The microphone works well to pick up your sound closer to the source, so it's a much better alternative than the built-in mic for podcasters and selfie-recording. The mic cable could stand to be a little longer, so you may want to consider a lightning extension cable if you purchase this unit. It has an LED that indicates you are connected, and when you are in an app that records. Note that the directions say that the LED lights when you are recording. This is not exactly true. If you're in Photos - Video for example, the LED is lit even when you are not recording. My gripe is with the headphone jack functionality. The jack does not work correctly with Apple headphones and presumably any set of 4-conductor 1/8 (3.5mm) headphones that have a built-in mic. You will get some sound, but it sounds like you're missing a channel - while sound comes out of both earphones, and the volume control will not function. The headphone jack will not allow you to monitor your recordings. Conclusion: If you want to get a mic closer to your source for better voice recordings, go for it. If monitoring your recording is important, look elsewhere. If you want to listen to audio through earphones without unplugging this unit, you will need to get a set of earphones that are not 4-conductor earphones, i.e. ones that do not have a mic. GREAT for Live Streaming

I currently have two other versions of this Lav. This is a unique addition to those. I will be using this on my iPhone since they did away with the headphone jack! Works great for memo recording and also live streaming. I will be using this for youtube uploads that require little to no editing so I can quickly plug in, record and upload with better audio. The cord is a good length and I am loving it so far. Whats also great is that this does not require a battery like my other wired units and there is a headphone jack if you need to monitor yourself! Defective

I wanted to like this. The cord length was perfect for my needs and the fact that it could be connected directly via Lightning without an adapter was a huge plus. However, after having it for less than a week, the unit started exhibiting a bad static. This wasn't some Airplane Mode interference. This was some sort of defect in the unit, no matter which app I used. In addition, I just didn't feel this was a particularly good mic as is. Granted, the cost reflect this (BH deal of the day) it would take some definite post processing even for simple journaling to make it clearer. Oh well. I'll stick with my Deity Lav, even with the obnoxiously long cord. Maybe you'll have better luck. ... More
Good for recording

The perfect scenario for this mic is when you're recording or doing a live transmission, best with rear, but also good with front camera, and you want isolate your voice from background noise. Not the case if you want to make a live audio/video call or FaceTime, since the mic will be DISABLED every time there's any incoming call, even if you have you're using simultaneously your wired earbuds or AirPods, this mic also will be disabled. I give it 4/5 because even when the box is advertised as "Ideal for interviews..." the length of the cable is not suitable when passing the mic from one to another while making the interview. So, for self recording or transmitting with front or rear camera, this mic is worth its price. ... More
Works great with an iPhone

We do a lot of voice memo-taking using iPhones, and the addition of this lav mic makes a huge difference in the quality of the recorded audio, as well as allowing the user to put the iPhone in a pocket to free-up two hands. It would have been useful to be able to monitor the audio via the headphone jack when recording, but that is a limitation of the iPhone connector. Our one complaint is that the cord length is too short, limiting how far the iPhone can be from the person being recorded. We were able to remedy this by using a 3' lightning extension cord (~$9.00 on line). Otherwise, no complaints; we're very happy with the lav. ... More

I have used this type of microphone for more than 60 years, yes 60 years, including interviewing Casey Stengel, astronauts and persons on the street. I really am impressed With the quality. The only issues, I wish the lead was two feet longer.
Mediocre product not worth list price

Works with some apps like Voice Memos but not with FaceTime. I didn't find the mic was any better than Apple's $30 earbuds. Signal is pretty noisy--fine for chatting if your app is supported. $70 is too much for this.
