These are the finest mics you can buy for micing amps and drums. They focus on the close-in sound and ignore the surrounding noises. Perfect choice for live gigs and especially for recording studios!!! I own 2 of these and trust me they are well built! In a pinch you can also use them for vocals but these are best for micing drums and amps!

If you don't already know about the 57, you are a serious novice. It's indestructible and sounds great on tons of things - I've used 57's for guitar amps, drums, vocals, and everything else. I had to get a second one because I want to use one on a guitar cab and another on a snare drum at the same time. I've used and abused the heck out of my old one, which is still going strong after about 8 years. The 57 is ideally for close micing loud sources, but can be used for anything if it sounds good to you. ... More

I use this mic to mic a guitar amp for live music. It captures every aspect of my tone (lows, mids and highs) very well! I run dual amps and I have been trying to find a mic that would recreate the exact tone of my amps through a sound board. This mic definitely delivers, now I have 2.

This microphone was built to be used and used for a long, long time. It is well constructed in a solid metal housing, ensuring years of reliable use. There is definitely a reason why this mic has been used all over the world for decades. I use it on my amps and on drums, especially the top head of a snare, to get a great sound every time. It is worth getting a few of these to put in your mic locker because rest assured they will consistently give you a great sound for a long time.

If you want to use these three items together, it will not work. The mic and the mic rim mount work great. The isolation shield works with a boom stand...not the rim mount in this kit. The shield attaches behind the mic clip and is fixed in position. Therefore, if you use it with the mount in this kit, it will point either straight up or straight down. Just not sure why these items are being sold together as a kit.

My daily mic I've used for instruments and vocals has been the Audio Technica AT4040. It's a great mic, but something was missing from my guitar's recording; warmth. The AT4040 is excellent in detail, but lacks any real characteristic in sound. It's a microphone doing a microphone's job. I decided I'd spring for a Shure SM57 for my instrumental needs. It blew my expectations away. The Shure makes up for the sparkle in warmth. Even so, the third of price-tag really helps the SM57. Though the two mics sound different, one does not sound "worse" than the other. The quality is still ever-present in the SM57's sound. It would easily pass in recording whatever you're doing. ... I have been using mics on every drum and running thru a mixer(no overheads for cymbals). Everyone else in the band is trying to simplify as my set-up got my complicated and time consuming. At our last gig I used 4 mics on my kit. One on my kick, one on my hi-hat and these 2 SM57's set up as overheads. This not only picked up my cymbals, but my toms as well. I am no longer using my mixer, but go directly into the board. We have roadies for loading/unloading, but I still like to do my own set-up. It's all about simplifying this process. Other than the mic stands being a bit flimsy, I am very satisfied. Thanks! ... More

After getting burned by two other (less expensive) vendors who sold me counterfeit SM57 microphones, I decided to pay full price at B&H. I'm a drummer and I use these mics in my basement studio to record myself, to analyze my practice sessions and progress. In the 40 years I've been playing, I've never heard myself in such great quality. I use two SM57 mics as room mics, to record in stereo with a focusrite digital interface recording onto a computer. The SM57s work exceptionally well suspended from the ceiling or on stands 3ft away and pointed at either side of my drum kit. I'm getting zero clipping. A great drum mic for individual drums or as a room mic. ... More

This has always been a good standard all purpose mic for instrumensts, amps, certain drums and vocalists like Tom Petty. It is very affordable and never lets me down. Avoid the risk of feedback when stage is not friendly enough for condensors.

This little mic has drastically changed my voice overs. For the past few months, I've been recording voice overs for videos with the shotgun microphone I use for field interviews but was not pleased with the ambient noise it picked up. Well, I am pleased to say that those days are behind me! The SM57 delivers gorgeous voice quality even in rooms that aren't ideal for recording. quite pleased

For everyday use, and general purpose recording, it's hard to beat the Shure SM-57. It's built well, and holds up under abuse. Just a note, this model has no on-off switch, but for my needs, that's fine. The mic and cable are great. The stand is very light weight, and will not hold up under constant use. But then what do you want, B&H is pretty much tossing the stand in for free with this kit. The stand works fine for holding the mic, just be careful and gentle with it. If you want a stand for performance situations, spring for a real mic stand. ... More

Really, this mic is fantastic! I own a few different mics and this is definitely the most used in my home studio. I use it for anything from drums to guitar to vocal. Some of my favorite tracks that I've recorded have been produced with this mic rather than my fairly more expensive condensers. And not only is the sound great, it's built like a rock. I've owned mine for a good 3 or 4 years and have taken it with me to school in my fraternity house and around the campus and it has experienced its fair share of abuse, yet it still sounds the great. ... This microphone was purchased for church applications: recording and amplification of instruments and occasional voice applications. It is well-constructed and solid. I like the feel and robustness. I would not use this for pipe organ or grand piano music, but it is absolutely great for acoustic guitar and other instruments without significant low bass. Highly recommended.I like not having to fear an occasional drop or bump, something that is likely to happen in church use.

I own three of these mics, and have built a studio around them. The SM-57 can truely be used to record ANY instrument! The most practical applications are guitar and bass amps, horns, and drums. I was originally skeptical about recording vocals with this, but I recently recorded a vocal track with it, and was astounded by the quality. The SM-57 is also one of the most durable mics on the market. I have dropped mine numerous times, and the sound quality has never been compromised. Truely a work horse in the studio and on the stage.

Shure A reliable workhorse onstage and in the studio. One of the most popular professional instrument/vocal microphones of all time. This dynamic mic is a reliable, natural-sounding performer, night after night. Its durable, bulletproof design stands up to road travel and abuse. Perfectly at home in the studio too. Its wide frequency response (40Hz-15kHz) and tight cardioid polar pattern are ideal for close-in miking of speakers.

I'm using SM57 for recording music or speech etc. in a small hall with setting mic stands in front of speakers. For a video shooter like me, audio quality is really important. In the case of live recording, getting a line signal from a PA mixer is ideal, however, sometimes it is better to stand SM57 in front of speakers, because the balance of signal and surrounding noise is awesome, so it can be heard more naturally than a PA line. SM57 and SM58 are the most reliable mics. I don't need to say so anymore. Of course, the audio quality is super clear and the metal body is so stable. The mic stand and cable including this bundle are also enough stable for this price. ... More

Nobody will ever dislike this mic. There will be no bad reviews. It's a shame that this one is one number away from the 58 (not worth all the hype). This is the standard snare/guitar cab/instrumental mic. Every now and then I see people singing on it, which makes me say something like, "Look! That guy's singing on a 57!!" And singing is something it can handle, especially if you want to take advantage of the proximity effect which is a big factor in this mic. If you use mics for anything, you need at least one of these. They are also invincible, so if money is tight you can get a bunch of used ones too. ... More

The need to heighten the level of the Snare when using brushes created the need to check out the SM57. I play drums for the Church and its drum set needed to have a fuller sound in the vast air space of this large Catholic Church. The SM57 worked there so I decided to try it with my set. I gave it 4 stars because when the SM57was placed under the cymbals and near the drums ,at practice, it performed very well. I need to try it out on an actual gig later this coming month before I can give it 5 stars. The mic also enhances the cymbal sounds ,an added plus. ... More

What can you say about the SM57 that hasn't already been said? Still a staple every studio and live stage should have on-hand. Just a great all-around, rugged mic you can put in front of nearly anything and it will sound fairly true. Preferred for stage use, and if you have a sound engineer who knows what they're doing, you can capture an incredible performance with nothing more than a couple SM57s.
