My camera is a Sony Alpha II, which is a very good mirrorless dslr, that takes movies as well. Of course the built in mic is minimal. I tried it out for real at a house concert, with serious audio equipment, and an audience of about 50. The two mics were both pointed at the artist, so it was not really sterio. The sound quality was quite presentable on the external stereo speakers driven from my laptop. My intention is iTunes and Facebook use, not making studio quality audio so it clearly does the job for me.

Used this at a crazy loud concert on the A6500 an got amazing sound back. Better than the feed from the old sound board sent to my other camera. A must have for sound. Love the cable-free nature of Sony sound equipment.

Doesn't fit in the active interface shoe on my HDR-PJ580. Apparently there are different ai shoes on different models of video cameras. Be careful and check before you purchase.

I ran a sound test with and without on You Tube. I received all positive feedback on the sound quality of this little microphone over the built-in's on the AX100. Just wish Sony was a little smarter about the location on camera where they place the smart shoe and how someone grips the camera.

When product was received, found that it would not work on my less 1 year old camcorder's accessory shoe. Had to use external wiring to connect to camcorder. Sony ... said that adapters were available but this was not true. Microphone works well for isolating noise/sounds that the camcorders 5.1 microphone picks up.

I use this with a sony hdr-pj430 camcorder, and the microphone is ok. It's a bit of an improvement over the on board mic, but it's not a huge improvement, unfortunately. But then again, it costs way less than some other mics out there, so as usual, you get what you pay for!

Without it, my a6000 recorded the piano sound as if it the piano is being played somewhere in a huge, but you are not sure where. With the microphone, you can tell it is directly in front of you. Highly recommended for a6000. I still need to try an record it in a huge room and with microphone angled out - pointing/covering at the piano.

This is a great accessory. It is compact so it fits in the small camera bag I use with the Sony AX33 camera. The quality is fine.

I use it with the Sony RX10 when I do interviews. So far with it small footprint and light weight it's just what I need.

I've been using this mic for a few years now on my FDR-AX100. The slightest breeze overwhelms this unit, even with the included cover installed. Yes, the sound quality, as expected, is much better than the built-in microphone on my now dated AX100, but even the lightest flow of air will destroy your audio. The low-cut helps, but I can only recommend if you are shooting indoor, and not around any type of airflow.

If you don't have an additional audio recording system, this is an option for you. Anywhere says which models you can connect directly without using the stereo output cable. Im using it with with my Sony A58 and works well (and without any additional cable) but still I hear the noise of the autofocus motors when recording in a silent place. Anyway is a good product if you have $ bucks in your pocket.

So far it seems to work. I had limited options for the camera I own. It is a little clumsy to apply to the shoe, and it has a little give which should help absorb bumps or fast panning. I wish it had a light to let me know it was active, however.

This mic has a better midrange tone than the EQ midrange of my Sony camera (which is rather muddy). It can also help reduce the distracting sound of the camera lens focus operation, etc. What it doesn't have is any improvement in the bass range. I couldn't resist this purchase due to the low cost but high quality recording is lacking.

I had one of these and used it for events but just ordered another because it's so good that my other mics don't compare and plus I want the sound to match between two cameras. This isn't the mic for every job, but for ambient sound recorded digitally, there's nothing better.

I found that the "hot shoe" on my Sony RX10 111 did not work, but neither does the inbuilt microphone, which is why I purchased this one. However the exterior microphone jack cable between the microphone and camera works perfectly, which was the other option, and would have been the case with any other brand that I got.

At first I was sad when I discovered how limited the microphone options for my camera were. But, having gotten it, I like it. It gets the job done. Small, portable, easy to take on and off. Big difference in sound quality over the camera microphone. Not the best quality sound, but one would not expect that from this little microphone.

It adds to the overall performance of my FDR-AX100, although unclear how much.. Still waiting on an opportunity to do a comparison with and without under controled conditions.
