I bought this mic to use for recording indoor dialogue in a low budget indie film production that will soon commence. I have performed several tests with this mic using a Tascam DR-40 Protable Recorder. The sound quality on this thing is amazing! Crisp and clear! The only thing that I can see that people wouldn't like about this mic is probably the weight. At the end of a boom pole it can get tiring after a while, but that doesn't bother me. If you are not using a dedicated preamp with this, you may have to raise the volume a bit in post; however the signal to noise ratio is so good that it wouldn't effect the quality. This is probably the best microphone I've ever purchased for such a low price! ... More

I use this mic. for recording classical guitar in combination with a soundcraft compact 4 mixer and Sony Soundforge. This mic is crystalclear. It is also a very sensitive mic. This makes it an ideal mic for acoustic instruments. You could place the mic in front of an amp, but it isn't suited for that. In that case you should use a shure sm57. The rode is the best affordable mic for acoustic instruments out there.

I'm using this microphone to shoot video interviews with two people at once. I position the microphone between them and it's cardioid pattern picks up both of them just fine. Before I got this NT-3 cardioid I was using my NTG-2 shotgun for these interviews and I couldn't get the audio right. Now it's a cinch. I also like that it has an On/Off switch which should help to conserve battery life. The only drawback is that it's bigger and heavier than my shotgun mic.

Rode delivers with the NT3, crisp clear audio with low noise. I use it for recording DSLR dialogue and the cardioid pattern means I don't have to be super critical with aiming it. I use Neutrik connectors which do lock into the NT3, just give them a push, for a secure XLR connection. I mount it into an Audio Technica AT8415 shock mount, if it slips a bit in the vertical, I wrap a rubber band around the mic shaft to offer some purchase to the shock mount bands, keeps it secure. 4 stars due to weight, 5 stars for sound. ... This microphone is a great workhorse mic around the studio. It works great for guitars, drum overheads, vocals, horns, and lots of other things. It is very sensitive so you get a lot of detail, but be careful around loud extra noises. It tends to pick up lots of room noises since it is so sensitve. It also performs very well as a field recording mic in a stereo pair or just mono. That is what I bought this mic for originally but I just keep finding more uses for it. Good buy at a great price.

This is my first mic for my home recording studio. I am just starting out while trying to keep the cost down. After recording a few tracks of acoustic guitar and vocals I could not believe my ears. This mic is unbelievable!

This microphone sounds great for this price point. I use as a boom mic for interviews with Nikon D7000 and a Tascam DR-60D.

Just got this mic and it sounds fantastic! Battery power option pairs perfectly with my Fishman Loudbox Mini, which does not supply phantom power... Having this mic increases my ability to achieve the volume the loud box is capable of but that most dynamic mics can't provide with the onboard mic pre. Did I mention it sounds awesome. Win for sound and portability.

I have been after a good clear micrphone for a long time, and with the NT3 i was not dissapointed! As soon as i got it plugged in the sound was deliciously crisp and clear. The only downside to the product is sometimes it isnt clear when it is switched on, the light only flashes once if its not low on battery, which can be odd. But still you get used to it! Great mic!

Purchased in 1999 this mic still works after all these years. It didn't get much use, as I only used it to record acoustic guitar. Nevertheless, it can do a lot more than just acoustic recording. Build quality is great, sound is excellent, a wide dynamic range, and frequency response. With small condensers mic placement is critical, and the NT3 is a lot more forgiving than my AKG C1000s.

A very nice mic. I am not an audiophile but this mic sounds excellent to me. Very low noise and a very high peaking threshold. Outstanding build quality if a bit heavy. Love it.

I purchase this Rode NT3 about 2 years ago from B&H. I'm very pleased with this mic. Is perfect a specialy for acoustic guitar.

GREAT mic, especially for the price. Gives me a nice, fat, natural sound for my acoustic guitars, along with great definition in the highs. Excellent side/rear rejection. Compares favorably to older Neumann small-diaphragm condensers IMHO.

From my research, this was the mic to have for indoor use. I've only used it once so far, but it sounds good. 9V battery power is nice, although I use 48v from my MixPre-D and it sounds very clear. Great for the price. Heavy.

I got this mic to interview a friends pre-wedding interview in our home. I'm a novice by audio standards but I must say I was very delighted in the sound quality this mic provided. Was also glad it uses 9V battery or phantom power.

This is my 2nd NT3, I bought this to have two similar mics as drum overheads. These mics are perfect for OH’s because they are bright and need no eq.

Plain and simple, this mic sounds amazing! Used it on an interview (indoors) for a short documentary film. Sounded amazing and film-like! My friend, also a pro shooter, loved it, too!!

I bought this mic from the limited list of battery powered condenser microphones and it fits the bill nicely. I use it for field recording and sampling/sound design. Works like a charm.
