I bought these for personal home use. After reading the reviews I expected to hear angels sing when I tried them. Not so much. Decent sound, uncomfortable on the ears, plastic all over. Awkward storage configuration. Makes me wonder what all the people giving these 4 or 5 stars were listening to previously. I don't usually write reviews like this. I have a set of Klipsch one and Able Planet noise cancelling headphones that sound just as good if not better.

I first used these cans in 1993 and have owned many others since then. Having been using Bose for several years, you learn that each maker has a trademark sound. Upon wearing the Sonys once again, I was reminded of how much other brands color the sound, and at first the Sonys seem harsh by comparison, but it's actually just the pure, unvarnished sound without too much of this or that - crucial for mixing and mastering. There are times when I don't want to be sealed off from the rest of the world, yet these provide just enough noise abatement. On top of that, they are very comfortable. I can't believe how inexpensive they are. I love them! ... More

After my 30-year old Sony MDR CD50's ear cushions became non existent, I decided to give these headphones a shot. 1. Great "flat" response 2. Ideal for music production with DAW 3. Good for recording vocal with their minimal leak 4. Very much affordable for anyone 5. Comfortable to wear for extended periods of time 6. Foldable and come with their own "gig bag" Overall, I strongly recommend these headphones - you will be very happy with their performance.

Every film set and post production facility keeps a ton of these around for a reason. Very neutral so you'll hear what your mix actually sounds like, but still clear and capable of impactful bass. When I saw B&H had them for $88 instead of the usual $100 I had to scoop up a pair and wasn't disappointed. Took off 1 star because they do get uncomfortable around the ears if I wear them for a full work day. But again, can't be beat for the price. This 100% what I'd recommend to anyone starting to seriously use audio for work. ... More

Some people will tell you that this headphone will have a flat response. Some will tell you it sounds neutral. I'm not an audio expert, but the music out of these headphones sounds great for any type of audio. I am used to my in-ear sennheisser earphones and I found that this is a big step up for listening to music, watching movies and gaming. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't mind sacrificing state of the art wireless technology and ease of mobility for some good quality music. Ideal for laptops and mobiles alike.

Bought these mainly for my recording class, though I was needing a new pair as my old ones managed to break in half. These headphones are made from metal and plastic so hopefully that won't happen again. The folding function is nice, and the threaded 1/4 adapter is a plus. All sound frequencies are crystal clear, playing guitar through these direct from the amp gives me great sound and range. My only concern is the small wires at the folding joints, which overtime I bet will be the point of failure when I lose sound in one ear. Folding joint + small wire...hmm... Other than though this is a great pair of head phones, definitely worth the money. ... More

I was really surprised at how well this headphone sounds. Deep low end response. Clear mids and highs. They are definitely the perfect pair for audio/video editing. If you're looking for a headphone to listen to your tunes on ipod - this is not the headphone for you (most likely). However if your looking for a headphone that will reveal EVERYTHING in the mix - you can't go wrong with these. In my opinion these are head and shoulders above the Senheiser HD280 Pro both in sound quality as well as comfort.

I was coming from a 15 or 20 year old set of Sony noise canceling headphones that were worn out with years of use. The new MDR-7506 phones sound good and will do the job. I mainly use them with my Zoom H6 recorder for monitoring sound during video recordings. The sheepskin ear covers work well after you stretch them enough to fit. But the case provided is much too large to fit in my audio bag and so I'm not using it. No doubt it would protect the headphones very well but I need to minimize how much I carry for location video and this mega-case is just too large. Otherwise this should be fine for what I needed in a basic headphone setup. ... More

For any field monitoring use these headphones are the way to go. I am an owner operator video DP that also subcontracts sound engineers, I have tried many other headsets and it always comes down to, well they are OK, but not as good as a set of MDR-7506's So then I ask, why not just get them in the first place? Sonically they are un-matched, and because they are closed you can easily isolated what you are recording from background. Anyone who is seriously recording sound owns a pair of MDR-7506's. The only compaint is the wire used in the curley cable is difficult to solder, so many times a repair becomes a replace. ... More

In the cinema world these headphones have become the standard for both field work and studio. The major selling point of these headphones is that they deliver a very flat response. Un-like other headphone that boost the base or even out the mids, these allow the listener to hear the exact response to their editing or mixing. In my own experience as a film maker, we use these cans both in the field, dubbing theater, and in the editing room. They deliver a great quality at a great price point.

