I purchased this unit and a DLX Universal Shock Mount with camerca shoe for use on my Panasonic AG-HMC 70 HD camcorder. I purchased this unit after purchasing a Sennheiser MK 400 stereo shotgun mike. The Sennheiser could not stand up to the wear and tear of recording among a group of news who were all elbows who managed to rip the microphone from its shock mount twice. The ECM-674 produces way better sound. However, I am forced on many occasions to use the camera's built in attenuators because the unit is picking up way too much sound. However, this is a great advantage when the source is soft with low sound levels. Works well with either a AA battery or with phatom power provided by camera. You definitely need the shock mount with camera shoe. In the wind, the microphone picks up wind noise. The wind screen helps, but it is not perfect. ... More

Using the standard in camera microphonone on a sony gives you great sound coverage, but if you are shooting in a crowded room, reception hall or are far from the subject the ECM-674/9X is a must have. I used it to shoot a wedding this weekend and don't know how I ever did without it. Of course you'd still need the wireless for other parts of the event, but do yourself, and your costumers a favor, and get one of these. If you are shooting outside, be sure to use the wind buffer even if is not windy.

I used this mic on a Sony ex1r, shooting on the roof of an apartment in NY during a very windy day. The mic did an amazing job. When I watched the footage I was sure the actors were wearing wireless mics. The mic is just superb.

This microphone is leagues above the one that came with my Sony V1U and always provides very high quality audio. The audio is so rich that it's easy to separate out background sound with noise reduction filters and still retain a high quality. I use this mic on a boom, mounted to the camera, even in the office for voice recording. It is fantastic.

When used with Rycote softie, this mic works very well, both on location in the bush and surprisingly in a studio situation. Solidly made and the rubber mount flange fits the Sony PMW 200, there is no operational sounds picked up during filming. I would say a good allrounder for the price.

This is one of THE BEST short shotgun mics for the price. Especially if you already have Sony gear...It works well with other Sony equipment. Better than mics twice the price.

I use this microphone with the UTX P1 transmitter (wireless)on a Sony Z5 video camera. No phantom power needed. Excellent for speeches recording, school plays etc. No hissing noise even when you boost the signal. Perform excellent on-camera as well

use it for professional work. great sound quality and noise cancelation. best with sony equipments. specially with EX3. the size is bit smaller so you need to fix the rubber supplied with some double sided tap. but if sony can increase the size of this mic. that be perfect

My 416 is in the shop, so needed a backup asap. The Sony 674 fits the budget, sounds good, is small enough to work as a camera mic or alternately on a boom. Excellent value.

Needed a backup and this one fills the bill nicely. Sounds great, works on pole or as camera-mount. AA or phantom keeps it flexible for location work.

... It is not possible to assemble and install the camera. I think that it was defective. Be careful with the choice!
