When on the go, this can save time & trouble. The bitrate, as expected, is only high enough to record normal non-studio quality. However, the iRig Pre 2 features phantom power, and when used with a condenser mic and correct placement, it can perform well for warm acoustic instrumentation recording. I have tried this to record acoustic drums, but cannot recommend this. Thanks for reading.

So far I really like this for XLR input into a iPhone or iPad - clean sound. Not crazy about how you set the gain via a phone app, but a minor complaint.

I have the first version of this which uses a 9v battery. This is easier on the field. AA batteries can be bought almost everywhere. Or almost everyone, photographers mostly, have an AA on their bags.
