I am a fan of Sony wireless mics. I own two older versions of this package. I actually waited for this version to be released before purchasing an additional unit! But Sony has chosen to ignore some basics of design in this iteration. The Good: -The ability to sweep a frequency range for clear channels. -The ability to automatically sync transmitter to receiver. -Good sound, range, and clarity. The Bad: -On the receiver and beltpack transmitter, the battery compartment is now a module that must be removed. Once the module is removed, there is a rubber sheet which acts as a spacer, necessary to keep the batteries aligned, but completely unattached to anything. So, rather than having an easy-access hatch which allows you to swap batteries easily, you now have to remove the battery module, take care not to lose the rubber spacer, swap batteries, replace the rubber spacer, and hold it in place while re-attaching the module. -On the plug-on transmitter, the battery compartment does have a more traditional hatch, but the screw which secures it is TINY. The spring tension for the batteries is rather stiff, so holding the hatch closed while trying to manipulate that tiny screw is annoying. Not only is the head tiny, but so are the shaft and threads. I'll be stunned if this doesn't strip out after a dozen uses. -Menu operation is opposite for transmitter and receiver. Each enters the menu at a different option, and the sequence of options is reversed. Frustrating when you have the transmitter in one hand, the receiver in the other, and are trying to make sure everything is in alignment. -Synchronizing the units manually, by setting channels through the menu, does not work. You can set the transmitter and receiver to the same frequency, but they do not communicate. You must use the automated synchronize function, which means the units must be within 5 mm (yes, millimeters, that's not a typo) of each other. You cannot walkie-talkie to the far side of the set and tell a PA to change the frequency on the talent's transmitter; you have to get the transmitter and receiver in contact. Synopsis Sony's redesign of basic functionality seriously makes this unit more difficult to work with and more prone to expensive repair costs over its life. The small measure of technological improvement is not worth the loss of reliability and complexity of use. ... More

I wanted a new wireless mic system with frequencies that are OK to use in today's spectrum. The Sony system was a good price and had the features I wanted. This is a UHF system not a 2.4GHz system. It worked great right out of the box. It picked the first frequency and I had a clear signal with no interference. I'm not a big fan of the locking TRS connector on the microphone. I prefer the Lemo connector of the Lectrosonics. But after using the Sony Locking TRS connector I'm OK with this type of connector. The locking connector works fine with no problems. I used a Sennheiser Locking TRS connector and we had to replace them all the time and they crackled. The TRS connector needs to be inserted all the way in to a click and then the locking ring is rotated to lock the connector. Just remember to push the TRS connector all the way in before locking the ring or it won't engage. I found this UHF range to be the best. The screen is easy to see and the buttons are easy to use. This wireless mic combo uses AA batteries that are easy to find. I use rechargeable batteries and they work well. The batteries are in a removable cassette that is part of the case. They are covered with a rubber type door. It takes a little care to get the cassette back on the packs, but it's not bad. I think it works very well compared to a battery door that opens. I'm very pleased with my purchase. ... More

This is the second unit I've purchased. I opted for the combo this time so I can have my boom mics go wireless. No drop outs with the dual antennas, and good clean neutral sound to them. The units sync up beautifully. Both my units play nice with each other with the second one adroitly avoiding the operating frequency of the 1st unit. The only thing I'm not entirely happy about is the battery caddy. The ribbon contacts are don't inspire full confidence. Other than that I really like these units.

I used this for the very first time on a filming job last week. The quality of the microphone and the module are way past excellent! If you are looking for an affordable wireless system with superior quality compared to those other ones out there, then this is the one for you. This is definitely a must buy and you probably better pull the trigger fast on this one because pricing will be going up very soon!! B&H will give you the best price---hands down.

I purchased this set to replace a previous UWP set that needed to be replaced due the the 600 mhz frequency. I have only used this updated set twice so far but am very pleased with the sound quality and ease of use with this set. Transmission seems clearer than my old set and like the ability to easily scan and pair the two units to the clearest channel available.

I bought this expecting to use my Countryman B2 mic with it but it doesn't work with this unit. I have been using a Rode Film kit thinking this was an upgrade but it wasn't. The construction is sketchy and the 1/8 to XLR cable doesn't work on other systems. The battery life is about 1/2 of the Rode's as well. I'm getting another Rode.

Got these to fill in when I needed a few more channels. A nice upgrade. Lighter and smaller, new screens are nice, channels scanning is nice.

Love these, the sound is very clean and they are really easy to use and get started with. Receiver pairs nicely with the SMAD-P5 MI shoe adapter on my ancient Fs5Mk1 and my A6600. Loving this combo.
