As an adventurous film student I tried my luck with the Rode mini-boompole. The pole itself is pretty rugged yet lightweight even when extended fully, while the rubber grib feels good on the hands especially for longer use. Coming out of the box, it had no real directions, just a small piece of paper that showed examples of microphones that could be used with it. The locks that hold the boom together to keep it more compact are pretty poor in design. The pole itself will spin while you're trying to lock it, making it a pain to keep closed. You'll need to hold the pole in place while spinning the lock to keep it more permenantly locked. Although it has that one design flaw with bad instructions, to me it's still a great pole, especially for what you pay for it. ... More

Very solid material for this boom pole. Just the right length for me. Use it for field recordings, and documentary interviews. Anything longer than this, is mainly for stage work. Comes with custom carry bag, with shoulder strap. You can't ask for a more professional tool, and at a great price.

I use this pole with my vidpro shotgun mic and it works like a charm. Perfect for interviews without using lavaliere mics.

A great product everything I expected except the collapsed sized is much longer then I thought it would be. I thought when I read mini boom pole, that I was going to be able to throw it in a back pack without it poking out. The collapsed version is very lengthy. Overall great though, very light and durable.

I was looking for a budget boom, but still needed a professional-level performing product. Rode definitely met both of those needs in the Mini-Boompole. It's strong & light, haven't heard any noise over my shotgun from movement AT ALL, and it looks great!

Although it's called a mini boompole, it's plenty long enough for almost all situations. Well worth the investment.

The pole is light and easy to manage and extend. My only critique is that I cannot fit a standard XRL cable through the shaft. It seems there are conduits where you're supposed to do this, but the cable is too large. Yes, it is a pole and does the job but I might think about getting something more accommodating for cabling.
