Solid build, easy to set up, gorgeous audio, reliable, decent battery life...Im currently using it on set for my short film, very impressed with the quality coming out of it. If you take the time to learn how to boom right, this thing is well worth the money. Theres a reason its so popular, definitely recommended. I have a Rode Videomic Pro also, and while that is certainly great for situations where Im running both video and audio by myself, the MKE 600 leaves the Videomic in the dust when it comes to sound quality. Perfect, in my opinion, for indie filmmaking. ... More

I liked this mic so much I bought two of them. The sound quality and sensitivity is excellent. I use these to record wildlife. I use two connected to my Tascam PCM recorder which then connects to my DSLR to record a separate audio track for my video recordings. I do not get any hollow sounds and the mics are super directional. I typically use these two mics mounted onto a 6 hotshoe rail and aim as needed to preserve the best stereo separation. They are lightweight and come with a nice cordura carrying case. However I wish the case was large enough to enclose the included foam wind screens. That should in no way sway you from this purchase. The mics are top quality and you will be pleased with their performance. ... More

I bought this Sennheiser mic for shooting video with my Canon DSLR - EOS 60D - and must say that, as expected from Sennheiser, a company that has been manufacturing microphones for almost 70 years, it performs very well/easily, allowing the user to focus attention elsewhere. It runs on either phantom power or a single, AA battery, which provides approximately 800 hours of performance, while its auto-off feature assures conservation of the same. This mic also features a frequency-cut mode, which helps reduce low-end boom during windy, outdoor recording. So far, I've yet to experience any downside while using this mic, other than the overall limitations in frequency response that is characteristic of any shotgun microphone of this type. ... More

I have several mics in my home studio... including a Neumann TLM 102, a Shure KSM32, and a Levitt LCT 640. For my voice buying the Sennheiser MKE 600 means I now have all the bases covered. It gives me a crisp and tightly focused option when I'm going for vocal tracks that really "cut through." I watched several shootouts between Sennheiser's MKH 416 and the MKE 600 and frankly I couldn't hear much difference. And getting Sennheiser quality for half the price... for me it was a no brainer.

I will not get into the technical aspects of this mic because I am not qualified to, but this has been a great microphone for us for some time now. We use it as a shotgun on our cameras as well as attached to a fishpole. The Auray Fur Windshield is a must and does a great job in high wind situations. I recently was on a 14,000 foot peak and it was gusting. We got great audio. I recommend this mic.

I capture sound this weekend with a fair bit of wind and the sound came out great. Clear, the wind was acceptable. I could hear clear voices from a decent distance away.

Purchased in late Sept 2015. The purchase included both camera mic mount rubber rings plus a separate shockmount kit to mount onto the shoe mount as an accessory. Both pro fittings. Used to record ambient sound inside a house of worship with the Canon XF205 video camera supplying 48v Phantom power. Very crisp and clean for 95% of what event, ENG, RnG sound capture needs are. Used auto and manual and the mic worked perfect with both settings. Added balanced house mix to another channel and it sounded great together. Just like you were in the room. Looking forward to nature recording near water (ocean or river). Full audible frequency range sensitivity with a nice pleasing tone. I also like the fact that the supplied foam windshield does not advertise the brand name! Nice and black - simple and clean. ... More

Audio experts agree that to get the best performance a microphone should be boomed. That sounds good but is often impractical. Hence, this "real world" review. I had been using a cardioid mic and was not satisfied. You can't always boom the mic, or use multiple mics. For those situations where you need to pick up all the sound in front of the camera, but reject the rest, a super-cardioid is needed and for that, this mic excels. The audio is clean and rich. In a hard room where my previous mic would fail miserably, this mic performs beyond my hopes. The other reviews are on target. The audio is superb. I'm using this with the battery and the XLR to 3.5 mm converter. I wish it could turn on and off with the camera, but that is the only shortcoming I see. ... More

