The Sennheiser MKH-50 is another industry standard mic that I've come across. This little guy has been used on such Hollywood Film/TV productions as The Social Network, The Dark Knight, and AMC's Breaking Bad. The mic has a range of 40Hz to 20kHz and is part of the Supercardioid category of microphones. I first used this mic on an indie feature called The Odd Way Home with fellow sound mixer Eddie Santiago. Since this indie feature was very dialogue driven, the MKH50 was the perfect dialogue microphone for the various interior conditions we had for the indie production. The size and dynamic audio range is what makes it a very impressive mic. It's a little bigger than the Oktava MK-012 in size but not by much. I've heard both the modified Oktava and the MKH50 side by side and I can say with confidence that the MKH50 is the better microphone. The Oktava, with its modification, sounds very creamy and smooth but the MKH50 leans more toward dark and rich sounding vocals. By dark, I mean the low end of a person's voice stays intact without the HIs and MIDs actually being overwhelmed by the LOWs. If you need a high-middle ground between the Oktava MK-012, AT4053, and the Schoeps CMC641G price ranges, then you won't be disappointed with this little guy. If this mic is out of your price range, then a modified Oktava or AT4053 can be just as effective. Again, find your own SWEET SPOT. There may be disagreements with this statement, but sound is very subjective and open to interpretation by the recordist and mixer. ... More

I am a professional sound recordist and mostly work film, documentary, and tv. I bought this mic to supplement my supercardiod shotgun mic and have been very pleased with the results. It has a slightly wider pickup pattern meaning I can easily pick up conversations between two people with both being in the sweet spot and also seems to great reach. All in all a great sounding and sturdy mic, a perfect choice for the rigors of on location sound recording.

The MKH 50 is a great mic for close interior dialog work, however it is not transparent. It's got a midrange boost that I personally like. You have to be relatively on axis if you are booming with this but it's got a great sweet spot when you're on. I recently used this on a feature shoot and it was a true workhorse. I also appreciate the fact that it's small and light for those longer scenes. I wouldn't use this outside or in situation where you can't get in close enough. I'd go with a shotgun in those instances.

VERY durable, even in Costa Rican wet-season humidity. Very full and natural sounding mic, I MUCH prefer it to any kind of shotgun indoors. Does have a very tight pattern and a little bit less kindness when you get off-axis than the Schoeps 41, BUT it also costs about half as much, and with ok placement it sounds pretty spectacular. Also includes an excellent and compact shock mount!

I had been using good quality, entry level mic's for some time and decided it was time to step up and try the next level. I would say that the MKH 50 is like tasting your first glass of REALLY good wine. It's not twice as good as what you had before, and you pay proportionally more for each smaller increase in quality, but once you've had it, you really don't want to go back. This mic sounds great, nuanced, clean, and very responsive over a wide range of input sound volumes. A great addition to my kit.

This mic has such great presence on a boom indoors. It rejects bounce and room noise and really goes to the voice. Prior to this mic I was using a shotgun on the boom for indoor work, nite and day with this MKH 50.

The best mic I've owned to date. I'm not an audio expert, but an enthusiast. I needed a mic for dialogue indoors and I sprung for the staple MKH 50. It was an excellent decision. Testing it next to high end shotgun mics it blows them away. Of course, shotguns really shine in outdoor environments so that isn't a knock against shotguns, rather an endorsement for the MKH 50 when used indoors. I've tested it outdoors as well, and with proper wind protection it performs amazingly well. All in all, it's a 5 Star mic that will last many years.

We use this mic for recording vocals on a boompole during client interviews and dialogue from narrative projects. We were using the Rode NTG-3 shotgun, which is still a great mic, but the tone and richness from the Sennheiser is noticeably superior. The barrel of the MKH-50 is realy short, only 6, so use the supplier mic holder that come with the mic.Given the price, a sturdier box might help protect this mic better.Need custom foam and furries for the short barrel also.

I bought this to complement my Sennheiser 416, which I'd been using indoors, but is better suited for outdoor use. The MKH-50 is incredibly rich sounding with no self noise at all. I'm pairing it with a Sound Devices SD633, which has dead silent preamps. This combo will get you pristine audio quality. The mic has a non traditional shape, but it comes with its own shock mount, so it's okay. Love the small size, too. Don't hesitate on this one.

This is a great mic, just finished a a Quick ENG run and gun scenario that was probably one of the worst situations a sound guy could have, concrete floors whit people talking over one another. This mike makes it all smooth as silk, the final files were perfect no adjustments needed. Just what you want in a mic. Highly reccoment this mic to anyone that has a 416 shotgun, this is the perfect dialogue mic...

Got this to compliment my MKH 416 shotgun mic. did extensive tests recording with Sound Device 633. Great Foley recording, sounded like I was on a Foley stage very dry. Primarily got for production dialogue and it works great for that purpose, has a bit of color but I quite like what it gives, a touch of bass and masculinity, as some have said a bit of an action movie dialogue sound with male voices however when I recorded female adult and child it still gave great tone. Love it!

I put this mic right to use out of the box. After recording with 3 different industry standard mics throughout the day, the MHK50 outshone the others. Dialog was clearer and drew more attention, making the interview them most memorable of the presentation. This mic is used in many feature films with dramatic effect. It's super durable, has nice pad/low cut switches and it's a Sennheiser.

This mic sounds great, has incredibly low self noise, and is more/less immune to RF interference. The only downside is handling noise, I had to spend $250 on the Cinela shockmount (completely worth it) to solve this.

I use this mic for indoor interviews and absolutely love it. Way better than using a shotgun indoors. They used this mic for interior dialogue in The Dark Knight, enough said.

I have the intent of just buying the MKH50 by itself. But after seeing this bundle I had to get it. Great value. Especially someone like me who is transitioning from a Shotgun mic (MKH416) to a more indoor friendly microphone. Everything in the kit was much better quality then I expected. Clip feels secure even with the odd shape of the MKH50. The Super Softie was much bigger then expected really well built.

Great impedance. Easy to use and set up whether live or with a blimp. Output is great for all professional applications.

This mic sounds awsome for indoor dialogue and documentary work where you need to boom small groups on the fly and at the same time. I have an NTG-3 that I like for its reach and directionality but it's best outside away from reflective walls.

I used this mic over 50 times before I could afford it. Now I have one, and I'll use it until it breaks, and then I will buy another. The kit is a good deal, I'm not the hugest fan of the super softie, but it does help in certain situations. Rycote shock mounts rule.

It's a great microphone. It's sensitive and so does pickup noise from the side. But it sounds amazing. Paired with DBX 286 it's sounds amazing. I use for Teams calls and people say it sound crystal clear. It's light and so had to add weight to my mic stand Rode 90.

Was using my Shoeps Blue shotgun for interviews during COVID. The 50 really is a nice option. A better pattern and nice sound. I bought another for two camera sit down interviews.
