I've been running an old M-Audio AudioBuddy mic preamp into an M-Audio Delta 1010LT PCI interface for about a decade, with a Rode NT2 mic. I record hip-hop vocals, and I also produce beats. The Delta 1010LT works well for making beats, but the AudioBuddy was seriously lacking in quality/clarity for vocals. I was looking to take a significant step forward, finally. I stopped by a local Guitar Center, and I browsed the various interfaces available. I had been researching online for about a week. Unfortunately, GC doesn't carry Audient products, as I had been eyeballing the Audient iD22. The sales rep said the most popular interface in their store is the UA Arrow, but they were out of stock, and he said the next best thing (at least in popularity) is the Clarett 2Pre. We chatted for a while about it, and I spent some time looking into it online. I eventually made the purchase. I haven't utilized it to record a complete song at this point, but I have tested it out for the sake of ensuring that it's not defective in any way. I'm quite amazed at the clarity, the low noise even when the gain is cranked up, and the virtually nonexistent latency when tracking vocals! The software (Focusrite Control) that comes with it seems simple and straightforward, but I haven't done much with it beyond installing it. The vocals really stand out, and the interface seems to perform very well. I do believe the interface / software is set up out of the box for the "direct" monitoring capability. Also, I'm currently running a mid-2012 MacBook Pro (4GB RAM and an i5 CPU), recording in Reaper. Installation was a breeze on the Mac. Registration with Focusrite was extremely simple. I also downloaded a couple of plugins from Focusrite, using the bundle code that came with the interface - the EQ and compressor plugins are pretty nice. I would definitely recommend this interface to anyone on a modest budget, who is also looking for quality recording without spending a large amount of money! ... More

I just love it. The Red Plugin Suite along with that Focusrite classic sound makes my vocals sound as good as they've ever sounded. Thank you for recommendation Gina at Guitar Center Pasadena. Don't hesitate to buy one of these if you're looking for an amazing interface for an affordable price. Love it!!!!

This is a great interface. However, if you expect to use all four outputs simultaneously, and headphones for checking the mix, look elsewhere. You cannot separate outputs 3-4 from the headphone output in the software; they are linked together. It seems to me that something like this is fixable with a software update, so maybe they would fix this in the future. But I have previously owned the Thunderbolt Clarett for two years and I believe it had also functioned this way, so I don't think they have plans for it any time soon, if ever. They make the software very simple, a pro and a con, so I didn't spend very much time before learning that my third and fourth studio monitors are rendered useless. ... More

really excellent monitoring quality compared to cheaper interfaces. The built in headphone amp can put out some serious levels without any distortion. I have not run the preamps and the 'Air' mode through anything challenging enough to comment on character, but they seem to have plenty of gain and no apparent noise. I would have preferred a hardware toggle for the input modes, but that isn't a dealbreaker for my use case. works on macos with no additional drivers. The focusrite control app is lightweight and simple to use.

The Clarett 2Pre USB is worth the extra money over the Scarlett. In my career as a professional musician, recording artist, engineer, and producer, I've never regretted spending a bit extra for better quality, and often regretted buying something when I knew I could have gotten something better at the time. The famous Focusrite sound, easy to set up and use, and with the right connection, no need for a power plug. Don't hesitate to purchase this unit.

I bought this interface as an upgrade from my ART Tube MP. The sound from the Clarett is quieter and much warmer. So much so that I could immediately hear the difference. Set up was easy, software that accompanied the unit helped me to customize the knobs. My only regret is that I wish I had purchased a unit with more Pre's - very happy with my purchase.

Coming from a Focusrite 6i6 Gen2 I expected somewhat better sound with this interface, and I was not disappointed. Not a night-and-day-difference, but subtle clarity. Not sure why, but I had to dial in a little more gain to reach the same output level as the 6i6, but there is still lots of headroom. The headphone amp sounds great.

I needed a audio interface buddy for my Eventide H9000, and had to upgrade from my basic Scarlett. This hit the spot! The converters are sweet as heaven and the software is sharp with low latency. The mic pre's are plush as well! I wish I would have gone for a Clarett with more IO's but I love this one so much I'm not bringing it back. Super recommended!!

I'll be honest - I don't know a damn thing about studio music production. What I am here for is quality audio playback, and tht's something that the Clarett provides in spades, and finally in a form factor accessible to more people at a reasonable price point! Drives 250ohm headphones with ease, as well. An excellent, gorgeous sounding neutral interface.

Great sound and easy to use. Routing setup was a little clunky being only software based, but once I figured out the Focusrite Control app it was pretty straightforward. Gets a little hot with prolonged use but haven't noticed any problems so far.
