I recently purchased this omnidirectional microphone for our social media team. They were having a lot of issues recording good sound and training them in the proper use of professional ENG gear just wasn't an option. This mic is the right combination of size, weight and versatility. Its internal wind filter an omnidirectional recording allows an interviewer a lot of leeway in terms of mic placement. Even if its windy out, and the microphone is moving around from subject to subject this handheld rode will still capture you top notch sound.

So I bought this to be used when recording interviews with my ZOOM H4n Voice Recorder (another gem of a product for reporters or other audio professionals). Connected via XLR cable, this device is the perfect size and weight to carry around the town and use for interviews or other recordings. RODE is my go-to brand when it comes to audio equipment. I pretty much don't leave home without this fine device if I am going to be covering any kind of event. My perfect rating is only of the microphone. The pop-guard attachment that comes with it is simply a plastic flap that serves very little purpose aside from a cosmetic attachment, but it does help as a place to attach your company/website's logo when interview on screen. The bag also has a faulty zipper. My slider broke the first day I used it. The bag itself does serve to carry both the mic and a 6-foot XLR cable. ... More

I have only used it at a couple of events so far, but this mic is turning out to be a solid investment in my audio kit. Pros - built-in pop filter that really works - good rejection of wind noise - easy to us for people who have never held a mic before - low handling noise - seems very well made so far - very aggressive pricing: you can't do better for the money Cons - that ridiculous mic flag: just toss it out when you buy this thing - says Rode clearly in all my shots. I'm not advertising for you to free. Hard to Greek out on a grey microphone - included bag is ok, but could hold five of these mics. Why so big? For that mic flag nobody will use? ... More

I paired this mic with a senn ew100 g3 transmitter. The performance is outstanding! I couldn't be happier. The build quality is really good to, super durable and strong. I feel I will have this mic for many years without problems.

As advertised. I was in a fast turn around situation and did not have time to mess with syncing external audio...I wired this directly to my Canon 7D (shoulder rig) and ended up with flawless audio over 10 hours / 2 days of shooting. The vocals are rich and clear, and the background (noisy ambient retail store) was present but pushed way back. Exactly what I would have hoped. The quality of the vocals was superior to wireless lav mics I have used in the past.

The Rode Reporter has very good sound even when held as far as a foot from the speaker's mouth. The sound is rich and full. The long handle is helpful in interviews. The strange and nontraditional microphone flag is somewhat intimidating but does not have to be used. If you do use it, read the simple instruction on how to remove it.

Got the mic mostly for the aesthetic for a red carpet interview scenario. And while I would never ever have anyone sing into this microphone, for legibility and speech as a priority... I am truly super impressed that it sounds as clear as it does considering how much noise there was in the background. I mean, this is what this microphone was built to do, but I was still impressed by its performance. Most reviews I saw have echo-y environments to demonstrate the mic, but the real place would be a very crowded room or party in which this microphone cuts straight through, even at a couple feet from the speaker. For this specific job would definitely recommend. If over the next few years of use I find new challenges, I'll update. ... More

I tried it first with my DR-40 and could not record a good level without a lot of hiss, so I bought the tiny DR-10X which is supposed to be ideal for this mic, but I have to set the DR-10X to max gain then filter out hiss later in Audacity software. Mic can also work with Rodelink Filmmaker wireless lav kit w/ XLR to TRS miniplug cable into transmitter.

The price is right for this microphone! From a radio stringer that regularly interviews people, this mic has great voice response. Picks up minimal background noise. It's impossible for your P's to pop using this mic.

Only four stars right now because I haven't fully tested it out yet! I've been eying this mic for years and finally got it because it gives me a longer handle. This is HUGE when interviewing subjects these days, given physical distancing and mask-wearing. The feel of the mic can only be described as delicious, lol! I plan to use it for my trip to the Winter Olympics so I might have more to add after I test it in the field.

Doesn't need power, easy to use. Practical shape, no sound of hand friction. Plug in a DSRL, there is the current noise , you need an adapter cable to match .

I bought this mic for use in an upcoming Kickstarter video and podcast and it was perfect. Was filming down by the beach with the ocean, wind, and boats. The mic sounded amazing and did a wonderful job of isolating the human voice among it all. If you are looking for an affordable mic for on-the-fly interviews, this is a great choice!

Ive used this mic for several red carpet interviews and the sound quality is fantastic! It's long enough to add mic flags with out taking away from your ability to hold or handle the mic. Rode mics are always a good purchase!

I connect this mic to sound devices 633, the sound is good, but signal is not hot. I have to push 633 harder. The finishing is not very good. After a few times of using, I got two bumped dots around the RODE logo.

I tried to connect it to the Sennheiser EW handheld transmitter and it wobbled - not a tight, secure fit. Plus the noise from my hand on the mic was unbearable to me. I don't care how much of an expert the reporter has to be if he or she can't even move her hand mic without generating tons of noise. Ended up exchanging it for the Sennheiser hand mic which, of course, fits perfectly with their wireless system.