To be honest, I'm a pro photographer but a video novice. However, I do know what I want the audio to my videos to sound like. The Sennheiser has been giving the quality control I was l looking for. It was a toss up between the Rode NTG4+, but I don't like the idea of have a battery you can't remove. That and the difference in volume of reviews due to release dates. Out of the box, I paired it up with the Zoom H6. After a some time spent fiddling with placement of the mic coupled with the optimum settings, the MKE 600 gave me clean full sound while drowning out surrounding ambient. I did however buy the Rode Blimp for the mic which has a the Rycote shock mount system. Though I have yet to use the blimp, the shock mount system is a brilliant pairing with the MKE 600. ... More

I wanted to up my audio game, but I knew I couldn't afford the industry standard Sennheiser MKH-416. This was the next best thing at 1/3 of the price. Sounds super clear, works well, has a durable metal construction, and satisfies my needs. Bottom line: YES, I would recommend this product.

In making a choice between high miss in this range there is this one and the Rode. The Sennheiser is a little more crisp and also matches the Lavs I have which are the Sanken COs-11's. The Mic comes with a nice foam screen and a shock mount/mic holder. The holder being shock mounted woks on camera ,perfect size. I have the Rycote Softie, which completes the setup. So for interior dialogue on a boom I use a Sennheiser ME-64 and K-6 capsule with the Rycote Lyre suspension, and softie 5mm. The suspension is interchangeable, between the two mics. typically using the MKE-600 in exterior situations on the boom. the 2 match perfectly . ... More

Compact, nice build quality, isolated pickup pattern. But this doesn't have a very loud signal, even when powered. There's a well-known issue pairing this with a low-gain recorder such as the Zoom H4N, which you can google about. So make sure you have a good quality recorder that can give you enough gain for a decent recording.

I purchase the MKE 600 for a new camcorder where it works was advertised - no issues - it is a solid mic. I also found this mic to work well for sound work. I normally use a Heil PR40 for voice when recording short videos at my computer. The Heil is great except you need to be quite close to the mic to get it's best performance. The MEK 600 can be placed out of my way and still give great sound.

As a low-budget no-budget one-person-band videographer, I appreciate the Sennheiser MKE 600 for providing me quality audio in many shooting situations in return for a relatively moderate cost. My long background in TV news on both sides of the camera informs my current run-and-gun unscripted shooting style. Often there isn't time to switch from mic to mic as circumstances dictate. So this is where the MKE 600 shines - either on a boom or mounted on the camera. I depend on this mic to deal with fast-changing situations and it always delivers. The Sennheiser brand name stands for high quality and good value. Look up workhorse in the dictionary and you may find a picture of the Sennheiser MKE 600. ... More

For a relatively low-cost shotgun from Sennheiser, this mic performs amazingly well. Great off-axis rejection, clear, crisp vocal response that helps keep dialog present in a dense audio mix, and battery operation for use with systems that dont provide phantom power. Nothing else at this price point comes close.

For the budget I had, this is the best mic I could find based on other reviews and suggestions. I've used this for interview style shoots and even for Facebook live , along with my Tascam DR60. Nice crisp sound and the option to use a AA battery or phantom power is really great if you don't have the phantom power available. Went back and forth between this and other Rode brand mics. I have a bit of loyalty to the Sennheiser brand as we use E835s for our podcast. The mic cuts a lot of background noise out, really picking up the subject right in front of the mic, but does not totally remove all of it. ... More

There are very few mics, designed for this application which do so well at this price point. I hate saying for the price in a review, but let's face it, we have limits. I would always tend to spend much more on mics. With this, I didn't need to. It performs admirably, and stand up to mics costing 3 to 4 times as much. With a little care in setup, and a eye on clean editing in posts, it works well, and I can afford a matched pair instead of just one. Very helpful. ss

I bought this after the wire on my Rode VideoMic Pro got a short from a very small drop to the ground. The wire on the Rode is a fatal flaw of that mic. The MKE600 is just a little more money, and it is far superior and more versatile. The hotshoe camera mount (included) works great too, but get the rubber support if you want to use a boompole. The MKE600 is the best value for low budget film makers right now.
