That is a bold statement, but it is true. I upgraded from a Steinberg UR22 to this Sound Devices USBPre 2 and the differences are stunning. Everything about this is first rate. The head phone amp is so quite, I thought maybe it wasn't working. I no longer need by FetHead to boost my Electro Voice RE 20, the Sound Devices has more than enough phantom power. Every recording I've done with this audio interface is amazing for the lack of color it imparts compared to my Steinberg. Expensive, yes. Worth it? Absolutely.

I use SoundDevices MixPre D with my dslr's so when I needed to set up a studio for podcasting I naturally when first to SoundDevices. The USBPre2 does not dissapoint. The same high quality build and sound that I've come to expect from SoundDevices is found in the USBPre2. For podcasting it's as perfect as perfect gets. Simple to set up, easy to use, great audio.

I'm an professional audio engineer for live sound and the USB-pre 2 is used on almost every show I do. No other interface has metering like this one and the sound quality is excellent. Also, Sound Devices customer service is outstanding. I would highly recommend this piece of gear to anyone who needs rock solid performance on every show they mix. (oh, and its a great companion to Rational Acoustics Smaart Live as the loop-back feature makes measurements fast and easy)

This thing crushes my old Presonus. The mic preamps have zero audible noise and incredible gain. Over 1/2 gain the mic input starts clipping. I switched on the built-in Limiter to help with that. Maybe that means I can shell out some money on a higher impedance mic. The headphone output has great gain too - awesome for monitoring. The only slightly annoying thing is that you can't fit your finger in where the DIP switches are, so you need to use a tool (screwdriver, pen, toothpick, key, whatever). Shipping from B&H was fast and their return policy gave me confidence to try this out. ... More

The sound quality incredible. I've used this to record into Adobe Audition and also directly into the Red Weapon's mic-in and it's the best bang for the buck I've used yet.

I wanted to use this to dj from my laptop. But to do that you need 4 channels of output not just 2 as on the USBPre 2. So I returned it. But I really wished I hadn't had to; it's DtoA output and AtoD inputs are amazing, it has more ins and outs than any other device I researched (plus 2 headphone jacks), and the build quality is easily the best I've ever seen. If you only need 2 channels of output, and you want to input mics or instruments, buy this, it's the best.

Wow! This thing is so beautiful to operate. There are so many different ways you can make use of this box, and I look forward to exploring them. No complaints at all. I wish more products out there were designed this carefully.

Easy to use right out of the box. I like flexible configuration options (via dip switches), stand-alone capability, and excellent metering. The built-in headphone amplifier makes monitoring very easy. Worked flawlessly on a Windows XP 32-bit laptop, but I had some trouble with the class compliant drivers when connecting to a USB 3.0 port on a Windows 7 64-bit laptop. Installing the ASIO drivers for Windows 64-bit solved my issue and now everything is working well.

Excellent, compact, portable addition for doing interviews and other recordings right into my computer. Makes an impressive difference in the quality of the audio.

We've used the USBPre2 every day for thousands of public radio broadcasts and its performance has always been A+. It usually lives in the studio plugged optically into a TC Electronic Clarity M meter which makes a killer combo for postproduction. But I've also taken it out into the field and on international trips where it always got the job done with flexibility and ease. If you're serious about audio, this is an excellent investment.

High-end preamps and AD/DA converters powered on USB with a plethora of options for input and output. Great for computer based recording and field recording when paired with a digital recorder. Lightweight and portable. Fantastic metering.

I'm using this with a Macbook Pro Retina and Logic. Perfect! The audio quality is outstanding, no drivers, lots of in and outs, the best metering in a small interface... If you are looking for the ultimate traveling interface for studio quality 2 channel recording, this is it.

I LOVE this interface. Sounds amazing, well thought out controls on the front that do not require additional software to access. Seems like a very durable build. The meter section is outstanding. Going to be hard to go back to using other interfaces now.

Built like a tank, sounds great, no drivers needed on XP, Win7, OSX and iPad. Particularly interested in the standalone mode. I use it to provide first class preamps to consumer grade digital recorders with S/PDIF digital input.
