The WA-251 is a large diaphragm, tube condenser microphone with three polar patterns: Cardioid, Omnidirectional, and figure of eight, that you can control from an external power supply. This microphone is perfect for vocals. It has the quality of the vintage 251s, but it also has it's own character. This mic has a beautiful balance that allows your tracks to sound clean, pristine, vivid and natural. It is simply magical because it works great in vocals but it also works great in any instrument. I have used it in flute, violin, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar so far, and the results are amazing. This microphone is great for any type of studio: From large to home studios, and with the proper placement, you can capture the most natural sound. You will not regret having this mic in your collection. The quality is amazing, and the pricing is unbeatable. ... More

I really wanted to like this mic strait out of the box but i found it some what cold, bright and harsh. It was recommended to me that i try an Russian paper and oil capacitor on the output to replace the 2.2uf cap that's in there which is clinically clean and cold. To my surprise the 1uf russian cap transformed this mic into a very usable mic. The harshness and overly brightness is gone and it is now very balanced sounding, warm and no longer cold, exactly what i was looking for. With my little upgrade i've turned a so-so mic into a really nice mic. Definitely a keeper now that will get alot of use in the future ... More

This mic sounds realy great and natural, full of details, colour and warmth. Perfect for all type of vocals, stirnged and wind instruments. One important thing, that tubes needs to warm up and new tubes is necessary to burn in, new microphone with new tube usually can take up to 48hours to burn in, only after burning in the mic will sound as it has to sound, otherwhise if tube is not burned in properly mic can sound cold, harsh and colorless. Recommend to change the stock JJ tube to good quality General Electric NOS tube, good quality GE NOS tubes are not cheap, but these tubes improves sound a lot in comparison to cheap contemporary tubes. Anyway WA-251 allready sounds very good, but with GE NOS tube it sounds extra special and lefts nothing to be desired from sound especially if you like C12 or ELEM251 sound style. Cons: no flightcase, had to buy an extra flight case for this mic. ... More

I produce singer-songwriter/folk music, so this comes with that grain of salt. - I originally bought this as a vocal mic (and it does rock at female vocals, specifically airy voices), but it's transitioned to being a pair of drum OHs. It's hard to make the top end of anything sound brittle though it, which is nice for softening cymbals. - There's a noticeable tube thickness in the lower midrange, kind of sweet. It feels too soft for some things like percussion or guitars; I wouldn't use it when I'm looking for bite or anything mid-forward. But on any source that needs a full extended top end that stays silky no matter what, it's great. - The build quality is maybe a little lacking around the power supply. ... More

This mic sounds great. So far I like how it sounds on room drums, bass cab and electric guitar. It has a very natural, open sound---but it's not boring at all. However I would strongly recommend buying a different mount for the mic-I believe this is where they cut corners. I don't think the grill could handle being dropped/falling that well.

We are a commercial studio with quite a few Neumanns in the house. The Warm WA 251 is outstanding. This is our second 251. Have used on acoustic guitar and piano. Wow! Vocals are sweet and our next session I will use on drum over heads. Be sure you have a heavy duty mic stand/boom. The 251 is heavy. Great investment.

Great microphone. Very clear. Work well with my voice and adds a bit warmth that I dont get with other mics I own.
