I picked this up as a deal of the day ~ having many mics costing considerably more ~ I have to say that this combo is a great value ~ being both very versatile on a variety of instruments all while costing less than $70.00!!!

These Mics. are great and are super powerful. They can detect the slightest noise and have great sound for recording. They pickup great noise, especially the small pencil mic. is great and super handy for instruments.

Best deal out there. Both mics are amazing and at such a great price. I tend to use the 991 for guitar and other instruments, then I use the 990 for vocals. I really suggest going to buy this!

These mics are really sweet. They reproduce your sound beautifully and are very sensitive. We use them in live setting for worship singers and overhead for congregation pick up on our DVD feed.

Two fantastic microphones, hard to find much better bang for your buck. The 990 provides a nice smooth vocal sound, and the 991 is sharp and has tons of depth.

I obtained the MXL 990/MXL 991 Recording Microphone Package as a bonus gift at Guitar Center for buying another mic. For the money, they are good just to have in the mic closet in case you are recording 19 tracks at once, but I don't see any critical recording uses for them if you have another mic available. It is strange that these are paired together--I could see a pair of the 991s as a good entry-level pair for stereo applications, but I admit I'm a bit confused with this package. Given this, I must qualify my bias by saying I have no complaints given the price, and who knows, mine may see the light of the studio someday. ... More

I don't understand how everyone posts 5 star reviews for this microphone. I understand this microphone has been reviewed and almost everyone who tried it has said it makes vocals or instruments sound "low" or "bassy" and that it picks up "very little background noise." All of these are false. From the second I took the microphone out of the box it has been nothing but garbage. Everything sounds like it is recorded off a webcam microphone. Very electronic sounding, very deep, extremely low and bassy, insane amounts of background noise are picked up (even when the mic is completely isolated from all other sound sources.) I used the mx 990 and the 991 both with the M-Audio Buddy pre-amp and have connected it to various different computers and speakers. This microphone is horrible, even for what a great price this is I would not consider this a "good buy." ... More
