If you're looking for a reasonably priced, high quality kick drum mic, this is it. Haven't used it in the studio, but for live performance situations this mic is every bit as good (if not better than) the "BIG NAME" mics. Great gain, tone, feedback rejection...everything you need in a live mic.

I gigged with this mic for a couple of years. Was ok on its own, but I added an Earthworks Kickpad, which is an in-line limiter and static EQ. Could get real decent sound, but it was even better once I mounted it internally on a Kelly Shu. Recently upgraded to an Audix D6 and the is no comparison. The D6 provides a far better sound overall, which should be expected given the difference in pricing. I am using the NADY on my floor tom now.

I need to state up front that this is replacing an old Shure 545 mic, so I expected it to be a significant improvement. It didn't disappoint. The Nady DM-90 has a nice fat sound along with a punchy attack when I added a bit of mid (+4db @ 2.5kHz) and low (+4db @ 80Hz) eq. The 24" kick drum has a resonant head with a 6" cutout in the center and only light muffling on the bottom of the impact head. I positioned the mic directly in the center of the cutout. This picks up both the resonance and the impact really well. Great mic for under $50. ... More

I needed a kick drum mic for part of my recording setup for drums. Originally I was going to buy the Audix D6, but then I came across this bad boy. As low priced as it was, I was really impressed with the bass punch this thing is capable of capturing, and it's rugged build quality. While I really like the Audix D6, this one has a better cost/quality ratio, and I am happy with it.

Great performance for the price. Hit-and-miss on kick drum but I've had amazing success on bass cabs.
