This Polsen SCL-1080 Shotgun Mic is a pretty big upgrade over the built-in mics from my XT3. The first thing you notice when you open the box is all the extras that this mic comes with. It comes with a cold shoe mount, boom pole mount, windscreen, and a short coiled and long audio cable. This gives this mic a ton of versatility. You can mount it on top of the camera or have someone use it on a boom or mic stand or worst case scenario you can have someone hold the boom mic mount like in the pic. It takes a single double A battery and has two different pickup patterns for when you are up close or if you need to be farther away. I tested both modes vs the normal in-camera audio and it's a huge difference. I really like that the included cables have a screw lock system into the mic so there is no chance of them getting accidentally pulled out. It also feels pretty sturdy but is also super lightweight which is helpful when using it on a DSLR or mirrorless camera. Overall I'm impressed. ( I received this in exchange for my honest review) ... The Polsen SCL-1080 Shotgun Microphone is full of quality surprises! I used this on my Canon EOS R and was beyond surprised by how solidly it performed. For the price, it would be a challenge to find a better more well but shotgun mic kit. I mention "kit" because it comes with everything to mount it on your DSLR or a mic stand. The mic has a selectable polar pattern that's great for capturing the audio of your subject during an interview or the ambient, environmental sounds in any particular setting. The windscreen is solid, with a tight fit. I love the straight 3.5 mm capable wich is ideal if mounting on a mic stand. The coiled is great for hot shoe mounting on your DSLR. The quality is much better than my internal mic on my camera and it's now in heavy use as a great vlogging mic! Another well-built yet inexpensive product from Polsen! I received this product at no charge in exchange for my honest review. I just completed a video review of this mic on my YouTube channel, "TechMundane" if you want to search for it on YouTube and see this mic in action. First off, it ships in a reusable storage box that is a must since you get a lot of accessories with this microphone. You get two cables with a 1/8 to 1/4 inch adapter, two mounting clips and a foam windscreen. The mic also can be switched between two polar patterns, normal (cardioid) and tele (super-cardioid). I really liked with way this mic performs when using it as a voice over mic for videos. The off-axis rejection is awesome when using it in an untreated room. I mounted it on my Nikon D5600 DSLR and tested it from different distances. The mic did its job there too. Sound isolation was apparent when comparing this mic to onboard mic built into the DSLR. If you are needing a shotgun mic, this is an affordable option that gets the job done. ... More

Wasn't sure how it would work with my Canon SL3 DSLR, since it's a mono mic and the camera is looking for stereo. When I plugged the mic in directly to my camera and shot video, audio was only recorded by the camera on the left channel. So, I inserted a mono-to-stereo adapter (TS jack with a TRS plug) in between the mic and the camera, and then the audio from the mic was recorded on both the left and right channels. Problem solved. Love the long cable included with the mic, as well as the holders for a boom or a camera mount. Audio quality seems fine, at least for casual video recording. Great solution, just what I was looking for. ... More

So I've been using the Synco M3 Shotgun mic as my main audio source for a while now and saw this on B&H's Megadeal sale. This is a Mono Shotgun Microphone ( contacted B&H and the Company who makes Polsen Microphones to verify ) ... I've actually grown to like that it's Mono, it makes the Audio sound fuller when its fixed in post for dual channels. and this microphone sounds amazing when the audio is all prettied up!... it comes with a long 3.5mm cord and I use this pair to my Zoom H1N. I get amazing results. ... More

This microphone is a great option if you are on a budget. It provides clean audio for dialogue and foley. Some background humming can be heard, but you aren't likely to find a comparable microphone for the same price.
