This is a great microphone for recording voice. I was surprised at the difference in my voice as compared to my SM58, but the SM59 has an advantage over outdoor use. There are 3 things to be aware of: 1. Make sure you plug in the mic, lower the volume, and power up your mixer, amp, or computer before adding the 48v phantom power. Do not plug of unplug the mic when your units are hot. 2. Not for outside, it will pick up your audience, cars, planes, etc. That is where my SM58 excels over this the SP150. 3. If you are making a demo, you need a sound proof room or at least really quiet place away from from traffic, and I suggest noises cancelling head phones. If you are recording with music (midi or another track) you can use your DAW plug-ins to try to eliminate any unwanted noise. ... More

I'm using just 3 mics on my drum kit for live shows in small to midsized clubs. Kick snare and overhead is simple and covers the kit well enough to get in the FOH This is a good mic for this application but placement is critical. I've only used it a couple of times and I'm sure I'll find that sweet spot It was a little too close to the crash cymbals and they were a little loud compared to the rest of the kit. The overall sound was good from low tom to hi hats so I'm sure it would be a good mic in a studio application too but obviously it would likely be used just for cymbal overhead ... More

So far the mic has proven to be every bit as good as I'd hoped, but my experience with it is still limited, and I've used it only with two audio interfaces, never directly into a recording console. The sound is clear and well-defined, and the frequency response seems quite even rolling off in the bass end at a lower frequency than I was expecting. I've also found the included shock mount and carrying case to be very useful.

As a mobile DJ, this mic works great & has nice sound! I would suggest also to purchase a filter as well. Also, get a mic stand with a vice clamp to use the mic with. It's difficult to hold your mic, hype up the venue and play music. A wise purchase!

Nice cardioid mic with xlr output for a great price. I use it in my home studio DAW. Very clear sound. Build quality has some heft and feels good in my hands. My first time with Sterling, so far, so good.

Sound on vocals and acoustic guitar is very nice for the amazingly low price. No roll off switches here butvwgat do you expect for the price.

Picked this up on a Musicians Friend "stupid deal" of the day. SO glad I did. Great addition to my studio rig. Nothing flashy ... just good sound for a great price.
