At long last, I have a USB mic which makes my other Rode NTK mic a pricey and cumbersome footnote in audio progress. The NT-USB is lightweight, easily portable, sounds fantastic, and the on-board popkiller is a nice touch. It's an all in one mic that eliminates the need for a mixer and external power source. No more flimsy, obsolete cables or huge cases and power boxes to lug around. Why didn't they make this 10 years ago? It had some initial problems right out of the gate working with Adobe Audition CS6, causing a bizarre fluttering sound for seemingly no reason at all, even during absolute silence, but for reasons unknown to me, that problem completely disappeared after giving it some time with Adobe Audition 5.5 and a different computer. Works perfectly as it should now. The two dials and headphone jack on the right side provide all I could ever want or need out of mic. Love it and never looking back. ... More

I have accumulated half a dozen USB mics for making podcasts and screencasts. All of them are acceptable, but two really rise to the top. And at the very top is the Rode NT USB. The sound quality is (subjectively) far more pleasing to me than any of my other mics. The controls are large and conveniently located. It WILL pick up any sort of bumps or vibrations, so a shock mount is a must. I recommend the Rode shockmount that has a round, built-in pop filter. If your desk is made of granite and you don't need a shock mount, this microphone has a curved, detachable pop filter than works well. For me, the best setup is with a short, hefty desktop mic stand and the Rode shock mount/filter setup. ... More

This mic has an easy set-up, just plug and play. I'm using it mainly for Zoom lectures to my university classes during the pandemic. The lectures are recorded and I can easily see the improvement in both sound quality and reduction of ambient noise between the classes using the Rode NT-USB and those just using my laptop's mic. I recorded a few songs playing my guitar and singing and the sound quality was excellent. I think this would be a great mic for podcasters as well as singer songwriters needing basic tracks to share their songs with others or a band. I have not tried creating a YouTube video or a Facebook live event, but I'm sure that it would work very well for livestreaming. I haven't used the studio arm yet as my work set up doesn't need it, but I opened it and checked it out. It has a nice range and is easy to set up and is very maneuverable. The headphones are great; however, at times I detect a change in volume. They are comfy and keep out the background noise. ... More

When I decided I would start recording, I researched what I would need for months. I crawled the web, talked to musicians and sound engineers, and read countless reviews for dozens of usb mics before deciding to get this one. While some of my other options were much cheaper, I am extremely happy with the RDE NT-USB. I sing with a lot of brightness and ping, and it handled that masterfully. I recorded my wife's quartet as well, and the sound didn't get tinny at all. It's a worthwhile investment that I highly recommend. It will be used extensively and will be well-loved for years to come. ... More

Bought two of these after seeing some reviews on YouTube. We were deciding between the Blue Yeti and the Rode. Couldn't be happier, the sounds is amazing and the noise isolation is incredible. No need for any baffling. The extra $20 over the Yeti was worth every penny. This package comes with the table top stand and a 20' USB cable, 20', very useful. I am no audio pro, but for the training videos we have been putting together (10 hours total produced video) they have worked extremely well, no gain, no post required on any of the audio. The two of us doing the videos sat 5 feet from each other (literally), no noise isolation, just facing each other. The built in monitor with noise cancelling headphones made for really easy recording as well. Couldn't be happier with these, well work the money ... More

I am currently (as many are) working from home but a part of my job requires me to do so under regular conditions as well. I'm using this microphone connected to my Surface pro 7 as part of a setup to record video trainings, I do live versions as well. I also use it on zoom and do a web based podcast/radio show. I previously was against using a usb mic and used a dynamic mic, a mic amp, a phantom power supply and an audio interface. This mic is smaller than the old mic and takes the place of all that equipment and sounds just as good. Great build quality and works terrific on my iPad as well with the 'camera adapter' and used it to record some voice over stuff for a video. Quality is high and sounds much warmer than other usb mics. The deal stand is not ideal but ok in a pinch. Neat idea but too short for most uses unless you angle up and have it towards the edge of table/desk. So very worth the price in every way. ... More

The Rode NT-USB with a custom pop shield, makes it easy to set up a remote online moderator location, while still having a professional sounding microphone. It is a quality microphone for the price, and looks great in front of moderators and guests for those programs with cameras running. I'm not embarrrased having this microphone in front of me when someone else might have a real studio Neumann u87 mic! What I like - * A quality built cardioid capsule in a USB driven microphone. (No hissing or popping sounds and low background pick-up) * Built-in standard 3.5 mm jack for headphones - loud enough and with low noise from the microphone itself * No phantom power supply needed * Standard threads (works on booms, stands, or on the included stand) What I would like changed in the future * Still thinking - It's been an awesome microphone! ... This is a really nice simple microphone to have for recording your voice for podcasts or other reasons, but you'll want to make sure you have a stand or arm to put it on so it's close to your mouth. Using the included stand on a table isn't sufficient for good quality. If you're like me and want to use this for web calls during the pandemic, it can work, but a few tips. Again, make sure it's close to your mouth, if you leave it on the table it picks up so much noise it'll drive anyone in the meeting with you crazy. Also, Microsoft Teams doesn't seem to work with this mic or external microphones in general, so I'd be wary of picking up any external mic if you're mainly using Teams. If you mainly use Zoom you'll be fine, but you might have to play with the settings (I haven't been able to try WebEx). ... More

I call it the Mighty Mini. I am a big fan of RODE audio equipment and this recent addition to my working collection fit right in with the family of RODE mics I bought from B&H over the years. It looks and feels solid and works like a dream. It records clean and well and seems to let the me I am as a voice come through beautifully.

