We have started putting together videos of very limited (10 or less) church services to post online during social distancing concerns. They are pretty basic and the video capacity of an iPhone is sufficient to capture what we need. Sound, however, was another matter. We wanted to be able to capture a leader speaking or singing, instruments (piano & cello for example), and voices of congregation (3 couples seated apart. The iPhone microphone at the video camera location just didn't work for our needs. The leader voice was faint (too far away), the instruments were too loud, the congregation was way too far away and very faint. This interface has allowed us to use an omni-directional microphone placed out in the congregation area close enough to the congregation to pick up their voices while it is far enough away from the instruments to reduce their volume. We are using the normal PA system and microphone to amplify the leader and adjust that level to balance with the instruments and voices. So we can put the iPhone in the best location for video capture and the microphone in the best location for audio. Long-term we are looking into getting a directional shotgun mic to use with an iPhone for recording speakers or singers without needing to use lapel mics or other microphones visible in the shot. I would have given 5 stars but we did have one issue with it working fine with one iPhone (2nd gen SE) but not another (iPhone 8). It should work with an iPhone 8, and it is likely just a problem with a setting in the iPhone 8, but there isn't a straight forward way to troubleshoot the issue and so far we haven't been able to figure out what the issue is. ... Most noteworthy is that this device allows me to connect my studio microphones directly into the iPhone X. (I'm talking about my Schoeps, Neumann, and Sennheiser 48 volt, XLR, recording mics.) It displaces the less than satisfying mic built into the iPhone, and allows fine audio to be used for all apps requiring a microphone. There is plenty of headroom, and it's quiet. There is also a monitoring circuit for headphones. Input XLR, output Lightning direct to iPhone.

This unit works well to connect a Pro Sennheiser microphone to your computer. It does use non US standard output plugs which was a surpirse. It includes an output cord to a Lightning plug. However, we cannot get this unit to work with the Comrex Opal which need to be corrected. Technical support from IK Multimedia is seriously lacking. For the above reasons, I would suggest the Polsen XLR to USB to connect to a pro mike to a computer and the iRig Pre for use with a cell phone. ACN Radio Network ... More

We had to come up with something quick for streaming our church services online. The video was okay coming from the iphone, but the audio had background noise and echo. We connected the IRig Pre HD to the lightning port on the iphone and drove the iRig Pre HD with mic level output of a Shure wireless mic receiver. The results were great, after some gain adjustments, the audio came over crystal clear.

This product works fine, it has a good quality as an interface. It just activate when you plug to the phone or the computer. It is ok for VoiceOver when I am traveling.
