The WA-47JRs are totally discrete, and are very versatile because you can use it in professional studios, home studios, live performances, and really anywhere. These mics sound great in vocals, acoustic guitars, acoustic bass, drums, piano, and strings. I used the WA-47JRs in a big band recording that won three Grammy Awards in February 2019. This was my first time using the WA-47JRs, and I used them in the Trombones, Trumpets and Saxophone. I simply fell in love with these mics. From that moment on, every time I record trombones, trumpets, and sax, I use my WA47JRs. I also like to use them when I record Congas, but they can be used for any instrument. This mics are excellent and will make your job so much easier. I strongly recommend them.

I've been listening to different mics for the last 6 months trying to figure out what to buy, and after listening to demo after demo after demo after demo from just about every great mic imaginable I was surprised that I kept leaning towards this one over more famous microphones like the Neumann TLM 103 or AKG 414. I even had a couple dreams about this mic. I had the budget for a much more expensive microphone, but this one...I fell in love with the sound of this one. It's got some kind of magic and sparkle to it that many mics just don't have despite their excellent sonic characteristics. When you use an Apogee pre-amp with the WA-47jr it sounds really nice. I can only imagine what a good Neve or UA pre-amp will do. The low end comes through clear, the mid-range is just right, and the top end has sparkle without being brittle. It responds to EQ very well. It doesn't handle strong percussive sounds as well as I would like, but hey - there are other mics for that. For vocals and acoustic instruments this just sounds so pretty. Build is very good - sturdy, strong, and no wiggle anywhere. It's heavier than I expected and also a little bigger than it looks in the videos. It may not be an expensive mic, but it does have that little touch of magic I was looking for. The fact that it isn't expensive at all almost turned me away from it. But hey, even the U87 retailed for just few hundred dollars when it debuted. I'll be getting a second one and giving them a try as various stereo pairs and will let you know about it in my next review. If you are looking for a non-tube large diaphragm condenser microphone that has a little "magic" in it then this is a mic to consider. ... More

I bought a pair of these about a year ago to use as piano close mics for a jazz duo album, and Ive been impressed every time Ive used them after that. Since then, Ive used these whenever I have an instrument which needs just a little more warmth and a little less brilliance (oboes, recorders, piccolos, sax players desiring a dark tone, etc.). Not only that, the WA-47jr has become my voice-over mic of choice. It suits baritone and bass voices extremely well. Think of this mic as a perfect contrast to the modern ideal female vocal mics- a round, warm tone, but with vastly better-defined highs than even the best ribbons. When someone wants a dark tone, this is it! The only issues I had with the mic were- - The default shockmounts are absolutely terrible- the thumbscrew mechanism was barely able to hold the mic in place. I understand why they included them, but the first thing I did was order of a pair of replacement mounts. - My old Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 (1st Gen) had trouble with background noise. Not sure if it was an impedance, phantom power, or other issue, but using a higher-end preamp, these work flawlessly. I guess its just however those two devices are designed doesnt quite play nice. Hands-down, this is easily my top recommendation for a LDC under $300, especially for male/low voice and acoustic instruments. Multiple polar patterns, highs that dont sound like garbage, good off-axis coloration, and solid noise performance. ... More

Warm Audio's Wa-47jr is based on the classic Neumann and Telefunken U47's which are very nice and super expensive classic microphones. At this price point there isn't a way to reproduce the sound of the classic mic's but they do share some similarities. This couldn't replace a classic U47 but it can stand on its own. What you do get is a budget priced professional microphone. These have extremely low noise and a beautiful warmth to them. As a condenser, it has a wide range of uses and I really like using them to mic a drum kit in a larger room. They work great on miking guitar amps and give some of the larger condensers a run for their money. An original U47 needs to handled very carefully and isn't something you'd want to use on a constant basis. While the WA-47jr isn't an exact replica you don't have to worry about it getting knocked around. I've dropped one, in particular, several times and I've had no issues with it yet. I would say if you are just starting out or you're working on building up your mic selection, this one is a no-brainer. Absolutely worth it. ... More

I'm using this as a vocal mic and I'm running it thru a Golden Age Pre 73 mkiii. The sound produced from this combination is stellar. It's warm, airy and cuts thru the mix with a midrange push. You can get a really nice professional sound with a little bit of processing. The WA-47jr BLK sounds great thru my Apogee Element preamps as well, but doesn't have as much weight as it does with the GAP Pre 73. Last but not least, this mic is extremely quiet. It's a great buy and I see this being my go to for years to come. ... More

I bought a pair of these because, why not at this price? They sound really good on piano, acoustic guitar, vocals and drum overheads. I wasn't thrilled with them on bass guitar amp and kick drum. Even with the pad on, it seemed like they struggle and distort a bit with very loud low frequencies that maybe an original FET 47 would have been able to handle. But I forgive them this shortcoming because the are <10% of the cost of the original, and perform beautifully on most instruments. High end is present, musical, and very creamy for a budget solid state mic. ... More

Some of the online reviews tout this mic as nothing special but I disagree. I did some head to head testing with some other mics and the WA47jr was spectacularly even across the recorded spectrum. It was uncolored and not sibilant but retained appropriate brightness on the top end. I then ran it thru a tube pre and it gained that hint of midrange color that makes a vocal track really sit forward in the mix. I could see applications for other instrumentation in the future. In addition, this thing is built like a tank.

In terms of noise, distortion, sensitivity, coloration and (as far as I could tell, polar pattern) there's nothing to fault. It's a very good LDC mic. Such high fidelity reveals everything in the recording environment too. I would have to spend a fortune on acoustic treatment and sacrifice other uses for my room before I could tolerate the sounds it produces here. Analogy: an ultra hi-res camera reveals all the things impairing the focus and contrast in your photos: defocus and motion blur, lens deficiencies, etc.

I Absolutely love this Mic. I was looking for a mic with Rich warm character and wow this is it. I have the blue sparkSL Which is a fine mic for a nice modern sound. This Mic however at least for me has a more professional sound And it works much better with the shock mount and mic stand. All in all I would definitely recommend it I don't think you can go wrong here in the price is marvelous for what you're getting

I like the sound of the Mic. I really like the Figure 8 configuration for small band recording. I love that 50's style of "all at once" recording I get with it for some projects. It makes me think about room setup and musician placement. It's good on vocals. I do recommend a channel strip or tube processor. But, it's a great mic.

I am a fan of Warm Audio since they started up. I am surprised by the excellence of this microphone, granted, you need a good Pre and EQ and it is very sensitive to placement, but I have gotten some really nice airy character, not bright just clear, for the money or beginner it is awesome. I will eventually replace it with a C414 XL II.

These are cheaper than a lot of the most commonly used tom mics like the MD421 and (obviously) the Sony c37. But it sounds every bit as good. It's also pretty dang usable on kick and snare. I docked a star because they do have a (small) bit of self noise, so may not be a good choice for quieter instruments.

I already have two mics: AKG C 214 and C 2000. This new one gives me a new color to my small collection, transparent sound, almost no noise, great natural sounding timbre... for sure, the right choice avoiding similar sound among my mics.

It's worked great for everything I've put it in front of. As other reviews may have stated, it is sensitive depending on the pattern used but with proper placement, it handles like a champ.
