I have been using Olympus ME-15 microphones very successfully but I wanted to try the Polson OLM-10. I tested each mic against the other. The Polson has a slightly better sound quality but only slightly. These are the pros and cons of each of the two mics: Olympus ME-15 vs Polson OLM-10 Sound Quality: Winner Polson OLM-10 If the Polson is 90%, the Olympus is 85%. They are very close and both sound good but the Polson has a slightly greater clarity. Cord Length: It depends Which one is better depends on your use. If you use it to put a recorder in your pocket and use the lav mic just on you, then the Olympus is better because the cord is long enough to go from your lapel to pocket (3 feet) but not so long that you have extra cord to deal with. If you want to plug the mic into a camcorder and be up to 20 feet away then the 20 foot cord of the Polson is better. Battery: Winner Olympus The Olympus does not have a battery or an ON/OFF switch. This means that you do not have to worry about remembering to turn it off, leaving it on and finding out your battery is dead, or buying and replacing the battery. The Polson will not work with a dead battery. Clip: Winner Polson The Olympus has a shiny aluminum clip which looks terrible on video. The Polson has a black clip that matches the mic so it blends in. I've had to buy another and replace the clip with Olympus mics. Price: Tie - They both are basically identical pricing. Conclusion: If you want the best possible sound at this price and the most versatility, get the Polson OLM-10. If you want to always be sure your mic will work regardless of whether or not you remembered to turn it off or change the battery and if you use it with a recorder that is within 3 feet and you don't mind buying a black clip, get the Olympus ME-15. ... I'm using this microphone as the sound gathering point in a home-built parabolic microphone (couldn't afford the professional model Telinga). Using the tie clip affixed to a short piece of wire, I've centered the little mike to the focal point of an 18 inch diameter mixing bowl, and I've found that the ME-15 has worked wonders at picking up bird calls, which I then record on to an Olympus LS-10 field recorder. The sound quality is, perhaps, a little on the hollow side, but that may be the fault of the mixing bowl, which is not a true parabola.

First and foremost, for the price this mic is great. The specs don't speak to the mic to be for professional use; its dynamic range is for 'average' voice pickup. It's a TS 1/8 input patch cable about 1 meter in length. The clip is chromed instead of a preferable black. These things notwithstanding, I've been using it mainly to give a greater flexibility when I'm using a hand-held voice recorder around the office or outdoors. It's already paid for itself and I've had it only for a few weeks. If you have a pocketable, consumer-type device and want to give yourself some distance or remove having to hold the device in your hand, this mic will do the trick. You can clip to your lapel and the cable length will easily let you pocket your device in your front or back pocket (or purse or backpack). Olympus makes a ton of handheld voice recorders so I assume they designed this mic to provide a solution for their line of product. I have a Sony sx700 and it works with no problems at all. ... More

This is a decent microphone and works well with Plug-In Power and does not need it's own battery. It works well with the TASCAM recorders such as the DR-08. This microphone has good low end without getting boomy. It is not as bright (lower highs) as it should be but still produces decent vocal recordings. I would give it more stars if it had a better frequency response. The right angle, mono, 1/8 plug is sturdy and good for personal recorders. The tie clip is chrome and looks terrible. I do not recommend using it with video because it reflects lights, causing flashes. Find another mount. It handles wind well and has relatively low handling noise (for mic and cable) compared to other lapel microphones. This is very useable microphone, although not quite good enough for a professional recording. It is adequate for lectures and web streaming audio. ... More

I am a wedding cinematographer who just started last year,so I was on a tight budget. I read a million lav mic reviews and I read mixed reviews for this mic. In the end though it was super cheap and there were some good reviews so I finally bought it. I was disappointed. The amount of background noise was unacceptable for professional or even semi-professional use. I had to do a lot of tweaking in post and I still wasn't happy with the end result (although to be fair, my specialty is with video not audio). Anyway, I understand how it could be acceptable for student filmmakers just starting out but I would suggest spending a little more, especially if you are really trying to make it in the field. ... I use it with the go pro camera for conversation purposes. I like the compact size, that's what I was looking for with the go pro, easy to work with. The sound quality is very good and clear. It is not very loud because it's mono, but it's easily fixable by turning the volume up, or in my editing software, just copy the sound and paste it into an other track, and pull one track to the left, pull the other track to the right turns it into stereo sound, and gets louder to the normal stereo sound level, only takes a few seconds to do. It work the best for a closer distances, but that's just fine because I don't want the background noise anyway... Overall I like it, I'm very happy with it, just what I was looking for. ... More

Although I had heard great things about the Audio-Technica ATR-35S Lavalier Microphone working well with the zoom h1, the output level was way too low. With the ME-15, it works great. I plug the ME-15 into the zoom, hide the zoom inside the talents pocket, and sync to my footage in post. Great audio quality.

Before ordering this product I was concerned about it plugging into my Sony digital voice recorder. But was reassured by the tech support man that it would be fine...and it was. The product was at my door within a few days and the quality of sound is great! I recommend.

I bought this microphone for my new GoPro Hero2 camera. It was unclear to me how this would work for my use because GoPro recommended a powered microphone, which this is not. I'm using it in my aviation headset to capture the radio/intercom audio. It worked really well for this. I'm not sure how it would work at a concert or the like, where you are trying to capture a broad range of frequencies.

I use it with my Williams Pocket talker and it works nicely with that. A nice, obscure mic. I agree that it would be better if the tie clip were black. Where I go with a Williams sound transmitter and wireless listening devices, I do not use this mic becasue it picks up all the noise of the open space, but, otherwise, it is a great portable mic.

I use this to mic grooms in wedding videos. Works well, clip is a little on the cheap side. Be careful with it so it doesn't break.

I used this for a trade show in order to be heard over the crowd noise. This high-quality microphone is perfectly suited for those wanting to be heard clearly.

I think this thing is awesome. It allows me to record with my hands free so I don't need to walk around and act like I'm hiding something in my hand. The only thing better would be a wireless mic.
