I'm using this for low-cost surround monitoring. Though not super simple to set up, it's really solid once done. A few things to note: Mute only turns off the selected output pair. Even in surround mode, mute can't turn off all 6 channels at once, so to turn everything off, you'd hit A, Mute. B, Mute. C, Mute. It is imperative that you only have preamps 1-4 unmuted ONLY when zero-latency montitoring is needed, as they add considerable amounts of noise to the monitoring chain. Speaking of, the monitoring output is louder than I'm used to. To keep my output listenable at 79dBc (SPL ) for film work, with the digital monitor levels at 0dBFS, I had to turn my speakers down by about 9dB. I may adjust how my system is calibrated later by attenuating digitally via the dsp mixer instead of using my speaker's analog pots. I suspect this is part of why the inputs seem so noisy. Speaking of inputs, I haven't done foley-type testing on the preamps yet, but for vocals they worked fine. No noise, good levels, very clean. I suspect I'll need a separate preamp for foley work. Headphone amps are very powerful. No problems driving my HD400. The 1/8" monitoring input is really handy. I have my onboard soundcard handling all system sounds and things like Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, etc. I run that signal through a hum reducer and into the UR28M. Note that this input is analog only, and runs straight through to monitors 1/2. You cannot change this behaviour, though it does have a dedicated On/Off. A bit of hum and noise still gets through, so again, for the cleanest signal during a theatrical mix or something, I recommend turning this input off when not needed. I've mentioned noise a few times. This unit is, when set up at the defaults, QUITE noisy. Don't send it back. Take the time to find all the noise sources and squash them. It's virtually silent now that I've put in the work, and for the price I got it, it's a steal of a unit. Oh yeah. It could use a paint job. It's one of the ugliest interfaces I've seen in a while lol. It's got silver plastic trim, but the knobs are light gray, not silver, and the face is black. It just doesn't look good at all and I'm highly considering painting it. Don't forget to turn it on. You may think it's on because the power button is lit, but that just means it's receiving power! The output and mix indicators will light when the device is actually on. ... More

I track for voiceovers, vocals and acoustic instruments. I mix surround 5.1 with it. six discrete outputs into six Adam A7 active monitors. The latency free mixer and added effects in the talent's headphones is handy. Two headphone outputs. S/PDIF in for a digital mic pre/compressor, should anyone want that. iPad connectivity to control the latency free mixer. I can't imagine a better box for the money. Quite amazing.

I was pleasantly surprised at how many features they pack into this little box. The software that comes with it adds even more. Does as much (but has fewer in/outs) as my MOTU interface at home which costs twice as much. Only have 4 stars, because the headphone outs are on the rear, which is clunky. I do like that there are two separate ones with their own levels!

It keeps crash with PT9 and sometimes no sound with this box...
