So I've been recording since I was a 15 and I'm in my 30s now. From my home studio over the last 5 years I've been lucky enough to hear my own dumb recordings played over the radio many times (FM, Internet Stations, Sirius XM.) The genre is very heavy guitar oriented alternative / shoegaze music. Everything I've ever recorded was done on a 2010 1st Gen Scarlett 2i2. I didn't even have a preamp. Only an old Tascam Mic and DI guitars plugged straight into the 2i2. The rest was Amplitube and other plugins. The reason I'm telling you this is because the interface does not matter. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT INTERFACE YOU USE. SO SAVE YOUR MONEY. This year however, I got interested in reamping (which the 2i2 cannot do without unplugging my monitors.) I now had a reason to purchase a new interface after almost 10 years and this is what I got. The IK Axe. For anyone out there caught between the 2 worlds of guitar plugins and guitar pedals, this thing is really all you need. It gives you both right on the front of the interface and sounds amazing. Set it up in 10 minutes. I do recommend setting up a template in your DAW to make life easier when reamping with this. But it couldn't be easier. My guitar pedals and amps are now just an extension of my plugin library. I really love this thing and like I said, DO NOT BUY EXPENSIVE INTERFACES. Just get what you absolutely need and anyone selling you on "sound quality" has no idea what they're talking about and probably hasn't made a single thing worth listening to anyways. I just wish it came with the Amplitube Max bundle because I already have the deluxe. ... More

I come from a world of pro recording studios working with nothing but the best gear. I bought this unit to write songs in my home studio. Not looking to release songs, but just to have fun. I have to say, this unit holds up to all of my pro gear. So much so that I have put my high-end DI's away. There is simply no need for them. The JFET DI and Z-Tone are amazing tools that you would have to pay 3 times the price to get in another product. The only drawback of this unit is that even though it has 5 outs (one dedicated reamping DI) only 2 of them are line outs. I have no idea why they would put 2 unbalanced outputs on the unit. Seems kind of pointless, but it's not a deal breaker especially for the money. I am not a huge fan of the version of Amplitude that comes with it but I have so many Amp Sims that it does not matter that much. ... More

i got the axe io in august and I have owned a number of di's and daw, still use the "ur22c steinberg" with the axe io and when i got the axe io , it came with amp4 deluxe ver. and i spent a number of weeks fighting with the driver that came with the it and Experimenting with the software. i bought the mesa boogy pack and still had trouble with it, mostly my fault going in loops which usely happens when you don't read the instructions and finally got the max upgrade for 50% off (which it now comes with) and then it opened for me and have to say there are literally a ton of great gtr sounds from hard rock to mello you can find any kind of sound you could possibly want. the problem with a lot of software is they sound great untill you go to recording the heavy rock tones and then there is a fight trying to get it right...well I would highly recommend the Axe IO it is really all you need when it comes to recording great guitar and bass !! ... I purchased one of these new. Pros: (*) amplitube sounds really good (indistinguishable from an amp on a recording (*) re-amp is a killer feature (that capability alone is worth a few hundred dollars -- without this you're buying a re-amp box and a DI box). It's worth noting that the signal coming out of re-amp out is not as strong as that from high output pickups, so you will need to either use more gain on the amp or boost. But with this feature you can always record DI (and get an amp-in-the-room with re-amp out or the included amplitube). Then re-amp with a real amp or software. (*) the microphone inputs have enough gain for me to record quiet singing with a dynamic mic (*) the mic iautomatically yields to the instrument when the mic input 1 and instrument input 1 are both plugged in so I can just leave the mics plugged in Cons: used, software is a bit tricky. The unit needs control panel software to fully function which requires registration. so this needs to be transferred (if original owner used the unit at all they must have registered it). New owner needs a software serial number to download drivers. Original owner keeps amplitube (that doesn't get transferred). ... More

This product absolutely made my guitarist and I both sell our $1500+ pedalboards after playing with Axe I/O and Amplitube and setting up standalone rigs for ourselves. The only close competitor I can think of is Focusrite, but their interfaces kind of either work or don't work with your favorite guitar with no Z knob to mess with. When people figure this out, they're going to ditch their pedal boards. The only feature I could like to see from IK multimedia in the future is greater Axe I/O "Amp Out" functionality integrated into Amplitube 4. For instance, it would be nice to send a full guitar chain to the main PA, but it would be nice to send a Amplitube Pedalboard only mix to the Amp out before going through the amp and cabinet simulator in Amplitube 4.

I am a drummer, but I thought I would buy the AXE I/O interface as a way for guitar and bass players to be able to connect to my audio console and DAW without having to drag along a bunch of gear. I and those who have used it have been incredibly pleased with it. The AmpliTube amp and gear modeling sounds incredibly accurate and the guitars behave just as they would as if they were connected to real-world gear. The added benefit of having the re-amping function makes for even bigger sounds when simultaneously sending the DI signal to actual amps and cabinets to send to your console for a live performance or to your DAW to record. I highly recommend the AXE I/O. ... More

We use alot of Ik stuff for our site channel and company intehdaw.com an youtube.com/inthedaw the add placement XD due to the fact that these are affordable and we get so much bang for the buck. I really like this interface for the tone control you get or the Z control and the fact that you get midi in and out and can use footswitches. if you need something thats a mid level 2 channel interface and have very little in the terms of experience and software this thing is a BEAST. we use lost of expensive analog gear at my studio and i do like having this as a on the go rig for guitar. it also seems to come with amplitube 5 and that was a huge surprise as I like it quite a bit. maybe almost as much as my axe fx 3 ... I use my Axe I/O with headphones so I don't bother everyone in the house, but I get more tone options than I could ever buy physically and I can play along with training videos or lookup tabs on UltimateGuitar without using the tiny screen on my phone. This is the best solution ever!

This product is OK. Just OK. For the $$ it should have been much better. After 4 months of use, I had random cutting out during use problems... very disappointing. And the forum and support at IK is woefully lacking (tech support guy asked me to check if the cable was plugged in - so yeah, THAT's the IK support). I feel like I'm stuck and will have to make another purchase to get a dependable unit. I'm probably headed towards the Universal Audio line which is where I should have gone first.

I'm really liking the AXE I/O. It sounds really great. The Z-tone feature is a game changer for my setup. However It needs a couple of things for my workflow. It needs ADAT in and out so it could slave to the interface I already have and it would be nice if it was rack mountable.

One word AWESOME! Coming from the Line 6 Guitarport, followed by the UX2, and lastly the POD HD Pro X, I can honestly tell a fidelity difference for the better. Overall, latency and recording quality is MUCH better. When purchasing the AXE I/O you are receiving a lot for little monies.