My previous Sony headphones were studio headphones and I was unsure how much of an upgrade these new ones would be. I use them for playing my keyboard workstation. I read the reviews and decided to make the purchase not really knowing how much of an upgrade they would be. I was shocked when I heard the presence of the keyboard in these headphones. When I hit a bass note it sounded so different and deeper. I kept playing and playing and all of my songs sounded new again. For $90 what a crazy upgrade! You have to hear it to believe it. ... More

I use this for audio monitoring all day in my job as a video/audio software engineer. It's the only set of phones that I can have on all day without (mechanically) irritating my ears. It provides excellent isolation from the high noise levels in our office, has a very even frequency response, and excellent dynamic range response. I had a pair of these (company-purchased) that I used for over 6 years at my old job, and the only problem was that the pads work out. I bought a new set of pads that were velour, and even more comfortable, and I'm considering those pads again even before the new pads wear out. ... More

I purchased these headphones because I wanted a second pair of monitor headphones for my studio. The very firt thing I noticed about these headphones is that they are very lightweight and the earcups are EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE. These are very good for recording as the earcups provide a good level of sound isolation. I use these headphones for tracking and editing songs in conjuction with my ATH M50's that I use for mixing. One thing I noticed when first listening to these headphones is that the mids sounded a little exaggerated compared to my M50's. But overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and I highly recommend these to anyone whose looking for a good pair of headphones for recording. ... More

i use these headphones to listen to my i-pod and do music assignments on Smart Music(music program). the sound is amazing, and the headphones muffle noise but don't completely block it out. making it useful for anyone who needs your attention. the fact that these headphones can also fold into a small bag is great for storage, and for finding them easily. the only small problem is the length of the cord, whenever i'm listening to my i-pod i have to stuff the cord in a pocket otherwise i can trip on it.

These are pretty awesome. I've been seeing these on sets and in other settings for years and I've always loved them. I took way too long to upgrade to these. And considering how long I kept my lesser quality headphones, I would imagine these will last me forever. The audio quality is great; they produce a nice flat quality across frequencies to help you filter sounds. Additionally, they're very comfortable.

I have used the smaller MDR-7502 indoors and outdoors for years. When it was time to replace it, I bought this MDR-7506. It sounds so much better, more accurate and is comfortable to wear. It also feels a bit sturdier and has a stronger cable which is good because I hope these fine headphones will last. I use these for video meetings, sound mixing, video recording and editing and listening to music. They are sensitive enough to be sufficiently loud when attached to the 3.5mm audio out jack of laptops and other equipment, but they really shine with a headphone amp or audio device that has a good headphone amp built in. ... I'm a sound engineer and a musician and I have been listening to everything I can on these headphones since 1999. Got some in college and they'd get used afew hours every day. For my ridiculous amount of wear and tear they last about 2-4 years (I think that's amazing). Whether I'm playing bass in the live room with the drummer or having to edit tracks and not bug anyone, these are the only headphones I reach for. I've probably had 5-7 pairs and love them and will keep getting them/replacing them if they break or blow up (and they take abuse pretty well), I hope Sony never discontinues or changes them. For anyone using them casually I'm sure they'd last a long time. ... More

This was a replacement for a pair of Sony earphones that a piece of plastic broke on. I decided to go with a professional upgrade of Sony earphones and am glad that I did. The sound is much better and the comfort of the pads much nicer then any earphones that I have previously worn. This was one time where paying extra money was well worth the investment. Very pleased with the earphones & Carrying Case Kit seems well made also.

While i am a music addict, this is my first investment into quality headphones. i enjoy a wide range of music with a strong focus on massage/yoga/spiritual to downtempo/IDM/ambient. i wanted these headphones because i listen to such artists as Shpongle, Bluetech, Desert Dwellers, Gaudi, Thievery, and so forth. These headphones are great for picking up the detail and movement of the music. While it took a little getting used to the size and feel on my ears, they keep getting more comfortable. They were definitely worth the investment. B&H had the best price by the way ;-}

I've been using the MDR-7506 headphones for televison audio and studio recording since 2000. The MDR 7506 are great because: the sound quality is amazing (lots of low end and a lot of clarity in the high end). Also the 7506 are ultra tough they've been dropped, thrown, kicked, they endured such a beating and they always keep working perfectly. The other great feature is that the 7506 headphones are so comfortable that one can wear them for 12 hours straight or more without any discomfort. Overall The 7506 is a great product. The standard of the industry.
