I've been playing around with the iRig HD2 for a few days and absolutely love this device! It's the one piece I needed to connect my guitars with apps like Ultimate Guitar, Tonebridge, and GarageBand. About My Setup • Fender Squire Strat Electric • Ibanez ALT30 Acoustic (with pickup) • 2017 iPad with Current iOS • 2019 Macbook Pro with Big Sur • GarageBand App on Both • Ultimate Guitar Subscription with ToneBridge App • 2 GLS Audio Guitar Cables • Cheap Squire Practice Amp • Noise-Canceling Headphones (Plug-In) I'm not a pro by any stretch. Just a guy trying to get better so I can jam with my friends. I play a combination of blues-rock, acoustic folk, and modern worship music. The iRig HD2 connects your guitar to the computer or device so you can take advantage of all the digital pedals available via ToneBridge and GarageBand. This combination eliminates the need for a pedal rack setup with virtually unlimited sound styles to choose from, or you can create your own. Personally, I prefer playing with Ultimate Guitar/ToneBridge through my iPad. I don't do a lot of recording, although I tested and it works great in GarageBand. You can use it with ToneBridge by itself for jamming or play UG's tabs with full backup tracks. I didn't bother with the IK Multimedia app, but I did test it on Android's UG/TB app and it worked great. You can play through headphones or through an amp to be as loud or quiet as you need. Just make sure the headphones are plugged into the iRig. Bluetooth has about a half-second lag through the laptop and doesn't work at all through the iPad. The sound is amazing! As I said, I've just got a cheap practice amp that came with the inexpensive guitar. With a few clicks, I can sound like Deep Purple or James Taylor. The experience is infinitely more satisfying than just trying to muddle through tabs while listening to songs on YouTube. Everything comes right back through the iRig to the amp, so it feels like you're playing with the whole band. Bonus fact: Your device powers the iRig, so you don't have to mess with batteries or chargers. Just plug it in and go. I am totally satisfied with the iRig HD2. It's a tiny little device that gives me a professional studio feel so I can improve my skills and play with confidence. ... More

I'll start by saying I'm a semi-professional musician and I would not typically rely on a device like this during an actual performance. Considering that, I was asked to purchase the iRig as a way to connect my electronic drums to an iPad for a project that needed to be done remotely. While doing so, I found the iRig HD 2 to be simple to use and it delivered exactly the way indicated by the manufacture. I used it for less than one week and was able to complete three of four songs needed for a project. Things were going well. On the fourth song the indicator lights stopped working and the iRig no longer connected to my iPad or iPhone. I sent an e-mail to the tech support team at IK Multimedia and they responded back a few days later via e-mail to help me try to troubleshoot the issue. It was determined that I have a faulty cable and they agreed to replace it. In summary I would note the iRig as good product: THE GOOD: The iRig HD 2 came with good packaging and all cables needed, an attachment clip/strap, bundled software to download, and a quick setup guide. It was simple to use and it worked well, when it worked. THE BAD: The cable attachments appear to be a bit fragile and my cable stopped working. The IK Multimedia, iRig website is geared more toward sales and not tech support. The tech support folks can only be contacted via e-mail, and their response to me was very slow (two days). ... More

I had the original irig lying in a drawer and pulled it it as I was doing some traveling. With my new iPad Pro and garage band it sounded horrible. The headphone jack input just had no real decent sound. I decided to see what was new and ordered this. Has a superior sound quality in every way. The pass through to an amp is a much needed live improvement. There is another model that has a hot mic input but didn’t honk I’d be doing any serious vocals so I passed on it. Suffice to say it’s well worth the price of another overdive pedal I don’t need or other digital gadget that sparkles in my face. Oh and the gain wheel plus a volume is super and was needed for any serious recording. ... More

There isn't a way to control track volume when a song is played in Apple Music while the HD2 is connected. In my case, the track volume is always too loud compared to the guitar's output so playing along with songs is impossible. For reference, I have a Dimarzio PAF 36th Anny neck and a Dimarzio Super Distortion bridge. Neither of these are particularly low output pickups yet they're still not loud enough to keep up with a track being played through apple music. I've emailed IK about this and received a reply that was basically, "Apple won't let us do that. Not our problem." ... More

I first bought the original iRig when I was in my teens. Downloaded Amplitube on my iPhone, plugged it in and... nothing but static. No matter what I or my dad – who knows electronics – tried, that iRig was just not working. After returning it, I forgot about iRigs until I came across the HD 2 here. Seeing it worked with both iOS and computers, I figured I'd give it a whirl; boy am I glad I did. Plug and play with no other issues. No latency and roughly similar sound quality as my Focusrite Scarlett Solo. Now I can jam out to Amplitube where ever I am; much reccomended . ... More

After an extensive search for something to connect my apollo/laptop audio to my iPhone for livestreaming, this is the first product I found that wasn't backordered and works! Sounds really good, super simple. It comes with an iRig to lightning cable and an iRig to USB cable. All I had to do was plug the lightning cable into my phone and an instrument cable running from the iRig to the headphone jack of the Apollo OR a stereo to mono cable from the monitor output on the back of the Apollo and bam! Audio to my videos!

The product itself is fantastic and fantastically simple and reliable. Two stars off for the cable connection they use (micro-usb): it's just flimsy and uncharacteristically cheesey. Really? of all the bomb-proof type of connections they choose something that awful? Unfortunate.

I am novice guitarist who has only guitars and an amp but does not have any pedals. I want to try some effect pedals but don't want to make so many errors to find the right ones. I know some good multi-effects pedals but they also cost me at least around $150. This product is just right one for me! This item allows me to explore all the different effects available in Amplitube. I highly recommend this one for those who start to play the electric guitars with a limited budget. So great!!

I was really excited about this. I don't know if an iOS update there it off or what, but I cannot receive any input from the guitar on any app other than amplify. I bought this for Yousician and GarageBand. No input coming from either app. I tried everything and seem to be one of many with the same problem.

Personally, I love this thing. It plugs into the lightning port on my iPhone, I open Garageband, select an amp, turn on monitoring, hit record, and it does it's thing. Very fast, very easy, and I think it sounds awesome!

I bought this a year ago. I have used several other interfaces and so far this is the one I use most. It works very well and when combined with AmpliTube it is an awesome combination for practice. I use both iPad and Mac with this and like a how simple it is to setup and record with.

Great tool to have when traveling. Needs a decent processing machine for multiple effects. I wouldn't personally use it for live sounds but definitely could be done.

Excellent value and a must for traveling musicians. Only down side, some settings tend to be a bit noisy and certain cable positions can generate hum/noise, both issues can be tuned out/corrected. But overall, for the price, no real complaints. Excellent tool.

Upgrading from iRig HD since my new phone no longer has a 3.5mm headphone jack. The HD 2 works just as it should, and will hopefully keep up with any new upgrades from Apple.
