when zoomed to 150mm (300mm = to FX or 35mm film). minimum focus is far away however this doesn't say anything about macro. A filter set can help close that gap. Take & Talk Pics

Great lens for the price

Mar 26, 2014

Have only had my new Olympus for a few weeks, but I am enjoying getting to the camera and the M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm lens is a nice, clean shooting performer as a basic lens. It has a nice range; clean, crisp shots and very little grain even at the high ISOs. A good starter lens for the OM-Ds or the PEN.

A great lens!

Mar 31, 2014

This lens is a fine bargain price, but produces great sharp pictures. Construction is just ok.but pictures are great. I use it on a monopod and have a great time shooting pictures with it. Lens worked well without any problems. I would not use it in a rain storm but as a good weather lens it is a winner!

A good deal, I think

Jul 24, 2017

For $99 I decided I would get this to have as back-up and/or for situations that might be dangerous to the lens (either from damage or theft). It's very plastic-y, but it works well with my OM-D E-M1. Quick to focus, pretty sharp. I just find I like having a 14-150 on the camera more than the 40-150.

very small, very light = very useful

Jan 7, 2014

This lens is so small and light you'll keep checking your pocket/ camera bag to make sure you have it. It does feel a little cheap, but the trade-off is well worth it. No issues with picture quality so far though to be fair, I haven't made huge enlargements yet. Overall, a great second lens to carry

Fantastic lens for the price!

Aug 30, 2018

I am totally blown away by the sharpness of this lens! It's a must have if you own the Panasonic LUMIX GH5. Naturally I was a bit skeptical at first; the housing is basically nothing but plastic and definitely has a cheap feel, but the image quality vastly surpassed my expectations. Buy it now.

Super range, low price

Jun 28, 2014

This lens is a good buy in my opinion. It offers a very long range (80-300mm, 35 mm equivalent). The lens behaves consistently and the price is good. While the metal finish looks nice, this lens is all plastic. That makes it very light, but does not have the feel of a nice, high-priced lens.
