I use this microphone for sit down interviews mostly, and connect a longer XLR cable. It works really well and the quality is what you would expect for a sub $$piece of equipment. It sounds very clear.

I have used this so far for an interview indoors and echo is too a minimum and it is really easy to clip the mic onto the subject and included gear. I have also used it outdoors on a fairly windy day while doing a performance involving pouring water. Wind noise was heavily reduced do to the included windscreen. And being omnidirectional, the mic was able to clearly pick up my voice over the wind while also capturing clear sound of the water being poured about 2 feet from the mic. For anyone just getting into this kind of gear I think this is a great option. ... More

Using this mic with a Sony VX2000 didn't capture great audio. Had to increase the gain in FCP to the max and it was still too low. A bit more research led me to the DXA-2T XLR adapter. Running the mic through this adapter, attached to my camcorder, made all the difference. Audio is now captured perfectly. This is a really nice mic.

I purchased two of these microphones for an important corporate video shoot which had two people on camera. The microphones were flawless! I had amazing audio and the client was extremely impressed.

Classic Sony microphones for broadcast. These are medium priced and have great sound. Excellent for interviews and talk shows. You can't go wrong with Sony. Great service from B & H!

You can't go wrong with a Sony ECM 44B. Sounds great, compact, durable, all the goods. The only con is that this cannot be used with phantum power. Has to have a battery so pack extra when in the field. Batteries last forever in one of these but always carry a spare.

I just did a test on the movo mic compared to this mic on my tascam dr-40. I made a video and did a test side by side. Now I was expecting sony to sound better. When I was editing in my video editor I would say it sounded like 10% better than the cheap 40.00 movo mic. But when I uploaded the video to youtube I could not tell the difference at all. It might be like 1% tops. So from what I have seen so far if someone is picking this for youtube thinking the sound will sound better then a 40.00 mic they are mistaken. Youtube compression made them both sound the same. I will be sending this back ... More

Have used these mics for years and always come back for me if a cable gets damaged in use or I need to add to my kit. Also recommend all of the time to others. Safe purchase. Sound is great and they come in a nice, protective carrying case. Great mics.

Havent used my purchase but very familiar with this product from use in television at various stations. Quality product. It goes without saying but it is easy to do and I have seen it multiple times, make sure you take the battery out. We sometimes get so used to phantom power that we forget a battery is in there and it doesnt get used for a while and we all know what happens to a battery over time.

Sounds fantastic for a lav mic and especially for its price range. I always go for a shotgun or hypercardioid mic whenever possible, but if you're going to use a lav, this is the one to get! Don't bother with wireless lavs when you can use these and it sounds as good as a wireless setup that would cost you over a grand.

I've been using this model mic for years. Are there better mics out there? I'm sure there probably are, but I've never had any complaints with these. The sound is great, the construction is solid, and it's the most reliable piece of equipment I have. I've never had one go bad as rough as I use them. I'm sure someday I'll buy another, and what better recommendation could you have than that?

I've been using this mic for about 25 years. I own three of them. They are great for interviews and talk shows. I even use them to mic instruments and they do a pretty good job. Just understand that these are omni directional. There's not a better affordable mic lav mic that I am aware of than this mic.

This is a great mic for the price. I use it for basic interviews in relatively quiet spaces (I have not used it outside or in a crowd). It suits these needs perfectly. The cable is short and you will need an extender. Haven't had it long enough to know the range of the AA battery life, but I don't see a problem there either so long as you've got a spare. The mic itself is also pretty average-sized for a lav. Overall a good purchase.

Yes the 77-B is better, but the sound quality of this little guy is probably top of the line for the price. I use it conjunction with a Beachtek *passive* adapter and the mic-level mini plug input on my Panasonic AG-HMC-40. Low hiss, though it doesn't put out quite a strong enough signal for the miniplug input on my Tascam DR-05, so be aware of this should you want to interfacs it over non-XLR into a recorder.

We bought two of these four months ago for a weekly TV news program and other projects and thus far have no complaints. The get constant use and seem very well built. They sound great: clear, nice tonal range, low background noise. We've used them connected to an external recorder as well as plugged directly into cameras (using long XLR cables.) They come with nice cases and the clips are all-metal. If you're okay with battery only mics these are a great choice.

This is a terrific mic. I used them for years in the broadcast industry, now I have them for my production company. Great value, and performance, durable construction. It's all win win with the SONY ECM 44B. The only thing that has annoyed me is the cable, nice and thin - but with the huge XLR connector and battery crib, it tends to kink up when winding up.

I've had a few issues with this model just eventually giving out, but it lasts several years and puts up with a good amount of wear and tear. Not a super long cord, so if you're doing a camera setup more than 6-7 feet away, you may want to invest in an XLR extender to give yourself some extra slack.
