The Universal Audio Apollo platform is currently the gold standard for recording today. The hardware is excellent, fairly easy to use, has no latency, mic pre's are great, plenty of inputs and outputs, expandable Adat to add more inputs if you need , plus guitar High Z input and 2 headphone outs. But the real magic is the UAD's software plugin library. Basically every piece of important studio gear used on albums from the last 50 years has been reproduced in software including compressors, limiters, EQs, Pre amps, guitar & bass amps. reverbs, room modeling, analogue Tape machines, delays, etc. Most pros say these plugins are 99.5% accurate to the real hardware. But with software you can load up multiple instances of every plugin assuming you have enough processing power - which is cheap to buy used. A duo version will run out of CPU power. I use this as the hub for my mixed hardware/soft synth studio used for pop, house, and techno records, (writing, tracking, mixing, mastering). It seems to have just the right number of ins and outs for just about any project.

This is a great interface - but as your only UA Apollo you should consider the amount of DSP horsepower you get from 2 Shark Chips. We have an Apollo 16 quad so this is just for the ability to use the four unison pre's. It is perfect for that in our studio. Just needed four channels as we have a big Audient Console. UA is very very good at what they do!

I only purchased this Apollo as a second unit for the extra inputs. I'm beyond happy with it. It simply extends my system like I was hoping for. No glitches. Loving it!

The Apollo 8 is a good product. The DSP, the unison preamps are prefect for home and professional studio.

Such a great sounding interface. One of the thunderbolt ports was surprisingly loose. Wish I'd heard about that earlier but it is not a dealbreaker for the price and i/o
