I saw some videos and reviews on you tube and I became convinced . These cats took harmonica mikes to another level by thinking outside of the box. No more heavy and clunky harmonica microphones that feed back all the time. You have to practically hold it next to your amp for it too feedback. Really ergonomic too, these guys must have asked harp players what they wanted. I also like the fact that they make 2 models ( Mad Cat & Mad Dog ) ,because harmonica microphones are not one size fits all. I chose the " mad dog " for that deep Chicago blues sound. I love the fact that it's made in the U.S.A. , and every single part down to the box it came in. I bought this from GUITAR CENTER because they were the first big box chain store to carry it. I shouldn't have to wait for a year or two for a store to decide to carry a product. They should look out for me, and GUITAR CENTER did just that . I'm very satisfied, and can't wait to see what products this company manufactures next . ... More

I purchased the Shaker MadCat mic several months ago and absolutely love it. In the interest of assembling a gigging case I thought I should have a back-up mic. I learned that Shaker has made a version II of the MadCat of sorts and named it the MadDog. The mic element is a bit larger in diameter and Shaker did some other tweeking and customizing the thing and it's awesome, too. I think Shaker has created the perfect (my opinion) harp mic and there is not much of anything out there as ergonomically set-up as this one. Fits perfect in smaller hands or large. Sound is exactly what I like for blues harmonica. Shaker makes these babies in Arkansas and quality is top-notch! Glad Guitar Center carries this brand! ... More

This mic is the right size and very light weight. The volume control is smoothe and feedback is minimal. It projects every nuance of your playing style and is made by an outfit that really cares about it's products.

The size of the mic is great to be able to use your hands while playing however the mic is very quiet. I purchased an IMT to boost the impedance as suggested by Shaker to work with my Lone Wolf Alpha Dog pedal through an amp it it didn't change things whatsoever (supposed to change the mic to "hot and driven"). Fortunately Guitar center who sold me the IMT after I purchased the mic online was very accommodating and let me return everything. It's shame because the mic size and lack of feedback was nice however being very quiet and having no bite compared to my 20 year old Shure Bullet mic I decided to give up on this mic and return it. I'll keep looking for a mic that lets you form and air cup with your hands but has more volume and drive. ... More

This one is larger, hand sounds are harder, but still doable. played through a bugera v22, and this is my go to setup. I prefer this MIC over the usual bullet, and prefer non held mics over mics, but this one is right.

The manufacturer's overview of the product is completely fair. This is a great product, fits perfectly with the hand and the harmonica and produces an unbelievable level of control over the sound, tone, effects, dynamics and technique.

Had a Mad Dog and Mad Cat. With light use both failed within six months. Getting a response from the company was next to impossible. Twice they came back still not working. Finally put them both in the trash.
