Man, I'm a Voice Over Talent and my other mic sucked so bad. Crackly and everything. This is perfect! Sounds so nice. It's perfect. Then, my friend, who plays guitar, was looking for a studio to record his music at a low price. Of course, I said come to my place. We were skeptical, such low price, but man it's the perfect sound! Great for Instruments, Sound Effect Producing, VO's and more! LOVE IT

I bought this set a couple of weeks ago. On testing it I was very happy with the results. First, the adaptor on the M990 fit an old stand I had downstairs that required the smaller threaded mic head. So that was a good start. Next, the sound quality of both of these are fantastic. I also like the fact they come in the padded case. I use a PreSonus Firestudio Project and have been recording all of the elect/acoustic guitars inline. The M991 will give me the opportunity to double record a guitar inline and also thru the mic and get some softer more acoustic sounds. Someone on here wrote this was a great buy for the price they asked, and I have to say that I agree with them. ... More

I haven't used these extensively yet, but I've recorded some guitar through the 990 and some drum machine sounds run through a guitar amp with the 991. I'd say the 990 provides a nice, fairly neutral sound. I'm not super educated but I would describe it as kind of flat, not the highest output, which means it would theoretically pair well with other gear but might not be the star of the show. I messed around with a Golden Age Project FC1 a couple weeks before buying these, and I would say that gave a more characterful sound on the electric guitar I recorded (a Gretsch g5622 with stock Super Hilotron pickups) than the 990. The 991 sounded excellent on the amplified drum machine sounds I recorded. ... More

My band uses this pair to record practices in stereo and it sounds great. All you need is good mic placement, amp levels, and some blankets to kill the power of the drums and you are rocking and rolling with a good recording that can be posted on your web site or emailed around. Sometimes we then build off of the scratch tracks in Cubase and record overdub tracks.

These are my first two condenser mics. I've heard the mxl 990 to be the "industry standard" for a starter condenser mic. Figuring that two good mics are better than one, I asked for this kit on my wish list. when I got it hooked up to my audio interface and monitored each mic, I was astounded at the clarity and low-static representation of what I said into the mic. I've used some more expensive microphones, but these ones are at least 99% as good as any, and for a fraction of the cost. I was also relieved at the fact that it came with a case for protection, as I had no other place to store the microphones. I would defenitely reccomend this package to anyone who is new to the recording game. ... More

I bought this package as a X-Mas present, actually 2 of them. Tested them on my drum kit and was very pleased with them. 990's you don't even have to crank them, they are so senstive that I have my Trim pots set at 0. They capture the entire drum kit nicely as I only mic my kit using 4 mics. The 991's are just as good but they get a nice tighter sound. I compared them to my Nady CM-88's and they are close to them, except the 991's you don't have to crank them either. For my overheads I have a nice selection to choose from and I'm very pleased with these products especially since you don't have to break the bank to own them!! Great stuff!!! ... More

This equipment was for my nephew who will be graduating and entering The Art Institute as a music producer. He has already created and recorded his own music at home and it sounds great. This equipment has enspired him to truly further his talents with the many different instruments that he can play. I was more than honored to get him the microphone.

Wow! For the money you can't beat these mics! I started using these in the studio, mostly the 990, but I was so impressed with the audio quality and I started using 991s on all of my video cameras (They fit perfect on the Panasonic DVC30's XLR adapter mic mount). I actually like the 990's better that my EV RE20's!

I may get another pair but they are not 79.99 anymore! too bad. beware that 990 is a brick, my stand falls over .

Low price, realistic sound, great for any level of recording. They both have smooth/soft highs, and represent the natural acoustic sounds of vocals, and all acoustic instruments.I run them both through tube mic pre-amps,and the sound is perfect. If you are a good producer, these mics can sound like any high-end neuman or others in comparison.

Awesome little condenser microphone starter kit. I've been using these mics for the past 4 years and they always get the job done. A bit of EQ to add some air will probably be needed (when used as a vocal /acoustic guitar mic. A great value and quality deal for someone who is looking to record some demos and play with audio recording.
