Used it for guitar and vocals, handled both like a champ, loud and quiet, even when my vocalist got a bit excited and literally started smashing his mouth against the mic while recording. Beautiful clear tone. I even A/B compared it with a vocal performance by the same singer from a prior take using a MUCH more expensive microphone and it totally stands up. I don't think you could get much better for the price. Definitely needs some preamp boost on the way in, though.

This mic is awesome. It is heavy and durable. I see the weight as a pro not a con, but you will need a sturdy stand or boom. I have not used it much yet but the sound clarity is much better than my other mics: SM58, sm57, senheiser e35 (dynamic mics) and my blue en.core 300 (condenser). i have it directly connected to a focusrite 2 channel interface with the input turned all the way up. my little presonus tube pre is not enough to drive this mic properly - get a good quality preamp, or be prepared to turn input channels all the way up ... This microphone is an unstoppable force. Anything you throw at it, it can handle with ease and make it sound incredible. I upgraded to this from an AT2020 looking for a richer sound and just overall better build quality/ mic angles, and I could not be happier. I definitely do suggest a Cloudlifter or Fethead, as this mic needs some serious preamp to reduce noise floor. Outside of that though, this mic is a masterpiece and is second to none.

So I was searching for a second mic to add to my AT4040 for vocals when I came across this puppy. I didn't know very much about dynamic mics but decided to give it a shot after reading so many great reviews. I purchased the mic along with the Cloulifter CL-1 and took it home. I hooked everything up to my Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 and right from the start the mic sounded great. But wait...I added the preamp Air funtion and LOOKOUT! THIS THING SOUNDS AMAZING!!! I love this mic on vocals! Extremely happy I bought it!

This is the best Mic for the price for broadcast and podcast applications. I have used RE20 and Sennheiser MD421 and the SM7b is my favorite. It has a sweet low end proximity bump that is great. ...My order arrived before 10am the next day!

This is a great microphone for capturing a dark smooth vocal tone or beefy kick drum. Well known for the role it played in capturing Michael Jackson's voice on the Thriller album. The only issue is that it requires a lot of gain. Most people that I know successfully employing this mic on softer vocals also utilize a cloudlifter in the signal path or have a pre with particularly high gain on duty. Personally, I prefer an EV RE20 or Heil PR40 in most circumstances but it still gets decent use when the signal is loud enough.

This mic kind of rules for vocals! Vocals sound the way they should through this. Not too boomy. No crazy sibilance. Just a perfectly clear, warm and full vocal. It takes SPL like no other, yet is delicate AF with more nuanced singers. I'm just using my Apollo Twin X, usually with the stock UA 610 or the NEVE 1084. Almost no EQ. Usually an 1176, LA2A, or a distressor UA emulation for harder tracks. I keep kicking myself for waiting this long to dig into this mic. Zero Regrets. FYI, I'll be posting some of my mic collection on Reverb shortly. ... More

Warm and Flat are positive things when recording vocals, guitars etc. Most of what we record is post-processed so I look for the best overall performance in a mic (or any tool) and this one delivers just that. I find we can eq it to get the type of feel we are going for as all the dynamic range is there to play with. There are better mics on the market but they are 4x the price. Mixed with a quality preamp this is an amazing addition to any serious recording project.

Seriously, this mic is superior than any mic guitar center sells for less than a grand. I spent several days researching and asking my fellow producers what they would suggest. This is a solid mic for recording vocals and percussion. I'm very happy...keep in mind you'll want some nice pre-amp though.

I am one of those new transplants that had seen this mic in a lot of videos and podcasts, and decided to shamelessly mimic. This mic sounds absolutely fantastic and is the most premium built microphone I have ever handled. The presence boost makes such a huge difference out of the box and I am constantly being complimented on my audio quality now. I am very glad I bought this mic. Well worth the investment.

While I'm not a professional audio engineer (I'm a cameraman and editor), but as far as I can tell this package is great. I'm starting to get into voiceover and podcasting, and this mic gives a clean, strong signal into my Rode Padcaster. It's good at filtering out excess noise. I'm amazed by the quality.

Microphone lives up to its name and reputation. Awesome capture ability, suppresses the plosions, and ambient noise very well. The quality was really really good. I was disappointed in the arm. I would have rather foregone the arm and bought a separate one. The extension is flimsy, the action in the arm is extremely stiff and the built in xlr cable seems to me to problematic should it fail, which would sink the purpose of the embedded cable/arm for me.

Clearly this microphone has some serious reputation. If you watch Youtube carefully, you can see this mic everywhere from vocal performances to radio broadcasters. A lot of people may be skeptical because of the price, but this microphone is a monster...so much power and ability. Matched with the right preamps and interfaces, this mic can put every mic in its price range to shame.

I replaced my MXL770 with the Sm7b with the cloud lifter and now my voice booth is useless. I can just sit there behind my desk and record podcasts and voice overs. It pick up no sound apart from my voice. I am extremely happy with this microphone.

The Mighty SM7B. One of the great all time vocal mics for sure. I use this thing all the time. It's a great mic to have in the arsenal. If I were only going to own one mic, it might be this one.

I travel with these for clients' podcast recordings. Very generous mic that sounds good with most voices. Very warm/flat. I slightly prefer the RE20 to the Shure SM7b for the more controlled proximity effect, but the RE20 can sound harsh on some voices. The SM7b is more natural sounding - which gives it a slightly better tone for podcasts IMO. My clients tend to like that this mic purely because they've seen it used by very prominent podcasters/influencers.

I got this to improve the voiceovers on my YouTube videos, but it also works well for video calls. Requires a little more hardware than a simple USB microphone, but I feel like it's an investment that I should be able to hold on to for years to come. It's pretty heavy, so make sure you have a good stand for it! It also requires a lot of amplification to pick up the audio, but paired with a good audio interface it can really shine.

I've been wanting one of these for some time now, and am certainly not disappointed! It's fairly heavy for a mic, so be sure to use it on boom stands carefully. Also, it's got a low output, being a dynamic, so a good pre with clean gain is a must.

I've been revamping my sound booth and without a doubt this mic was the way to go. The tech hasn't changed in decades...for good reason. The vocals are extremely good and what I wanted most was to eliminate any ambient sounds. This mic almost completely eliminated everything, even before sound proofing. I highly recommend this piece of tech for anyone needing superior vocals for podcasts or general voice work. Extremely happy with my purchase.