I've used the NT-USB for years as the main mic when recording my podcast and love the response and how it reacts to my vocal range. The NT-USB Mini was purchased as a companion to my current mic and my main mic for handling internet calls on a daily basis. It has not disappointed in quality. The response is different than the older model and not as warm. I find myself not needing to turn on bass reduction or cutting highs, so it feels more tuned to the vocal ranges. The built in pop filter is a nice addition in the Mini. It does take some getting used to since it does seem to require you to stay closer to the mic than traditional setups with an added filter. So far it has been great! ... More

I purchased this microphone specifically for grand piano and voice auditions. For a single mic at the side of the piano, with lid fully open, mic about mid-way in height, and pointing slightly down toward the strings, it performs marvelously: the pickup field seems to capture everything from treble to bass strings, and from soft to forte with the sustain pedal down, its sensitivity is impressive. For voice, its absence of color is appreciated. As expected, it mates with GarageBand seamlessly and responds as an audio device to gain settings. The one deficiency is that when recording while using the monitoring feature (ie, headphones connected to the mic), the monitored channel bleeds through into the mic channel being recorded. I don't know if this is something that is user-adjustable in the mic, or expected. ... More

I've been using this microphone package to produce narration for audio books for about 3 weeks, and I was so happy with it that I bought another for a different location that I produce at. The audio is clean and crisp and the reflection filter helps keep down echo and ambient room noise. The only small things I wish were different are that I wish the reflection filter were taller or could be mounted differently because it doesn't provide as much coverage on the microphone as I'd like, and I wish the headphones were a little bigger to provide better over-ear coverage. Overall, this is a great value and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good podcasting or other verbal recording microphone. ... More

I happen to say as a newbie podcaster I love this mic. It's definitely a step up from the plug and play iphone/ipad mics that I initially purchased to save money. IT's totally worth the upgrade for sound quality, the ease of use, the fact it comes with a pop shield and it's USB. It's probably not the best for traveling but it does come with a case and it's totally user friendly. Thanks to the guy in the PRO audio department that understood my needs and budget and hooked me up better the second time around.

Went to Sound settings, moved input control to maximum - no luck. Started yelling right into the mic - saw slight movement on input indicators. Experimented with different cables, with iMac and iPad. All the same everywhere - input settings to the max, you need to yell so it can pick up at least something. Not usable for anything. I believe the unit is defective - trying to return it back, sitting in the chat and call center for 2 hours now. Wasted time and overnight delivery money. ... More

Maybe all good things are allready said, my little recommendation on this mic (and maybe every other high quality mic): Do not expect to improve your audio quality if you intend to use this mic with aplications like Teams, Zoom, Meet or others, those applications introduce a lot of compression and algoriths for noise canceling, resulting in the same or even worst audio output than the internal notebook mics. Also my experience on a Lenovo Windows 10 was very bad in terms of audio quality for the headphone output, a high pitch noise was present, destroying the second reason why I bought this mic (I was expecting a good quality output), again, this is maybe not a Mic problem but more on the very bad way that windows manage audio settings. ... I ordered this mic because of doing multiple Zoom sessions per day for business. Some people were complaining of a hissing sound coming from my computer mic. Although I work in entertainment, I don't do voiceover work. So sound quality is important, but an expensive studio sound set up is not required. One complaint I hear about other mics is that they are so sensitive that they pick up too much background noise, including every keystroke. The Rode, with its pop filter and desktop stand, sits right next to my laptop and has performed very well. There have been no complaints of hissing, background noise or keystroke sounds. This mic is perfect for my purposes. As a video deposition specialist, I needed a desktop microphone for this new era of using Zoom for remote depositions. The magnetic metal base keeps the mic stable and firm on the tabletop surfaces. I especially like that there is a headphone jack on the microphone so that I can do a sound check prior to the start of the deposition. Similarly, the ease of installation and that Zoom immediately recognized the microphone was another plus. The pickup pattern does lean more towards the front of the mic but does catch the sounds on each side of it. For my purposes, this was a good value so far after only 2 uses. Time will tell as different situations come around. ... More

I use this mic for voiceovers and I was impressed so much by Rode that I ended up going back and buying their wireless filmmaker lavaliere kit. The audio quality is great! But what I like even more is what they provided. I feel like this was designed by a user of the product rather than some marketing guy or engineer. First the Pop shield is included, it attaches quickly and securely to the mic and does what pop shields do. Next the 20' USB cable. It may seem like a simple thing but it eliminates the headache of buying the mic then realizing you need an extension. Finally it included a $90 studio headphones. Such a deal! I primarily use this microphone for doing voice-overs for videos. The microphone has a metal body and has good weight to it. I am very impressed with its construction and voice quality. It works straight out of the box. Its handy because you don't have to buy a preamp in addition to a mic. As a note, when you plug the microphone in, it diverts the audio output from the computer into the microphone monitoring port. Its gives professional results at a great price. Very happy with purchase. It should last me a long time.

I definitely bought a nicer microphone than I needed, but I like having nice things on my desk. This definitely makes a statement. When conducting language courses via video-teleconference, my professors have been able to hear my pronunciation much clearer - and they've definitely appreciated that. Build construction and quality is excellent, although the stand (as others have mentioned) could be more stable. The problem is the microphone is so solid and well-build that it becomes too top heavy for the light, plastic stand. If you bump it, it can tip over. This is a small inconvenience for me compared to the quality of the microphone itself. ... More
