Where do I start - I literally have nothing good to say about this microphone. I'm astonished a reputable company like Sennheiser can sell something this low a standard, for the same price as an ME2. Here's a rough breakdown as to why this is a terrible product:The size: This mic is unacceptably large for professional use. In normal situations you need to hide lapel mics away so as not to be seen (especially for filming) - good luck doing that with this mic. I can only assume they call it the me-4 because it's 4 times larger than it needs to be. The quality: Now I would probably be able to forgive the size if the quality were superior to the ME2, but that just isn't the case. It's terrible. The build quality is cheap (cheapy plastic shell) and the pickup pattern and tonal range are a disaster. To add insult to injury the clip that it comes with is also far too large, made of cheap plastic, and leaves you with an uncertain feeling of whether or not it will last the whole event. The price: Genuinely, I have bought better quality $ lapel mics from @ than this. I'm really not sure how Sennheiser can justify the price here, which is equivalent to an ME2 (a far superior microphone).Overall, it's a disgrace this product ever made it to market, and that Sennheiser are now shipping these as standard with their latest transmitter/receiver packs. Very disappointing. ... More

The very worse microphone I have ever used in my life. As a professional sound engineer I have come across countless types of microphones of all shapes and sizes, and the ME4 is simply an unusable microphone. It has an awful frequency response, so it sounds awful no matter what you do with it, and at 40mV/Pa it's waaaay too sensitive for its type. Avoid using it with a PA system at all costs because all you will get is tons of loud feedback. Another problem with this microphone is that it's cardioid, as opposed to omni-directional which is the norm for lavalier microphones. This means that you won't get a good reception of the source if the microphone is not well aimed at it. If you really have to, use this microphone in a controlled environment without any nearby speakers, like a studio. Otherwise stay away from this and save your money for a better quality microphone. ... More

Deserved a 5 star except the Sennheiser engineers should be fired for mating it with this mic clip! Buy the mic, throw the clip away and get a MZQ222 clip. The mic has very good background noise rejection as well as sound quality & sensitivity. The mic IS a little large in diameter and the foam windscreen is HUGE but fits well and won't fall off. If you really need the windscreen try to find a smaller, thinner one. MORE ON THE CLIP: Worst mic clip ever. The plastic clip that holds the mic wire will break the first time you push the wire into it so be careful. With the center pivot spring, half the clip will stick out to the side where it catches on everything and is very noisy & floppy! Can't believe Sennheiser would do this. ... More

I've been using the ME2 mics for years. Recently bought 5 Evolution G3 systems and they all came with ME4 mics. They are worse than the ME2 in every way. The ME4 is muddy. It's very mid heavy. It's much more work to get an acceptable EQ than the ME2. The ME4 is much more prone to pops, even with the supplied foam windscreen. Then there's the clip. The clip supplied with the ME4 is terrible. It's a big clunky thing with shallow jaws that make it difficult to get a solid bite on anything. There's no room to loop the wire through when clipping it to a lapel (to easily conceal the wire). It's the kind of clip I'd expect on a ten dollar mic. I really tried to give the ME4 mics a chance, but I found myself constantly unhappy with the mic performance and annoyed with the clip. I ended up buying ME2s to replace them. Ahhhh....What a relief. ... More

I use Sennheiser G3s all the time with the ME-2 which come standard with those kits. I needed to rent a couple more Sennheiser G3s for a job and incorrectly assumed that they would come with ME-2s...INSTEAD it came with ME-4s. What a joke, I cant believe Sennheiser sells these as a pro mic. First of all, the mic is WAY to large to use as a professional lapel mic. Second the freq response is all over the map, the cable noise is completely unacceptable, and the plastic clip is a freaking joke. Im stunned Sennheiser sells these...completely useless in a professional environment. Dont waste your money on these. Buy the ME-2s. ... More

This is the exact replacement mic for the Sennheiser EW series lapel mics. It is cardioid, and has excellent pickup. My only complaint is that the clip is not that great (it is the same clip that comes with the kit when you by it).

This microphone may work on a dead person, but anything living-not so much. You want noise? You want booming noise? Just run your finger ever so slightly along the cheap, thin cable ... accidental purchase, returning for the ME 2.

I've used this mic with Sennheiser's SK-100 bodypack and EK-100 receiver. The audio clarity is good however it as noted in another review, it is very heavy on the mid-range.

Sennheiser is a top shelf product in general, however, the thing with these mics is that they are absurdly sensitive; and with wind noise, regardless of windscreens or not, you just can't use them. Most of our stuff is filmed on location outside, and these things were pretty much useless. If you're going to be inside, they probably work great. If you plan on filming outside at all, go with the other Sennheiser with a smaller head; they are super!

Ive been a long time fan from Senheiser and have always used their product with great adimiration and respect. I was shocked when this lavalier mic came with thr g3 transmitter. Huge lavalier, always getting rustling sounds. It seems like a cheap product overall, cant even believe this is from Senheiser...

This is an adequate lavalier mic for indoor use. Positives: It has good sound quality Negatives: It does pick up background and wind noise outdoors. The clip is not static and allows the mic to swivel in use causing unwanted noise.

As a microphone this is great. But, if your trying to hide it, it is very difficult because of it's relatively large round shape. Flat microphones are a much easier to hide under clothing. And like the other review says, the clip that comes with it is horrible.

I guess one cannot expect too much for the money... only seems to work with Sennheiser TX. The clip has been redesigned, but still flimsy and unclear exactly how they intend for it to be used. It is now a metal clip that is a bit too thin and bendable. If you have more money to spend on this sort of gear, there are far better choices. If you don't, it will get you by.

Although a bit larger than the mic that came with the the EW 100, this mic sounds great. I'm not sure why everyone is complaining about the construction of the clip, yes one piece is plastic, but it allows for the mic to be easily switched from one side to the other, and does come with an extra plastic component. No problems so far!

Use for the pastor at weddings. Since a lot of weddings are outside, I would highly recommend the wind screen. Good clean sound.

This is a quality mic, that reproduces good sound quality. My only beef with it is that it picks up wind noise too easy. It's rarely a problem, but if you happen to be speaking near a ceiling fan, it there may be some slight wind noise. Overall though, this is still a very good mic, even with that minor complaint.

We use our Sennheiser ME4 Lavalier Mic for church services every Sunday. We meet in a school gym and needed a Mic that would not pick up noise from the airconditioning units. It has exceeded our expectations with clarity and quality of sound. We also appreciated the prompt and courteous service that we received from B&H.

This unit is a replacement for a unit we have had for a lot of years. Since we are using this with a Sennheiser pack we though it best to go with the original. We will be using to supplement our. Current wireless inventory. Always happy with Sennheiser and expect no less with this unit.
