excellent build quality and optics

Sep 19, 2014

I use this lens on my OMD-M10 whenever I wish to limit DOF and it has nice bokeh. It is sharp, contrasty and produces beautiful colors. Everything I've come to expect from Zuiko lenses.

Sharp, great in low light, smooth

Sep 11, 2014

Very glad I purchased this lens to use with my Oly e-PM2. 45mm is great for portraits, outdoor shooting, and it's fast. Getting better shots of the kids and sports now. All the reviews describing beautiful bokeh and great shots wide open are right on. I typically keep this lens on my camera all the time, but it's tough for close-ups, but that's not why I purchased it.

Awesome

Aug 20, 2014

This thing is awesome. Small, light, bright, and fast. AF speed is super fast, nearly instant, and is completely quiet. If I put my ear up to the lens, I MIGHT be able to hear it if I tell it to try to focus with the lens cap on. Sharpness is flat out incredible. Don't be afraid to shoot wide open, its sharper than most other brands primes are at f/4. Bokeh quality is flawless. Shoot at 1.8 and your background becomes a smooth ocean of blur. Chro... A Must for every Micro Four Thirds Bag

Jul 2, 2014

This is arguably one of the best lenses in the Micro Four Thirds format. It's small, light and pin-sharp right into the corners. It yields a pleasant Bokeh but of course has all the DOF limitations of the format (this is effecitvely a 90mm f/3.6 lens on a full frame system), but it beats just about anything else in terms of its corner to corner to sharpness. It doesn't have stabilization so it's perhaps best suited for Pen and OMD cameras from Oly... fantastic - sharp

Jun 20, 2014

a must have lens - very sharp - very nice Bokeh - very light - maybe not the best looking lens but optics super good - as it is small build quality is fine - there is no IS so one would be better of using on a Olympus with builtin body IS or the Panasonic GX7

Great lens

Jun 17, 2014

Great, small, high quality lens. Focus is super fast and quiet. Images are of high quality. I prefer prime lenses and this one is a super performer in a very small form factor. my copy takes a bit of force to mount it in the bayonet - not sure if all versions of this lens have the same issue, but it take much more force than with my Oly 17mm f1.8. It's hard to be critical of this lens, but weather sealing on these Oly primes would be a nice feature.

A baby with talent

May 30, 2014

Till I got this little light-weight baby, I was using the regular kit lens for my party photos. This lens is awesome, in fact so awesome, that a die-hard Canonian friend of mine wants to get a micro-four thirds body just so he can use it!!

Great lens!

May 20, 2014

This lens produces very sharp images, i'm loving it. Just not used to the focal lenght yet but besides that, i've been really enjoying it. It was very hard fitting it to my OMD E-M10 at first, it seems like you have to break in the mount into the camera and now it its smoother, but that is a concern on quality control, probably of the camera though

So far so good

Apr 30, 2014

Loving the weight and size of this lens. Bokeh great, shots crisp. Not found anything that don't like so far...... Bought the Vello LH-40B Dedicated Lens Hood (Silver) to go with it - but this is not worth the money - very difficult to fit - in fact have not got it to work yet!

Versatile favorite. Wonderful bokeh.

Apr 7, 2014

Aside from the kit lens (which I do not use) I own the 17mm/f1.8, 60mm/f2.8 and this lens. So far, I would have to choose this as my favorite default. It falls right in between focal lengths. I am either wandering around shooting natural/urban elements or shooting pictures of clients at the salon. I am in love with the bokeh of this lens, which really stands out. Wonderfully versatile.

Exactly what I was looking for

Mar 3, 2014

I was agonizing over which lens to buy outside of the kit lens and I am very happy with this purchase. I picked this lens because of the VALUE and the desire for a fast lens. The resulting detail has been great and the shallow depth of field makes every shot great. The uploaded image is at 1/100th f1.8 on my G6.

Nice lens

Mar 3, 2014

This is a nice lens. It's sharp and fast focusing. The only thing that bothers me about it is the plain plastic build. But the price was good and the pictures are great so it's still a keeper.

A tiny jewell

Feb 25, 2014

I laughed out loud when I took this thing out of the box. I knew it would be small but this was rediculous! However on close examination I was very taken by the quality of construction. On the camera focus was nearly instant even in low light. My test images confirm what I've read. It is an ecellent image maker. Anybody who has a Micro 4:3 camera needs this little jewel in your pocket.

Feb 11, 2014

I bought this lens primarily for portraits, but have also found it useful for fast action photography in low light, such as capturing my granddaughter in action during a recent basketball game. This lens is solidly built and focuses quickly. Image quality is very sharp.

Fixed lens for low light and portraits

Feb 3, 2014

Great in low light without breaking the bank. Really easy to use since it is a fixed lens. No zoom means you get to move your feet. If you like fixed lenses this is staple for your camera bag. Since the 35 mm focal equivalent is 90 mm it serves a great portrait lens without having to be on top of your subject. The f/1.8 allows for blurring the background for those portraits. A bit tight for indoor small rooms. A few more lenses have been added to the lineup since I bought this one that may give it a run for its money.

The Sharpest Lens I've Used Yet

Jan 11, 2014

I'm in the process of building up an Olympus 4/3 lens set for my OM-D E-M1 I gave myself for Christmas. I currently have the 12-40 2.8, the 60mm macro, the 40-150 4-5.6, and this 45mm 1.8. Now admittedly my 75mm 1.8 isn't here yet, but after some pixel peeping with the glass I have, I've concluded the 45mm 1.8 is the sharpest lens I've personally used to date. And that includes my fleet of pro nikkor lenses as well. This dinky little 45mm lens made me chuckle when I put it on my camera, but man does it deliver the goods. Get this glass. You won't regret it.

What an amazing piece of glass!

Jan 6, 2014

I must say this was my favorite Christmas present I bought myself. I absolutely love the photos that I've been taking with this lens. So many people have commented on how great the pics look, especially when used on my EM-5. WOW! I like how compact the lens is and how lightweight it is. I do wish the Olympus hood that I bought separately fit a tad more snug but overall a great piece of kit. For the price you truly cannot beat the quality. I wished I bought this sooner and it is worth every single penny spent. I love my primes!

Legendary lens for Micro Four Thirds

Dec 31, 2013

One of the great lenses for the m4/3 format. A great performer, and relatively inexpensive among the other wide-aperture m4/3 lenses.... The black version doesn't feel as plastic as the original silver, and it's miles ahead of other plastic-body Olympus lenses. Still a shame it doesn't come with a hood!
